A close up look at the Affordable Bender's Build Quality

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

My Affordable Bender video has had a TON of views! Thank you all! However, some of you have asked about the build quality, or flat out accused me of being just a talking head for Affordable Bender. This video is to help address some of the comments and... well.. accusations from the comments on that video.
Do you want to see up close how well the Affordable Bender is built? Are you curious about its overall build or how it operates? Have a look at this video.

Thanks for posting Nate 👍 looks like a fine bender, It looks completely possible to build a lot of stuff with that. Nate don’t worry about those people complaining that you got it for free, some people like to complain about anything, I have gotten those same people in the past too. I think you completely showed in great detail about these benders. Take care 👍

Eastwood has one that’s identical to this affordable bender. I wonder if there’s any difference as in better or not better. 🤔

Valid question. I don't know as I haven't seen the eastwood up close. Iirc the price is higher though.

Great video. Can I use it to make fresh squeezed orange juice? Do you know if it's rated for pulp or pulp free?

Ahhhhh. Nicky g.. I think it all depends on what diameter die you have. And how big of an orange you're talking about.

I actually bought one of these because of your previous video. However myself I am not impressed at all after spending over $600, for the vendor and two dies I did believe to be a reasonable cost I was especially frustrated with one their customer service and two the overall quality of the bender. First off when I ordered it they failed to mention that they were closed it wouldn't open until next week when I emailed them to tell them what dye sizes I would like there was no professional courtesy automated email saying that this was the case so after waiting 3 days I emailed again to get confirmation that they had indeed received my order and were processing as I was frustrated that they took my money and sent me no confirmation or shipping details. Then upon receiving it, I of course was super excited and went to play around with it myself upon first glances it does appear to work very well especially for and affordable bender. However upon closer review I noticed for some explicable reason the pump jack mounting point is actually not centered in the bender nor are there bushings to center the dye itself so inevitably what happens is every time you make a bend when you try to make a matching band on the opposite side for instance doing a 180 or any sort of one-piece design even while using a magnetic digital inclonomer as there is no indication of where you are as you so aptly pointed in your video inevitably what happens is none of the bins line up they will be on different planes and in my opinion it is putting too much stress on the die and will lead to premature failure of the die and I at anywhere from $130 to $160 a piece I would make my dies to last as long as you normally possible. Then I also noticed the finish of the overall die is actually pretty good however also for some inexplicable reason and also I did not see this in your previous video nor did I see it on their website as soon as you get larger then inch and 3/8 all of the die material holding clamps have welded washers on them which I believe to be poor quality as everything is either painted or brushed ground finished in some way and I believe that to be false advertising as for all I know when I originally received it someone could have welded that on as even your video said that the washers and tightening the clamp securely prevents it from elongating the hole so when I received a randomly welded clamp I believed I had been sent a used product. So after all these issues I emailed customer service and received several not very professional responses. I was told that the singular screw that holds the top of the jack in place is actually the main culprit for why my bins were off and it wasn't centered however after proving to him with photos that you cannot adjust that to center as the entire cap is welded offset and there's only one screw so there is no way to center it once you loosen the screw the jack falls out. Of course he did not like that answer and shocked it up to my incompetence then proceeded to tell me that the welded washers are a standard on all of them larger than inch and 3/8 which is also not on their website nor in the photos, lastly after requesting several times a return on the product I finally got a response saying that yes I indeed could return the product however I would have to pay for return shipping and it needs to be returned in new condition with its own packaging well seeing as how I was completely sold in the beginning I did not have that original packaging and was also very skeptical to send the product back that they were so eager to take my money and wait for them to inspect the product before returning my money. So now I'm stuck with about $600 worth of metal that doesn't bend very well and if I would want to fix I need to basically take apart and redesign. For the hobbyist doing very minimal bending I would say it is decent however for another $150 you can buy the exact same style from speedway motors including five dies a return jack spring and a holder for the pump jack handle, which I was also unimpressed with as it was a two-part handle that looks like something out of a emergency jack for a vehicle. So I would suggest them not this.

Hey, just wanted to say thank you for the long detailed comment. So far my own experience with the bender has been good, but limited. I am a beginner at bending tube. So it's easy for me to miss some of the details you've pointed out. I'm very sorry if my review mislead you at all. I try to be as thorough as I can with these sort of videos. But you don't know what you don't know as they say. Right? I'll be doing more with the bender over time and if I run across the same limitations I'll be sure to outline them for viewers. Thanks for watching and I hope you can find some use for your investment.

@@SWBCrawler of course I really enjoy your channel and watching your builds I just wanted to make sure people at least were a little bit more informed than myself I've been doing some research into modifying and making some adjustments as it looks like a few other people at least on KZread have had similar issues or are just smarter and learned how to make it better for their own needs. But I hope it works out for you and thank you for responding I am definitely not disgruntled with you by any means you were actually the deciding factor it took me 3 years to finally purchase one as it is a lot of money and budget is always a keyword. Have a great day and look forward to seeing more content
