A Christian in Turkey: Up against oppression | Life Links

While just visiting as a tourist we won't have enough opportunities to feel the reality of their daily lives. Turkey is indeed the most democratic islamic country but is sill far from ideal. I'm married to a Turkish-Armenian who is a Christian. Of course we have many Muslim friends there and we have no problem with them, but not everybody is like that. There are extreme people who throw stones to the ones who work during Hamadam, not to mention the first thing that shocked me during my first time in Turkey was that their religion is mentioned in their IDs. I had never seen such thing before. It's exactly to make separation and treat differently.

Then they go and see the deputy mayor of Mardin who is also Christian. Incidentally on their way to Mardin they pass by a refugee camp, one of many in that country, accommodating 3.5 million Syrians and Iraqis who are registered, in addition to maybe another million or two who entered Turkey illegally, some of whom are also Christian. Is there something missing here?

The Turkish republic and Turkish society is Secular. A uniter nationalist and modern society. Every citizen is equal under the law. The state nor the society judge any citizen by its roots nor the faith. Everyone is free to practice own mother language and faith unless it is used as an excuse for separative movements. The video shows people practicing faith free and speaking their own language aswell. This type of videos done by Eu-American media is nothing but fantasy when real life has nothing to do with thousands years of old religions, nor thousands years of dead languages from distant past. Meanwhile ordinary Turkish citizens are busy with a struggle to feed themselves and the family every single day. The reality is that.

This was a very interesting documentary. I would love to visit Turkey one day since I have been watching so much Turkish drama, I've become interested in the country. It's sad to me that there really is no religious freedom, so the likelihood that I would be able to visit a church is slim to none. The kind of church depicted here in this video is not the kind of church that I would be looking for. Is this the only kind of church that they have in Turkey? I'm used to the kind of church where God actually makes His presence known and tangible. Sometimes the presence is so strong that I can hardly stand up. I'm used to seeing miracles signs and wonders like the Bible talks about. People come in sick and leave healed. Is it possible that any of those kinds of churches are in Turkey?

Are there women who marry such men in TURKEY ITSELF ? What the Muslim "Sharia" says about this ? Will appreciate you replies. Thank you.

I know still they live in same neigbourhood with my parents. They had their churches and temples and muslims and others had theirs. Also some of kurdish and turkish had different understanding of islam. I had never seen and discrimination in that environment. Our families were spending time in picnics, at night tea meeting and we were playing in the street together. Now, I am nonreligious even I was a muslim before, but I do not still see any discrimination in turkey. I really do not understand how people are that much full with turkey hate? I think you guys need to be cured before die because i believe in that neither kuran nor bible or jew's book want any haters there, in the other world.
