A lot of lovely people are saying how nice it is to see us again, suggesting to me that they’ve missed our recent videos. We’ve put out one video a week for the past 7 weeks so if this is the first you’ve seen for a while, don’t hesitate to go back and check. They should be in the playlist ‘all videos in order’ and I think they’re all in the playlist ‘Coach House Restoration’.

This is Jerry writing first of all to thank Marc, Amy, Clement and Juliette for welcoming me in to their home and lives the past several days. They are a lovely and loving family. Marc and Amy have such an original and ambitious goal to return the chateau property and buildings to being a useful and beautiful addition to their community much as it must have been in the past. They love and honor the fact that they have been able to become the latest stewards of this very special place and I feel so privileged to be able to spend time together and to have them share their vision. I hope each of you reading will subscribe and follow them as I have been doing. The real joys and struggles they share on this channel inspired me to want to meet them and see for myself what they are doing. It is all so much more than what they can share on KZread given the ambitious scale of their plans including the grounds. Reintroducing biodiversity to over a hundred acres is not as easy to show as something more limited in scope. There are hundreds if not thousands of feet of stone walls to excavate and repair. Invasive plants that have taken over and need to be strategically removed or managed. Basic infrastructure such as an eco friendly septic system, updated heat, plumbing and electrical work across numerous buildings. It is ambitious but I have no doubt in Marc and Amy’s ability to achieve this. It will be a great opportunity for you and I to learn along with them. So join me in joining them on this journey. Thanks to all who read this.

Hi Jerry, I think it’s wonderful of you to take the trip from Seattle to meet this wonderful family. I have been following them since they started the channel and I find them to be an intelligent, kind, loving, ambitious family. I respect them for what they are doing with this beautiful chateau. I hope more people subscribe and support them because their videos are really wonderful. -Stephanie from New Hope, Pennsylvania

Forget the bucket brigade to move the gravel...set up a slide . Get a large diameter , thin walled plastic pipe, cut it in half and use it as a slide . Much easier than buckets or trucks. Love your chateau and grounds. Cheers from Canada.

Sadly the distance is too great for that. The time and money involved in creating a chute that long would be prohibitive. Also it would require us to hand-shovel several tons of pebbles into the chute. The advantage of a large machine is that it can scoop up large amounts of stones in one go and transport them down the dangerously steep slope.

Hey Amy, I completely understand you living with the mess in the kitchen. We've washed dishes in the bath tub before, had the refrigerator in the dining room for weeks and had the stove in the middle if the kitchen before. It's not easy when we are all in a hurry to have our houses in order especially when we have small children. Just remind yourself it won't be forever. Hugs, Kathy 🇺🇸

My late partner helped develop a similar filtration system using stones and aquatic plants to clean up a regional ammunition factory started before WWI. Explosives were contaminating the groundwater and leeching out past the property boundaries of the government facility. It's amazing what nature does to keep itself healthy if we let it.

Hi Marc, I helped build a cliff house the slope was about 45 degrees, we used a slide mainly to slide bags of concrete and gravel and timber, we framed it with side rail and the deck was form ply , later used in the build, but you could use second hand corrugated iron from other building sites,/ council tip. Support it with stakes and frame every 2-3 m. Good luck from Aus

That sounds like a great solution! I think the problem is this is a single job rather than a longer term building site so it’s not really efficient in terms of time or cost of materials to build anything just to get the pebbles down. Also we’d still need to shovel several tons of pebbles by hand. One of the things we need the machines for is the bucket to scoop them up! We simply don’t have enough time available on top of everything going on here to devote to the alternative solutions so we’re just going to need to find somebody else to do the work or wait!

Thank you for going over the sewage treatment technique you are/will be installing. This might sound odd, but it will be a joy watching how the project progresses. It sounds like a wonderful idea for an off-grid property. I have seen one other that was built on a slope. Once the aquatic plants and reeds had filled each pond, they looked wonderful in the landscape! Best to all of you.

You could dig a well where the spring is, we had a hand dug well, it was stone lined from many , many years before but today you could get a concrete sleeve to insert into the hole . Once you finish and cover it , it settles down and we kept a trout in it to keep it clean. Once the trout got big enough it became breakfast and we put a little one back in. Lovely video.🥰🙋🏼‍♀️

Welcome, Jerry! It was fun to see the walk-around, but that sewer situation must be insanely frustrating for both of you :( It sounds like what you're making down the hill is a giant composting toilet, haha! Gosh, finding that spring is such a boost isn't it? I've been following the sewerage vlogs with much interest, because I have a septic tank here in New Zealand. The laws around the installation of runoffs for yours sound very familiar, the soak pit for the runoff for mine was supposed to be straight forward, but was anything but! I was advised to plant flax bushes around the soak pit part of it, and fruit trees along the outer perimeter to aid with absorption/filtration. The flax is flourishing, haven't got around to planting the fruit trees there yet! I'm so impressed with what you've achieved with it all though, it's such a mammoth task. Amy, your kitchen of your dreams will come, I know how frustrating it can be but at the end of the day, these things take time and effort, and it won't be long before you're moved into and set up in that beautiful coach house! Much love and big hugs xxx🥰🤗🥰

Firstly I must say you look so well Amy, the holiday has definitely been beneficial to you. Relying on delivery dates is very frustrating, as the weather is the key to preparing the water filtering in the lakes. Your tiles will be beautiful when finished I'm sure. Enjoy your guest 💕🇦🇺

Amy and Marc: Love the discovery of the hidden springs. This proves that following our gut instincts and curiosity often pays off! I'm glad that you have a supportive visitor from Seattle who can offer a different perspective - "Cheers" from Iowa!

In the Midwest of the U S. we had a wooded property. When my husband would cut down a wild cherry tree and the next year it had sprouts and would grow a new tree!

This was a great video, no chicken pox this week to see the premiere, but I enjoyed it with a glass of wine and seeing Gerry’s tour. He looked to be a fabulous guest to have visiting, lots of knowledgeable questions to ask your very own Renaissance Marc! The tiles are stunning, and the perseverance from you both, around childcare, to complete the Coach House is admirable. xx

Once again a really interesting vlog. It really is all so much for you to do and hardly possible to show how much is involved in every step, but you're doing very well on all counts. And entertaining us at the same time in your own special fun way. It sounds as if you and Jerry had a great time together and his visit gave you a great opportunity to explain a lot to him and at the same time to us - with a lot of laughter along the way. Thanks so much.

Lately, I've been watching on my tv (firestick) and cannot comment. Although I am subscribed, I wonder what those of us watching on tv's does to the analytics. Well, at least the views get counted (I assume). I've got restoration experience (currently living in the 2nd 18th century New England Colonial home I've owned/renovated) and child-care experience too. So, if you're up for another visitor (not sure what led Jerry there), let me know. 🙂 And also ... I have a lot of experience tiling. -- That's laying them, not making them. Up to now, I would never have considered making them. So it's really interesting to see how it's done.

Amy that is a very ambitious project of making tile that goes around the entire room. I know you can do it and I know they’ll be beautiful because the designs that you have done are absolutely breathtaking. In my opinion it will certainly put your mark on the bathroom. I can’t wait to see what the finish project is no matter how long it takes. Bravo Amy I would celebrate the flaws to. They look fabulous just looking at them in the rough form. I have been wondering about the palm trees because they weren’t laying around the out house. Thank you Marc and Amy.
