This week on Let's Roll we are playing Quantitative Easing. In this game: Joe, Alfredo, BK, Jack, and Trevor are all bidders attempting to bail out industries that are ""Too big to fail"". Having played this once, what Fredo did 10m in can actually be a strategy. Everyone else had locked in "500 per point on the card" as the default... so you buy out a bunch of stuff for substantially more. Then you put EXORBITANT amounts in the last rounds. Opponents who know they are behind on points will *need* to buy that and hope someone else passes them on debt. And since the last rounds have costs that dwarf the earlier ones, your overpaying early on becomes insignificant. You end up having won tons of early points and have less debt than opponents.

    Yeah, it may seem like Fredo was just playing wild, but he forced everyone else (except for Trevor) to bid extra high to be able to get some properties. And without Joe's (and initially Trevor's) final bid, BK would've been the highest bidder and Fredo would've won. I forget sometimes that he's one of the best AH members when it comes to strategy, especially when it comes to tricking other people to overplay their hands in order to try to beat him.

    If you guys like this premise, I recommend High Society. It's similar in that you have to bid for points, but it has a limit on how much money you can spend and the denominations that you can spend it in since you have a limited number of bills. Also, bidding continues until everyone passes. Additionally, there are some bad stuff that everybody pays to not get and only the first person to pass has to take. It essentially adds a game of chicken into the mix. Big fun.

    I think that's more how the game should be played and I like how Fredo made people start bidding more like that. Joe's final bid was funny, but it would've been cool to have seen things play out differently.

    If you just win every tiles by increasing the value by double every time, then the only way for an opponent to get any points is to go over that double... which means he immediately has more debt than you. Once that happens, you change your strategy depending on the situation. If you already have half the tiles, you can pretty much let others win the rest.

  • @nickdumas2495

    @nickdumas2495

    You can't simply do that, because the bids are secret, and your friends ought to have some intelligence.

  • @KuroroSama42

    @KuroroSama42

    Жыл бұрын

    @@nickdumas2495 Exactly: The bids are secret. Only the auctioneer would know what you put, so it would take a number of turns for them to realize what you're doing. That means the "once that happens" happens late enough for you to already have a huge mass of points. Also, you can change it up a bit - instead of just doubling every time, do x10 or something some times.

  • @KuroroSama42
    @KuroroSama42 Жыл бұрын

    16:30 "Just stay under him and he loses all his points" - true, but if the values keep growing, then the people with fewer points will never get more and lose anyways... hence why Fredo's strategy can work. "And then we'll just be fighting amongst us peons." Not really... if Fredo gets every other tile, your fight was over on round 1.

My comment still stands if the player in question "spent" 100$ or a million. The amount that they "spend" is irrelevant, obviously the point is to punish someone for trying to write 1 billion everytime, but it also punishes someone for being "lucky" which i generally dislike in games. If theres an aspect of your game mechanics that requires luck it should be rewarding not detrimental.
