Ойын-сауық
Join me and Saku earlier this winter 2019 as we adventure far over the country to get off grid for a week. I travel by snowshoe hauling two sleds and near 220 pounds of gear behind me. I have a canvas hot tent and a cold tent. THIS IS PART 2. The purpose of this trip is to explore a new area, prepare myself for longer winter expeditions and enjoy the peace, quiet and freedom of the great outdoors.

Dude looks like a hockey player . Tough man in a rugged environment with his dog . This is the making of a great video . Looks cold and unforgiving . The tent , the luxury of a bit of comfort in the harsh bitter cold divided only by the thickness of canvas . Plentiful firewood certainly helped . The appreciation of some hot food . What is it that makes food taste so good when you are out in the sticks ? Loyal pal right by his side . I will watch this over and over . There are many videos on hot tenting . But few are of such an exceptional scenario .

Appreciate it Erna, all the best.
There is absolutely nothing finer than hunkering down in a hot tent with a good dog and LOTS of good firewood. This video brought back a lot of memories of the smells, tired muscles and the feel of the heat from a wood stove in a canvas tent on a cold day. Well done, sir.

Just have to reiterate: Saku is just the best dog. He’s the best dog in the universe!
Absolutely love that shot of Saku guarding the nice warm tent while you were gone getting water, a classic.

he's a good boy!
My heart belongs to Labrador, but I really enjoyed this glimpse of Newfoundland. Thanks for taking me out onto the land, and for the cross country skiing footage. Not sure how you do all the camera work on your trips, but it has to be tough, trying to make progress and trying to create good footage. You're great at it, the filming, the narrating. Get a good sled dog harness for that big boy of yours, he could easily haul his own weight, and enjoy himself doing it. He has the kind of enthusiasm that wins long distance sled dog races. A big shout out to Heather, for giving you free rein to follow your dreams. She's a great gal. Follow your dreams as long as you can. That light...the light of Labrador? That same light shines on Newfoundland. The light of pure wilderness. Thanks for illuminating it, and peace to you.

It makes us feel honored when we camp in such a place...?
Loves it, loves it, loves it! I dearly loves it!!!
1:06 “Maybe I need some better lighting...” Yah, sure mate. You could have a whole production crew like the MeatEater show. Two or three camera guys filming you and hauling your stuff, cocking yer meals. Course they’d be staying in a big tent round the other side of the bend, come over in a couple a snow machines, have generators and whatnot. But, on the other hand, don’t. I like ya better the way you are. Honest, real, just a regular explorer figuring it out as you go, sharing your foibles and fun as each moment unfolds. Good for ya Justin.
@ 35.54/35.55. That is the best ! Give your true best friend a first taste of the meal your'e gonna eat. Sweet lovable Saku !
Your series has me itching to plan our next Winter trip. I love early Spring and Winter camping. Glad my little cup got to go on the adventure and that you and Heather enjoy the honey. Raw honey like the one I sent you is great for your kit for wound care and healing a sore throat like the one you experienced on the trip. Nice to see you have a great med kit. I'll have to look into those blood clotting pads. I hear you with having a slip while talking to the camera...I got a booter though the ice doing the same! Thanks for the shout out and for taking me (and my cup!) along!
What a good dog!!! Not barking at Coyotes!!!

Hey Justin, thanks for sharing this one. Looks like a blast out there for sure. Definitely looked like the extra weight and luxuries made for some great meals and warm comforts in the bush, I know the sleeping must of been great! Looking forward to the next one!
Nice to see you and Sak hanging out at one campsite for a well needed change from the regular tripping thing , taking time for some good old R & R ( and what a great camp location you chose ) . Loved the views of the Barrens in Winter at late afternoon and sunset - how peaceful ! Cool shoulder tat of your home Province : ) . Happy trails man , and thanks again for taking us along .
Loved it long time since I was in around this area.
Thanks for this awesome video Justin god bless you
This is possibly the best produced video you have ever done and #manpower !!!
Boy oh boy, Sak sure has the life!!
It’s so awesome to open you tube and see a new frosty ☃️ video of you & adorable Sak waiting for me! It’s so unrelentingly hot here in Texas now. ☀️ Enjoyed part 2 so much!! Thank you!
the illuminated tent at 12:22 is brilliant
Love the creepy heartbeat, and sound effects.
Great video Justin!...what beautiful rugged countryside...thanks for sharing i love your videos!
This was wonderful on so many levels; Thank you so much! And, for the record, you are just as awesome as Joe Robinet, if not moreso in your own ways. 💐
just great area to hold up thank Justin
Good choices on the music used and not over done. This trip was spectacular. The landscape is so remote. The hot tent is like a 5 star hotel out there. Thank you for sharing.
Truly amazing scenery! Sure brings back memories of the old days camping and roughing it. Thanks for bringing us who can't do what you're doing anymore, along. Saku, what a loyal partner
This video is the best yet. Love it!
Another amazing video Justin Barbour n Saku !! Loved it
Absolutely awesome, beautiful sunset, Saku looked so handsome with the sunset glow! I couldn't help but laugh at your expense, happy you didn't hurt yourself! I prefer to go camping for weeks at a time instead of days, I love it!!!
These are my favorite videos of yours. I like exploring but really enjoy a base camp and setting up for a longer stay. Great job! Really relaxing video!
Loved this one (as well as all of them), not sure why it took me so long to watch. Those were the first classic skis I bought too... they served me well! Ended up going to the 91mm wide version with metal edges for the icy stuff and more float a couple years ago. Thanks for the entertainment.
Keep em coming!
you had a great trip there Justin. never know what nl weather will bring. that's good to get out before the rain. deep water in that pond i was hoping you would get a good size trout for a lunch. till next time take care

I love the multiple camera you use on you trips. Mother Nature has the best lighting anyway. What you need is a thermoscope.
Justin it is always nice and rare when my wife also enjoys watching a bushcraft adventure type video with me. She is a big fan
See coyotes every night from my 10th floor balcony in Mississauga some as big as German shepherds. Never seen one in the wild either but heard them often. Tent is pretty nice. Enjoying the show. If I ever get down home again to Cape Breton think Ill take that ferry to Newfoundland. Cheers
The quiet is awesome. That alone is worth the watch.

Another amazing video buddy! I don't know if people realize how good you are at incorporating music into the perfect spots. You and Shawn James stand alone in Telling a story without saying a word! Good on you friend!
You have no idea how wonderful it has been going on this journey with you and Saku. I am housebound so seeing the ridge amid empty ice and snow. The beautiful sky, trees you scoffing your dinner with Saku nudging closer to you in the hope of more bacon. Feeding the voracious fire after you were trudging around in snow shoes with Saku staying in your shadow on the snow. You do sound very Irish and the music playing was Irish too. I learn't that you are a Canadian Labradorian and your quite handsome even with the loss of your front tooth. I am honoured to be with you on this trip you and Saku are lovely. Thank you Justin : ) ps I'm a Londoner now living in an English seaside town. ( I do miss London : (
Just flipping around my KZread subscriptions and realized I never did watch the second episode of this trip. An unexpected treat. There’s nowhere like Newfoundland and Labrador. Thanks Justin and Saku.
Great video! Thnx! Lately 4 people were killed in a tent in Austria because of CO poisoning, maybe it's an idea to bring a small CO-detector with you. Just caring!
Home away from home:) Another class video Justin....look forward to more adventures with Saku!!

LOVED THE VIDEO THANKS
Great video Justin!! The more you camp in the canvas tent the closer I get to getting one in the very near future 😊
I hope your channel does well. These kind of videos are exactly what I've been wanting. Just getting out into the woods and doing some camping, hiking, fishing, etc. No "bushcraft" or "survival" BS. Just a normal person heading out to enjoy some time outside. Shug is great too, but Canada has a lot more possibilities when it comes to the outdoors!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Beautiful
Saku adores the ground you walk on I can see it in his eyes as he watches you.
Love your videos Justin, and really love Saku what a great dog he is. I noticed you started with booties for him which were great for protecting his paws from getting frostbite and keeps him more comfortable, just like us walking on ice and snow it hurts and burns your feet. I've learned a lot about dogs from a vet friend of mine, please keep up the good care and have him wear those great booties! My vet friend also suggests in the kind of temps your dog is in they need a bag of some kind to maintain their body temperature with a pad to keep them off the freezing ground. The heated tent is great though, you really take such great care of Saku and set a great example to others who also explore and camp with their dogs, so many people don't realize animals are not that different from us as far as temperatures are concerned and how they feel in those conditions. Keep up the great care with Saku, people can learn a lot from you through your expeditions and great animal care.
Justin I watched a lot of your videos and learned also a lot. I do my own test in parallel, and would like to thank you very much, you made a new adept.
Great spot to hunker down for a few days with all that wood nearby. Those sidekicks sure are handy. Easy to cook and fairly light. Thanks for sharing Bud. Have a good one.

Great video Justin, thanks for all your efforts, very well filmed and edited. Saku looks like a very good dog for traveling with on account of his long legs. He is a good dog for sure! Keep up the excellent work!

Great video and very informative. I have been trying to catch up on your stuff. I also watch Joe but I feel you are right up there with him and in many ways better. You have your own very unique style and way of sharing your story with us. I am waiting to see your final episode of Crossing Labrador. I love Sako and feel you need him as much as he needs you. He is a great companion and you take great care of him. He is a very important part of your story. Keep up the good work.

Wow! Can't believe I haven't watched this one before but I could tell by the old stove and pipe that it was "ancient"! This must have been a super cool hike with the Saku and exploring new terrain. I know you are gearing up for the BIGGIE so no reason for responding. I can't wait for your interactions with what"s left, if any, of the old Innuit or the Indians or any of the native folk that lived in the regions you are going to explore. Not to dither, this was another great trip for all of us!
Justin, You will find better wall tent winter camping if you put up a plot trap over your tent with steep pitch to shed the snow and rain. Plus the space between the walls makes it easier to heat your tent. I'd also put a cap on my stove chimney to keep snow out when not burning wood
You have some nice picture and music to the background playing
Great stuff you got going on.. Keep at it Justin ... Cheers
