A BIG BACKYARD GREENHOUSE Tour: Orchids, Bromeliads, & More! - Ep. 273
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Michael Bowell has a thing for plants. It all started surprisingly with Viburnums, but later lent its way to tropical plants, which spurred him to build a series of greenhouses to house his plant obsessions.
This Houseplant Home Tour is graciously brought to us by Espoma Organic. You can find out more about them at www.espoma.com.

I absolutely love these tours. I would love to hang out with this guy. I'm sure you just scratched the surface of what this guy has. I would love to see it all. Please keep these tours going. From personal greenhouses to botanical gardens.
DELIGHTED to see Michael swear around half an hour in - heartfelt and emotional, just as it should be! Thanks for including it
I thoroughly enjoyed every single story he told! How nice it would be to be in his lovely greenhouse and learn about the fun history of all the plants in it!

Yes more of him at a revisit please. How delightful
BEST TYPE OF PLANTVIDEOS EVER
In a world of white boxes, everything just so insta perfect, this was it! I love people like this. That moment when you were on the second floor and you said " This is just.... " and you paused, to take it all in, that was so great. I would have done the same thing.
I grew up right up the street from Michael and he was very patient when I was a teenager of 14 getting into orchids and plants. Your video encouraged me to seek him back out and we reconnected for the first time since 1998. Because of your video we had a wonderful, nice long talk on the phone. If you're ever in the Charlotte area, I'd love to show you around the horticultural jewels as well as the sunroom that I built on to my condominium and my hybrid tea rose garden.
Being about the same age as Michael, I really appreciate the association of his plants with the time in his life/friends/experiences. I do that with my plants, some of which I've had for 40+ years. Wow, to have a greenhouse like that! Beautiful. So fun and extraordinary!
I could listen and look at his collection for hoursss ! This was something really special and I don't really know why, but it was !
I would love the lockdowns too if I lived in an endless greenhouse.
Videos like this make me want a greenhouse 😆

I have a back porch I built myself- I call it my plant porch. It's got posts, big windows, brick and concrete floor and corrugated see-through roofing. Since it attaches to the house and it's small I don't worry too much about air-conditioning but definitely have to heat it in the winter with a little ventless heater that hangs on the wall. Attached to that I have a long narrow room I use to save rainwater in rubber trash cans. I call it my water room. Yes ideally I would love to have a great big Greenhouse off my house like he has.
Started shrieking as soon as you went into the citrus house and he pointed out his pink lemon!! That is THE wishlist plant for me
This was just so amazing. Michael is quite the character and I can so relate to his post Cov philosophy. Thank you so much for these wonderful videos Summer and a big hello from Mexico.
Something about him reminds me of Robin Williams, I haven’t even finished the garden tour but oh man is it beyond gorgeous.
Summer, thanks for introducing Michael Bowell and his beautiful spirit of loving life while caring for his lovely plants.
What a delightful guy! Loved this episode !!
Such unique greenhouses, not following any trends, just based on the love of plants and flowers. A real indoor garden. Thanks for another great tour!
He puts me to shame in the best way possible!!! I’m just amazed at all of the plants he has, knows and takes care of. And then to find out he also took care of so many types of animals through the years!!! Magnificent! What a glorious home. It must be so wonderful to enjoy a cup of coffee among the orchids in the morning! What a great person!
❤❤❤ all of this madness is my craziness!!! I love orchids, bromeliads, ferns, philo and all of it. and the banana too! Summer, I really love your "TV" should I say. As i always say, I'm still learning all this greens and flowers. I know I can't sleep tonight thinking about plants! ❤❤❤
I luv how he has a story for almost every plant in his collection. This greenhouse is basically his life history in the form of plants.
I look forward to your plant tours, I love the stories and seeing plants that are decades old and still thriving. Your guest are so passionate and inspirational. Thank you for doing this for us.

That upstairs bit is so cool, and the view ~beautiful! Thanks
Summer, Thank you so very much for these beautiful journeys. Each visit to a different place heightens my awareness and appreciation of planet earth and its inhabitants--plants, birds, animals, and the people who love them... and, the special people like you who know and share their names.
i love this man. i enjoy his sense of humor. i kept laughing through out the video. it’s a beautiful space but i can see why people asked to use his space or be there, he has a wonderful personality - the plants aren’t bad either lol
I loved this tour; it felt so personal.
Love this plant tour and his passion. Michael's home is incredibly unique and wonderful.

😭😭Hot tub in the greenhouse
I absolutely love his stories! The connection he has with his plants is amazing. ❤️
I THINK NORTHAMERICAN COLLECTORS ARE BLESSED TO HAVE CENTRAL AND SOUTHAMERICAN BUSHES AND PLANTSHOPS CLOSE THAT THEY CAN ENJOY THE REALLY TROPICAL GARDEN
So beyond belief! I just love it. A plant hoarder's delight. I'm sick with Envy. Thank you, everyone. XOXO
What a wonderful tour ~ Michael comes across as such a fascinating & entertaining person, and what a collection!
Loved this tour. Such a cool guy and loved the plants
What a wonderful tour ! I would feel as if I had died and gone to heaven if I could live in a place like that !!!
When I lived in DE Peppers was my go to place for plants and mental rejuvenation.
What an amazing and wild greenhouse tour pack with variety of beautiful plants.I love and enjoy the tour and the stories behind.
Gloriosa Lily needs a bigger pot and room for tubers to regenerate. Each year the tubers will get larger if there is room. Then the vine will be stronger, bigger & produce larger more abundant blooms. Here in SWFL they will pop up 6" - 18" from the previous. I had to put them in pots to contain & found they didn't thrive as well due to space. The bamboo is a great idea for it to climb but it's probably choking the tubers. Hope this helps Michael
This is freaking amazing
As a crazy orchid enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoyed this video;)
So nice to hear about the trials and tribulations of those working in such a large greenhouse!! It's so cool to learn about how someone with such a prolific collection problem solves, and to know that they fail with their plants too! 🤣
One of my favorites of all time!
Zany and fun tour 🌿
I thoroughly enjoyed the tour! I think the name of the plant that goes from lavender to white is called Brunsfelsia latifolia or Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. Please keep taking us on these wonderful tours. I Iive in the West Indies.
Amazing spaces and the story to go along with the plants is so cool. :)
Woo, J&L Orchids!! Shop from them all the time.
I LOVE THESE TOURS!!!!! His place is fantastic. Truly.
Marvellous episode! Thank you all very much 😍🙏🏼🙏🏼🙋🏻♀️💚❤️
My favourite visit yet!
Michael is incredible! Absolutely loved this tour and the vibe of his place.
I am one of them “Crazy people”. I love orquíds. I am living in South Florida and here is very hot for them. I create a nice environment for them under my fruit trees and they love it. I have so many that I lost track.
If I went into that greenhouse, I would never leave! Michael shared some really neat stories, however I bet those plants could tell us all kinds of stories.
I just love love these videos to start my plant day, thanks so much
I love the indoor decor with all the string lights, very nice!
Oh thank you!! Beautiful
Another awesome video, awkward beginning story tho 😂😂😂 but very nice tour thank you!
Love this tour, Michael is amazing 💚
Always luv your content and your amazing people you interview! Thank you 🙏 Fan doe life.
Such an inspiring tour! 🥹
I bought some variegated Aspidistras from Plant Delights and they finally arrived a couple days ago! I enjoy occasionally browsing their website and if I ever vacation in NC, I hope to be able to go in person.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. I live in hot & humid Singapore & my piper crocatum didn’t like growing indoors. I set it out on my balcony and let it grow up a tension rod about a year ago. It’s almost reaching the ceiling which is about 9 feet tall. The largest leaves are 7 inches long by 5 inches wide and it’s also put out about 5 offshoots. I almost wish it didn’t grow so fast as I’m running out of space
They have spent so much time with Ficus elastica 'Ruby' in the background. Although they did not mention it, if you liked that Rubber Tree with the white and red splotches on the leaves, now you know the name by which to order it. I have seen it offered also under the names "Pink Ruby" and "Ruby Red."
What a wonderful display of love between nature & guardian! I love plants, but I’m unable to have many due to my kitties. It would be wonderful to see an episode on plants that are safe for animals. 😊
THAT is an incredible collection!! 👏
Such a magnificent world
Lovely tour!
This is wonderful. Inspiring me to get orchids!
Another great video, and I was thrilled to find out the name of a ground cover that I have, Centradenia floribunda. I bought this about 9 years ago and absolutely love it. I live in s.e. Florida and this spreads like crazy. How wonderful to visit Michael and his greenhouse(s). He's quite the character and all of the proper names of the plants that you two have is just amazing!!! I love your videos, so much info in each one, such inspiration. Thank you. FlowerLady
Greetings from Costa Rica! I love your very informative videos!
So beautiful 😻
Wow very nice video thank you for sharing 👍👌😍
Wow wow wow !!!!!
Beautiful green house
That phaedranassa tunguraguae is somethin beautiful!
Absolutely he should just be telling stories of his plants as he does basic care. Some of us have no idea of the very specifics of care for some of our plants. And only older gardeners would have the true experiential tips that could help us not give up on plants the don't seem to thrive for us.
Thank you for another inspiring video, with beautiful plants and people!!! As you spoke about it briefly in this video, I would be really interested in the topic of combining plants in a future video! This is for indoor plants but also plants outdoors, as I'm starting a balcony garden with herbs and some veggies. Indoors it's more of a space issue, that's why I often wondered, which plants might share a pot and form a group well. For the outdoors it's about a good harvest of course. Thank you for this great content, as always!!!!
Great tour. thank you!
I love this guy!
Woww always love to see it 😍
maxwell house!The preferred greenhouse coffee
35:41 complicated naming, on internet I find it named Heterocentron elegans (and other names), but in horticulture it is known as Centradenia
Love from Argentina summer ♡
What an absolute Wonderland. I watched it twice. I loved that the glasshouses just went on and on. What plant was that massive root that was tied on to the roof attached to?!
this is the dream🌌
Did Summer actually leave at the end of the tour or just hide in one of the greenhouses and walk around like a happy bunny exploring every corner ? haha I like to think she stayed for a day at least : )
You could have 3 more videos from his houses!
OK for some reason I was too overwhelmed.
Could I ask where you ordered your big boxes of bulbs from please?
Hello is the sand paper vine a fast grower?
What soil medium does he have in the container for his Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum?
