The apartment was very large, but very cluttered, so it appeared smaller than what it was. The bare rooms at the end attest to that. I guess he was an avid collector and whenever he acquired something he promptly displayed it, paying no mind to the fact that it would compete for attention with hundreds of other articles. Some people call this style lived in, but it's just not my cup of tea. Fewer objects displayed at one time would afford you more space to move around and to actually see and enjoy them. If I were so fortunate as to be able to afford such lovely pieces, I would rotate them throughout the year, giving each piece an opportunity to shine. They were obviously very valuable articles, judging by the prices they fetched in auction after his death. But it is stimuli overload for me.
It is a rare talent to blend over 2000 years of human artistic expression into a coherent whole. Would have loved to have seen it in person.

Completely true!! I agree
Most of his artwork (paintings, sculptures, etc.) are great pieces if you look at them individually. Unfortunately, being so cluttered together it's impossible to appreciate them for their individual beauty. I'd love to view the auction catalog though to actually see the pieces for what they are. I've been loving this channel from the begining, great work!

This home was meticulously curated . To refer to this as “ cluttered “ is ridiculous. It was a home ; it was lived in .

@@mignoncat1- Yes, it was lived in and cluttered. Albeit with many intricate pieces, creating an ecclesiastic atmosphere. Suffocation to me, too but ANY time better than Princess Diana's tacky apartments at Kensington Palace.
The very definition of decadence ❤, and I am living for it!
I think he had incredible style as the bones of the spaces are very gorgeous. His basic pieces are really well done but then there was a point where he went overboard and those gorgeous bones were hidden under all the clutter.
Fantastic!
Love This- thanks!

Hello CE Yves St . Laurent another wonderful desiner with lovely fragrances. You should do one on Versace or Estée Lauder. Anyhow lovely apartment love tha marble floors and the paintings. Nice furnishings but maybe a wee bit cluttered. I can see he really liked collecting art pieces and paintings. That’s ok but it can really fill up spaces quick. Overall he clearly liked fine pieces. Like Coco’s style better. Thanks for another insightful always interesting lesson in Cultured Elegance 😊👌💯🇨🇦🇨🇦Laura from 🇨🇦

Hi Laura!! yes i will in future, good thinking! I agree with you, a little bit too cluttered! You are so kind, always appreciate your comments!!
For a moment, I thought I was living in YSL's home. I call it clutter. Though his is undoubtedly of much higher quality. His guests must have gone mad looking for a spot big enough to put down a wine glass. I think Coco did it better in her Parisian digs. Yves' guests couldn't even browse the titles with all the photos covering the bindings. Coco at least gave a convincing performance that she read her books. What a load of dough he was worth in the end. I don't know if my estate sale will fetch quite as much. However, I will persevere with dreams of Yves to spur me onward.

As much as I loved Coco Chanel's style. Hubert de Givenchy was my favourite designer. His apartment in Paris, as well as his chateaux, were an absolute dream of harmony and luxury.

Taste is subjective. I find this style chokingly claustrophobic. It reminds me of a overstuffed museum/art gallery
.....I was always fascinated by him, starting in the 70's, ... I think the home is interesting, ...however, there's " too much "....One cannot fully appreciate the bones of this expansive home, due to all the " stuff " and the use of opulence in ways that overpower the space. It felt quite different, seeing everything removed, ...like the home coukd " breathe " and one could actually SEE the room ,it's basic design. It was saddening ( to me ) that everything was Auctioned ( I was aware of this, when it was taking place ) ... for all his Successes and Art Collections, all the trappings .... those are things that are beauty, we enjoy them....However, those things really make no difference at the End of the Run here on the Earthly Plane, ...©️
Your really knocking these out great Job. Funny some of the comments in your videos...are its so cluttered and its stuffy...obviously peasants. When you grew up wealthy you did things very different than today. Myself I wasn't allowed to eat at the dinner table without a shirt ever....and no food was ever allowed in any other rooms except the dining room or the side room off the kitchen. Dogs were never allowed on furniture..and they weren't allowed in your bed. Today there is nothing so horrid as to be on line at the store and see a woman in black yoga pants with cat hair all over her rear.......geeezz Get a $4 lint roller for gods sake.

I agree with you on absolutely everything except about dogs. Ours is always on our beds but with sheets under her, of course and on furniture but again, only, with sheets under her. And if you notice Saint Laurent had his dog on his bed too.

@@CulturedElegance I dont mean to hurt anyone's feelings but the important part to take away is There is always two faces to your family that you were taught. even if you had all the money in the world or were poor. When inside your own home you do what you like...but today the part that is gone is...When you go out in public you present a good image of yourself and your family for you have to share the outside space with others.
And it STUNK to high heaven of old cigarettes!!!!
Was the emptied house sold, and for how much?
Obviously exceptional and decadent. One piece of his art is worth more than my entire portfolio. However, money not being an issue, I prefer Hubert de Givenchy’s Paris apartment. It’s a scaled down and less cluttered.

Lots of stunning art and objects, it's more like a shop than a home way too much stuff, even though they're beautiful.
I would love to know who inherited his wealth. Relatives? Charities?
@MTMF.london

His business/life partner was Pierre Bergé who inherited the estate and later set up the Yves Saint Laurent-Pierre Bergé Foundation. Bergé later married Madison Cox, a landscape gardener, in March 2017 but died in September 2017 at the age of 86, leaving Cox as his presumptive heir. Allegedly Bergé was in a relationship with Cox while Saint Laurent was still alive and Cox also had another man on the side! They led very complicated lives, eh?

Just as in design, he never achieved what Karl Lagerfeld was. It's funny how he hoarded exquisite art to put it in piles, it looked like a cheap pawn shop. Honestly felt relieved with the last images of the place empty.

I thought it was stuffy and overstuffed
Some rooms look like the Paris flea market, suffocating; pattern upon pattern upon pattern. At the end of this clip, the empty house looks ironically, stunning, Classical, full of grandeur and light…..the flea market moved on.
Monsieur "riva sinistra"
A lot of stuff.
Truly magnificent but not comfortable for living. I wonder who did the dusting.
How amazing to accumulate all that, only to die, leave it and have it all auctioned off. Mark 8:34 Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. 35 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. 36 What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? 37 Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?

YSL' designs is synonymous w/Glamour & Beauty...unfortunately, his apartment is too dark & cluttered, does not look comfortable. It is difficult to compare his Flawless Fashion Designs to his taste in Decorating, very different. Thank you, love your videos.
Looks like a garage sale layout. A bet the wealthy hoarders liked that sale. More "stuff" for them.
Too much of a good thing. He certainly had very fine taste in objets d'art - but he was an undisciplined and overindulgent man ....and that is clearly reflected in this apartment.

Maximalism just looks cluttered to me.
Bring on the migraine. The only space that was warm and inviting was the library. I imagine a army of cleaners was required to keep that place clean.
Toooooooo many things everywhere, not elegant.

YSL’s MAGNIFICENT apartment is so impeccably designed and furnished and accessorized that it seems it’s from ANOTHER PLANET ALTOGETHER. THE utterly worthless and SOULLESS DRECK that is considered “good” let alone actually beautiful interior design today wouldn’t even be fit to go into the DUMPSTER behind Yves building back then. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😫😫😫😫😫
