To confirm the SWAG MACHINED TUBING BENDER AIR/HYDRAULIC RAM MOUNT needs to be for a Woodward Fab WFB2 correct?

Yes the WFB2 is the swag clamp I got and worked perfectly. If you ever need to do .188 wall thickness I’d strongly consider the www.swagoffroad.com/products/swag-machined-tubing-bender-air-hydraulic-ram-mount?variant=41836911722681

Companies could make a killing down here in NZ or Aus with these benders, they want about 2.5k US without dies which puts it out of the game for most people and it sucks as you have to rely on others which just ups the cost of building even basic things and with added taxes on importing stuff its just crazy. Honestly i don't care were stuff is made as long its quaility and they have good support - even baileigh now makes stuff from china. Thanks for the upload and review

Awesome video brother. As an average guy, I have to pick and choose what to put my money into. I'm all about buying nice tools when it makes sense, but I'm not a fab shop so buying a 1k+ tube bending setup doesn't make much sense. This is great!

I feel the same way. This felt like this was the best way to get a semiprofessional style bender on a regular man’s budget.
It’s crazy how fast and expensive used benders go for on marketplace in my area. I have been wanting a bender for a very long time. I almost regret not getting the JD 2 but this cheep bender works and I’m trying to put the money in Jeep parts instead.

@@foregonetrails That’s awesome! Can’t go wrong with JD2 🇺🇸.
Maybe I missed it but where did you get 1 3/4" die for $272? Thanks. Great video, really informative.
My questions are how thick are the bender frames? What is the max angle the dies can bend. Looks like 90* only. My JD2 dies are 180* and the frame is 3/4" thick. Also the degree dial is easy to read so no second wheel needed. Also what is the pin diameter? JD is 7/8" for all but the center which is fatter.
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
The bender will work with 180* dies. Three pins are 7/8” and the center pin is 1”. The arms are 5/8”
So Amazon is just under 3 but swag is over 3 with a little tig weld and grinding to fit can make the swag work on cheaper option mentally noted
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
The mounting clamps that hold the hydraulic ram to the bender only accept a 80mm outside diameter hydraulic ram. The only place that sells a 80mm ram is Harbor Freight, the rams that are sold on Amazon are 78mm and will not work with any of the Swag Off-road bender ram clamps. I should have explained it a bit better in the video. Thanks for asking.👍🏼
@bassinshankles
Ай бұрын
@@TrailTime. You explained it perfectly what I'm saying is tig weld inside the clamping area of the swag clamp to decrease the size of the opening from 80mm to 78mm best you can and grind it to fit

and how do ypu hold it from moving? Plus if it wont bend 2" 120 wall. no good.
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
2” .120 wall would be no problem. I’ve only been bending 1 3/4” DOM. Both .120 and .188 Wall thickness. The bender will handle 2” with the proper die. I use adjustable roller stands to support the tube during setup while confirming the tube is in plane. Once a bend starts there is plenty of force holding it during the bend. After a bend i position the roller stands under the new shape and release the die clamp. The engine stand has no problem holding the weight.
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
I could have explained it better. The only part that is underrated is the Ram mount. swag off-road has a better one that’s rated for up to .188 wall thickness. The one I have is only good enough for up to .120 wall. Thanks for watching.
I looked at some budget benders. How many of them are rated to bend mild steel tubing with 1.75 od and a minimum wall thickness of .118 per nhra? Not all of them. And that size you better be hitting the gym a lot and have a cheater bar 20 ft long to bend by hand. Even some of the larger table top units with a bottle jack don’t meet the requirement. I get if you are just building bumpers of light bars. But roll cages are about safety, not about being thrifty or cheap when your life may be saved by a good cage.
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
Definitely use the rulebook of the sanctioning body that you will be participating in. Bending .120 isn’t hard on a mechanical bender of this design. A 4’ leverage bar is more than enough for 1.750 x .120 DOM tubing on a mechanical bender.
I wanted the review on how it bends and performs

@@TrailTime. I'm not trying to be "one of those guys" talking out their... Just sayin, when your inching up on an angle it's a lot easier to get it right by hand. Once you go too far.. You're too far is all. Happy Wheelin!!
It’s not high quality. I have this 209 bender and the arm has ALOT of play in it. I had to weld several plates to it so it didn’t slump. Also a company named Grizzly offers dies that work for this bender for a fraction of the cost of Woodward fab or any other die
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
Interesting, you have my attention. Is it the center pin insert bushing that is worn out? Everything else is 3/4” steel bolted together. I’m not picturing much that could be sloppy other than the bushing to have any play. I’m not using the mechanical arm though. That went to the scrap bin in day one. I went straight to the hydraulic ram. Thanks.
@RELAXnRENOVATE
Ай бұрын
@@TrailTime. That’s exactly what it is. The bushings aren’t an exact fit around the pin nor inside the hole they go in so there is so much slop that the arm hangs at a pretty decent slope as it sways through the bend. I added some plates and drilled the holes to be more exact around the pin, plus added some spacers to the mechanical arm to make it more tight. It’s a lot more tight and level in action than it was. I’m going to be making a lot of compound bends so I need it to be tight.
@TrailTime.
Ай бұрын
@@RELAXnRENOVATE this is why I started the video talking about JD2. When a cheep knock off company is selling stuff quality control issues are always a problem. I may have gotten lucky with mine the clearance on the center pin are tight. I don’t know how long it will last (especially bending.188 wall) the Jd2 says their model 32 is good for up to 2” .250 Wall DOM. Thanks for sharing your experience.
@RELAXnRENOVATE
Ай бұрын
@@TrailTime. I thought about the effect a hydraulic ram would have on the stability of the swing arm. It seems like having it mounted stationary is what gives a normally sloppy sway arm a little more rigidity. That might be why you didn’t notice it since you discontinued the mechanical arm right away. Anyways…check out the grizzly bender. It’s the same as this 209 bender but with inexpensive die sets. That company offers a 1.5” 180 degree 4.5” radius for under $300.00. The other companies are around $500.00 for that specific die. Seems high quality so far. It’s worth checking out
I think we must be past caring about US made. Remember, it's your neighbors that have businesses like JD2.
