    Tisas seem very committed to the 1911 platform. They tend to be rather good. Prices slowly getting higher and higher for a gun made in Türkiye. But….. much better than any Taurus 1911.

    @@TZmayo I doubt it! I've never known a manufacturer to simply "replace" a gun because it had problems. Generally, once a serial number passes through an FFL log book- as it does when you purchase a gun- that serial number is yours. (You can believe they don't track those serial numbers if you want to. And you can believe in the Easter bunny). More likely, they'll tie your gun up for as long as it takes to "fix" it. Bought a Tisas Tank Commander .45 a couple of months ago, finally took it to an indoor range. I put a laser bore sight round in the chamber to compare point of impact versus aim point, and made a note (aim slightly high and to the left). Shot silhouette targets at 7 yards, 25 rounds at each target. First 25 was to get a feel for the sights, recoil, check for malfunctions, etc. Had the errant stray round in the 9 ring, but most of the first group was in the 10 ring or X. Second group of 25 everything was in the X or 10 ring, no malfunctions. Right out of the box it fired well, hit what I was aiming at (more or less), and feel confident using this as a home defense weapon. Not practical as an EDC due to limited number of rounds in the mags, but well worth what I paid for it ($370 at Palmetto State Armory).

  • @t.k.morris

    @t.k.morris

    No insult or disrespect intended but I am really curious why so many people don't believe that 6 or 7 rounds is enough for self defense carry? If you really have to ever use one, one hit should be enough, and you will be in deep crap if you use more rounds for a real self defense need by the law. They already try to put you in prison for shooting someone once even when it is necessary.

    @@t.k.morris I used to conceal carry a compact .45, I think the mags held 7 rounds each, and I would carry two extra mags. The compact 9mm I carry now has a 13-round mag in it, and I carry two extra mags that hold 17 rounds each. I'd rather have the extra ammo and take a few extra shots, especially when under stress. Go to the range, fire 3 rounds in ten seconds. Do 20 jumping jacks or mountain climbers, your choice, then fire 3 rounds in 5 seconds at a different target. Compare the results, and you'll see my reasoning about switching from a 7-round .45 to a 13-round 9mm. My Tisas 1911 is not a compact, so I never considered it as a conceal carry.

    I have the Night Stalker in .45 ACP. I did not like the factory smooth black grips. Replacing them with G10 grips was a breeze, but the Tisas grip screws were too short for aftermarket grips and could not be reused. That is my ONLY gripe on an otherwise great pistol. The fit, finish, and reliability are excellent. I had 1 FTF early on using 230 grain ball, and it has run flawlessly ever since. At 15 yards it just blew a big hole in the 10 ring, despite my mediocre marksmanship. The front sight is nice and bright, and the lightening cuts look great too. They say it is a great pistol "for the money" but in reality it is just a great pistol period.

Like the Ruger 10/22 and the ARs, You can start out with a reliable, well functioning gun at an acceptible price and then add on features you prefer as time goes by. James, I know it isn't your thing, but I have a pair of Turkish O/U shotguns which have been outstanding. I have had them for 5 years (one for me one for my wife) that we use for sporting clays. (light target loads). We have fired thousands of rounds through them and they have been perfect. They look as good as guns costing, literally, 10 times as much. I can't speak for Turkish pump or autoloader shotguns, but the O/Us seem to be a great value.

    I looked at one of the Raider model today. For $600 it's not bad assuming it runs semi reliable since it's a range toy for me. It just felt small in the hand. I guess I'm used to the CZ SP 01 I generally use as a daily carry gun.

    CZ has always been a favorite of mine, but using a SP 01 as an EDC means you will cry in a defensive shoot. True the 7-8 you carry might not be enough, I am guessing g the Titas is 9mm might be 10-13, but you would lo$e considerably less money than you would with an SP 01

    Always liked the 1911. Over the years the pistol has only gotten better. My biggest dig on 9mm variants is why they did not slim down the frame for the 9mm? It's kind of what they did for the Star since it seems the frame is narrower than the .45. Great gun to CC and best news is the gun is so cheap if you have to use it you aren't losing a $5k pistol probably forever.
