My favorite death metal band, second favorite of all time. For just how good they are, I rarely see anyone talking about them on YT, let alone making such detailed analyses. I love your stuff. You just keep making videos on my favorites!

I first heard Bolt Thrower on the Grindcrusher compilation. They alone, got me into death metal and still are my ultimate favorite band! They embody war so well that I forget that they did not go to war, only convey war and the sounds and ideas that happen during war. Thank you for this video, it was very interesting and thought provoking!

I love your kind of narrative based breakdowns of song structures and how the sounds conjure images. The best music to me is the kind that sonically calls images to mind and where the sounds really feel like the subject matter. That perspective definitely informs the way I try to write music

Longtime Bolt Thrower fan here, great video that does their songwriting justice. They’re often underlooked by American fans of old school death metal, but there was always something unique about Bolt Thrower that made them wholly aside from Deicide, Obituary, or their other 90’s contemporaries

I absolutely love your statement about Bolt Thrower being perhaps the only band that truly did WW1 justice with their music. Do you know any that do the same for WW2? Most bands I've listened to with lyrics dealing with that war tend to almost feel like jokes. Like they don't really get the gravity of the thing. This song really feels like the ending moment from Blackadder - do we have any for the second war?

Another fantastic book is "Ghosts have warm hands" by Wil R. Bird. Bird served in the 42nd Battalion, Royal Highlanders of Canada (The Black Watch) from mid ww1 all the way to the end of the war. His unit was present in the town square of Mons Belgium the moment the war ended and can even be seen in several photos from Nov 11th 1918. he writes about the shock and confusion of his Company being sent forward to attack into Mons when all the men knew the was was going to be over later that morning and how senseless it all was. specifically he writes how his section had to kill a German machine gun team with a rifle grenade and trying to console a soldier who's Brother in the same unit was killed in action with less than an hour until the cease fire. incredible book and pretty easy to get a copy. the Book was also known as "and so we go on" when it was originally printed.

Bolt Thrower are one of the best death metal acts from the UK, and all awesome people! If anyone likes their stuff, check out Memoriam: its basically a follow-up band. EDIT: Also, their songs are what tanks would sound like playing guitars.
