I agree that regardless of the way it happens...having a choice about who goes first would be a good way to go.

I like the idea of allowing last player to choose.

I vote just make it like Fractured Sky where you choose what place to go in when you go out and make advantages for going first or last.

The thing is, the reason it works so well in Fractured Sky is because it's both a choice and a restriction : To be able to choose your turn order, you have to place your 3 ships, but if you do, you won't take anymore action for the rest of the round. If you regret going out last, you know you can make the intentional choice to go out earlier in the next round. In Brink however, the first player will always go out first, the second player will always go out second etc... So the last player might feel robbed that they didn't have a choice, especially in the first round where turn order is random. It does give the last player a disadvantage (which is good, because as said in the video, going last is pretty great in that game) but I don't know if it would work that well.

As you said, going first isn't that great (apart from having all hexes available). I playtested the game twice and I agree. So how about the person in first place (=has the most points) at the end of the round becomes first player ? I understand that a player could be first multiple times in a row which isn't great maybe, and people might still say that they did not get to be first player and it was weird, but it would certainly give a disadvantage to the leading player. Some strategy could even emerge from the fact that you might not want to have the most point at the end of round 2 to avoid going first, because round 3 is so important. I myself, hated being first in the last round of one of my playtest. I have no idea if that would actually work but that's my idea! Cheers IV 😁

I'm not sure if the game includes a bidding or purchase system, but if it does, I suggest creating a card that players can buy to determine their turn order. This card could allow players to choose to go first or, as you mentioned, take advantage of going last. I’m not sure if this solves your conundrum but I hope it helps! Can’t wait to play

As long as there is a miso token for the first player token, I'll be happy. Interesting to use it as a catch up mechanic.

Some geniuses created an amazing system in a game called Fractured Sky where you choose when you go. Maybe you're familiar with it?

I think Max‘s is the way to go. The only issue with person in last picking is it could also trap new players into picking themselves as first until multiple plays in. Very agreed on the feels bad part of turn order never filling cycling otherwise

I like the last player chosing who goes first, but not being able to pick the person who just went first.

Player in last place at the end of the round chooses who goes first in the next one?

What if you took Maxs idea and just folded choosing first player in, with whatever action/location seems to be the weakest or least desirable? Other than that Austins idea to have it be a catch-up adds some depth, imo.

Could it be possible if you have 4 or 5 you play 4 or 5 rounds respectively, all other player count, you play 3 rounds. This way all players get to go first and last?

OKAY SO.... I'm gunna rank these ideas. 1. Austin's idea the best because a catch up mechanic is always good. 2. Zach's idea the 2nd best because it doesn't add any rules to something that isn't that important 3. Max's idea is 3rd best because it make 1st player seem too important when it actually isn't 4. Austin's idea is the worst idea because I would have to remember that dang rule in my head and constantly have to check the rule book cuz no game has ever done this before. Hope that helps.

I'm a fan of worker placement games having a dedicated space where you can choose the upcoming turn order/who goes first. I wouldn't make it a free action for the last player, though, because it could present opportunities to box people into a crappy turn orders for little to no risk for the person going last. Alternatively, you could tackle it like Oceans did where the players who go first get bonus points for final scoring since it's less ideal to go first, with more/less points depending on the amount of players in the game.
