Kensei isnt failure to fist, it is to learn that all things are fist: Whip is fist on a rope, bow is a fist missile, and the innumerable handaxe you buy are to make a rain of fisting the essential part of your long distance relationship with the enemy.

@@aduffyguy Another good kensei monk combo I've found is to combine the kensei monk with a paladin. The end result? A D&D version of a Jedi Knight. With this combo, I don't need a weapon to channel a smite, I can just SMITE things with my fists.

Best moment I ever had while playing a monk was catching a cannon ball being fired at me, throwing it back and managing to kill the guard that launched it in the first place. Monks can be really fun. (I also accidentally killed one of my party members attempting a similar situation but it backfired spectacularly. Flaming arrow and friend holding a barrel of gun powder is not a good mix.)

Kensei with the Acolyte background and the Magic Initiate feat for a few Cleric spells is an excellent way to play a “paladin” imo. Flavor it as a warrior-monk who is part of a militant religious order, a la Knights Templar. A paladin by profession, but not by class. Only downside is no badass armored knight look, and sword-and-board is a no-go. But imagine the character dressed in humble traveling clothes, a tabard with a holy symbol sewn into it, and a hooded cloak approaching their foes with a wickedly sharp longsword held high and a longbow on their back. Flavor the lack of armor as a demonstration of faith and/or a vow of poverty.

I was really intimidated by all the things in D&D so I never got into it until I started seeing your vidoes. Now I made a whole group of new friends and it's the most hilarious and unique experience I've ever had.

Table Top RPGs can seem intimidating with all sorts of complex rules, but thankfully 5e D&D is simplistic compared to other rule sets. Been playing for little over a year now and have a lot of stories (most ending with my character’s grisly death) but thankfully Pelor has blessed me and I haven’t run into too much trouble lately, I just keep getting knocked unconscious for 2/3 of the fights I’m in.

Good on ya for joining us! I am somewhat new myself and it's good that you chose to join on 5e because it's the simplest, stream-lined, noob-friendly version of the game. I started on 5e as well, but the first group I found only plays Pathfinder, which is like 3.5e but modified. Also it's waaaaay more complicated, for example the PHB is about 4x larger than the PHB for 5e. Though I enjoy it more, makes for more customization, but it's missing a lot of things I like the 5e has.

Saul Reid same thing with me, I play a duel wielding Ranger and at first I was feeling pretty confident b/c I had the highest AC in the party (16 due to leather armor, +4 DEX, and Dual wielder feat, which can be bumped up to 18 in melee due to the defensive duelist feat) but the thing is when the DM rolls to hit me, he doesn’t roll lower than a 19. I expect be attacked, but I wasn’t expecting the DM’s die to want me dead, and even my own die since I’m really unlucky with death saving throws. (Already lost my first character for the second time due to that shit)

Way of Tranquility Harpy, because all the other monks are sunsouls already, and we needed healers. What are the benefits of being a flying healer whose wings function as arms (because I ain't no discount angel)? Well, so long as I can fly, I'm able to reach someone from across the map to give them the good touch, or kick the crap out of someone if they piss me off. The entire map is Sparta now.

Kensei is incredibly op and overlooked, I’m playing a kensei bugbear in baldur’s gate and our dm has to either double the enemies or use weighted dice to even touch my character

Agreed. In one of my brother's campaigns, in which he allowed myself and only another player to make gesaulted characters, I combined a Kensei monk with an Oath of Devotion paladin. The end result: the D&D equivalent of a Jedi Knight.

@Lance Clemings Once had a party with an aarakocra monk in that getup. The suit was stolen and didn't fit very well, but i'll be damned if that wasnt the most dapper owl-boy i ever saw.

As someone who has played D&D for a little while (intermediate level, newer to 5e), these videos are way more helpful than a lot of the more 'serious' ones.

A crap guide to d&d is legitimately my favorite series on KZread. Thank you for making these videos

It's a nod to his first Crap Guide series, where he did the same thing, but for Monster Hunter weapons. The intro would feature all the weapons he'd previously reviewed, and the outro would add the one he just did. Also, the Longsword got longer with each video after it was reviewed.

Iiiive watched this series more than once and only JUST noticed today that the figures on the table in the begining/end credit sequence correspond to the guides you've already done. What an excellent detail!

I really appreciate how each video, watching in order, adds a mini of each class you already crap guided on the table with wiggles the DM

As a teenager who's literally grown up playing D&D I'm happy to say, that this along with all the other guides are extremely accurate

i love how every time you make one of these you add a little figurine of the class that you just did, its a small detail that i really enjoy, keep up the great work :)

Love how the figures of the characters get added at the end of each episode.

In my free time I frequently cook Crap Guides in a rusty spoon and enjoy them intravenously. These are Crack Guides and JoCat is my guide dealer.

This is straight-up probably my favourite of the series. The intro... The spiel... Just perfect.

I like how the intro’s table slowly gets filled up by figurines of the character you made. Nice details!

You're killing it with this series, keep it coming!

Okay, but I can't believe you refrained from making a single Jojo's ref. I mean, if you want to cosplay as a Jojo's character in DND, monk seems to be the way to go.

I like how the table becomes filled with the previous classes touched upon by the series. It's really appealing.

Me: Plays Sword and Shield because it's genuinely fun All of my friends after watching these videos: HEY, THIS GUY IS FUNNY AND LIKES SWORD AND SHIELD, BANDWAGON HOOOOOOO!!! Real talk though, it feels good to know someone else loves Sword and shield. It's a fantastic all arounder (yes, I also play charge blade because I'm a traitor)

I made a Warforged Monk named Oen (Pronounced Owen) that adapted martial arts as his style of Warfare. He's basically the reverse Neo as a machine using his machine precision to perform matrix like hax aka monk athleticism stunts. It's so damn fun using "The One" fighting style.
