Massive massive thank you to Skyler for the super thorough proofread, go check out the channel, it's a goldmine of lovely tips! www.youtube.com/@TheADHDM
I ran the one-shot the day this video came out, the players loved it. Thanks Val!

@@corkboardsandcuriosities Watching them gather information while at the temple was really fun. They were blown away by every new piece of information haha I did have a little bit of trouble when they started asking the Sages' neighbors, I didn't know what to say, and they deliberately never mentioned that Wildorine died so they never offered to use the key double, it was kind of awkward

@@vindaaris9217 oops haha, yeah I could see that being an issue. Thanks so much for the feedback! It's fun to hear the temple was such a big moment for the players, in my head I assumed meeting Ninette would have been the strongest point, but that might just be because i am too biased by my taste in dread hahah
Can I say I have found your channel very recently and it's just... Absolutely fantastic. You approach running D&D from such an immersive, intelligence-respecting perspective where you trust your players and audience to be capable of following you into a deep dive rather than underestimating them. It feels incredibly refreshing. Quickly went to the top of my personal favourites.
Izeline is a fantastic take on the succubus. The whole one shot is really concise while not being obviously on rails. I'm 100% borrowing elements, if I don't end up using it as is.
@corkboardsandcuriosities
11 ай бұрын
haha yeah, I think the "non sexual succubus" thing was really my main incentive to write this, i'm really glad you like this aspect. And yeah, with one shots (and especially for a mystery) I think some rails tend to help, but I'm hoping this one doesn't feel too restrictive to the players? This comment for sure reassures me on that, it's something I always worry about a bit when writing modules. On one hand modules often inherently have some rails to help out the GM, but the less obvious or pushy, the better haha

@@corkboardsandcuriosities I think it does a great job of allowing player choice to drive the story. That's a big part of getting that "solving a mystery" feel. I'm also a sucker for monsters with flipped motivations. I've got Hags in my game that feed on joy. One runs a popular tavern, and another runs a massive bathhouse, but both are pretty "morally flexible" on how they procure that joy.

Ran this tonight with my players and they loved it! Thank you so much for writing this!
This is an amazing concept. I will absolutely run this for my friends. One of them is a very accomplished Keeper who runs a ton of Call of Cthulhu for my friends and I. Hopefully this will give him a taste of his own medicine.
Wow...that is quite incredible. The tone, themes and npc behaviour fit Call of Cthulhu perfectly, I was recently looking for my first scenario to run and now I am seriously considering running yours :)
I love the detail of embroidery! something very beautiful but often not examined by players, and a perfect place to hide pleas for help!
I just realised I wasn't subscribed to your channel. I missed so much good stuff!
Very happy to find this adventure, thanks.
Amazing story! So happy to see your channel continuing to make such high quality content! Can't wait to use this in my game.

That is an amazing take on the succubus, I am a big fan of reskinning monsters whenever possible to fill a specific need. I'm looking forward to running the one shot the next chance I get to GM.
@corkboardsandcuriosities
11 ай бұрын
oh absolutely agreed. I'm not big on mechanics, more of a flavour/tone person, so the good ol' reskin is my favourite thing. With the occasional replace/remove/add a trait or ability. I'm happy you like this take on the succubus, it was the main motivation to write this one shot!
What an engaging and interesting one shot/story! This was really well thought out and compelling, thanks!

Spectacular video. Seriously felt like I’d been watching for over half an hour at the 5 minute mark. Love the pace. Well done, so much to unpack here. 😊👍
Loved it! I'm just starting a campaign so I think I'll keep this one up my sleeve and drop it in a couple of sessions.

Wow, this is absolutely excellent! And managing to fit it into only 8 pages is an achievement in itself! I'll be adapting this for a gaslight era gothic horror game, maybe adding a few tidbits, an occult bookshop with a bit of extra information on life draining monsters and possible a victim that is currently being corrupted to add a ticking clock element?
@corkboardsandcuriosities

Thank you so much! Loving all those ideas, I tried to keep this one short for the sake of making it easy to run as a one shot, but if running this with more time, I think I will also go with a victim currently being corrupted, time sensitive stakes are an immediate upgrade
Great stuff! Loving the videos and happy I subscribed! printing it out rn, need some bridging stories after the big catastrophe in a few weeks.
This is very interesting. This specific construction seems to fit the cravings of three of my players. I will surely end up borrowing it eventually.
Amazing work once again! :D

I finally ran it today for my group and it was BIG HIT!! :D We all loved the characters and plot. The only small change I did for big horror impact was making the house of the Sage couple even creepier, using tips from your other videos. SPOILERS: They couldn't manage to save Ninette, but they did kill the monster. That was a big emotional hit for them. We even added a scene for Ninette's burial were they said some beautiful last words for her.
Great work Valentine! I run my own TTRPG system and your content always translates so easily to it! I love the details and worldbuilding you can do with less than 10 pages! It's always so nice to see you come out with new stuff and I love listening to you explain them!

@corkboardsandcuriosities It's called SimpleTop! It's meant to be....well, simple XD I'm aiming to make it friendly for beginners into the world of roleplaying and very homebrew friendly, so more experienced roleplayers can use a system with a lot more freedom for their own systems. It's basically a very light system that provides a foundation for combat, and just tips and tricks for storytelling (and very light systems in case you want to rely on rolling dice to progress the story). So far playtests have gone pretty well, and the goal of homebrew-friendliness and approachability for beginners is pretty good! I've run sessions ranging from Dark Souls boss fights, typical D&D adventures, some of your content, and even a Pokemon mystery dungeon one! If you'd like, I can DM you the link to the online repo with it so you can see updates and all that!

@@corkboardsandcuriosities Yep, a bit of a ramble incoming: Actually I've never even had a chance to play in person, I only played DnD online before. Even then I've had some pretty bad experiences with online groups at first and was almost ready to give up on it before I found one that clicked, and we've played together for around a year or so. That being said, the games eventually started getting less and less fun (the GM became veeery railroading and pretty much every session was 95% combat against the same few enemy types *for months*), and I've been struggling a lot with mental health so I decided to quit after we finished our first "campaign". Pretty recently I decided to give it another try, wanted to play again and figured that meeting some new people could be good, but no luck so far. Been asking around and checking the listings on Roll20, but most of the time it's either clashing timezones / schedules, or the groups are basically just looking for 1 more person and already have dozens of applications.
I love you're videos! Love horror one shots too! Nothing like getting a group of friends in a room and scaring them, I used to outlaw/Nerf dark vision because it's amazing how much players have to plan and think when they're operating in the dark

Audio quality has improved a lot, well done. I'd like to suggest an editing change. Allow a longer pause at the end of your sentences\ideas for me to process them. I find the lack of pauses makes the audio equivalent of a page of text with no paragraph breaks - it is difficult for me to take the information in

Although these days I'm learning to write for CoC, and I am planning to eventually move to writing system neutral modules. For the system neutral ones, I'm know it's been done before but haven't gotten the chance to research it more, I just need to take the time to look into it and figure out a proper structure that I like.
