A better Walksnail Avatar HD Goggles X?

On this video, I conducted a durability test of the "improved version" of the Walksnail Avatar HD Goggles X. We will discuss some key changes from the existing version of the Goggles X, and also share with you the results of the test. I did a two-hour test on the goggles at 30-32C ambient to see how the revised goggles will stick to what it claimed to be. Did it really improve?
TEST CONDITIONS:
Ambient temp : 30-32C
Goggles recording: yes
Data collection : every 30mins
Firmware on Goggles X : 37.42.1 (originally 36.42.4)
Goggles voltage input: 4s 2200mah
Proximity sensor: disabled
HDMI out connected to Monitor
Vtx unit: 1S vtx (with cooling fan)
NOTE:
This was conducted to confirm whether or not it is true that the "improved" version is really improved. The results of the test are straight from the data that I obtained from the 2 hour test, no altering of information. The DATA DOES NOT LIE about the performance. If you want to verify it, feel free to conduct the test. Should you need the recording files from the Goggles X that I obtained during the test, I can send it to you as proof as well.

Noob here with Goggles X and an Avatar HD Pro Kit (dual antenna)... what antennas (if any) do you recommend for both the VTX and/or the Goggles? Thank you!

Vtx antenna are not that bad. What you would want to replace are those on the goggles. Put a good patch on it (e.g. truerc x-air/x2-air/x-ray), and some good omnis on the top ports (e.g. truerc singularity, lumenier axii2 long)

Hi there. Thanks for the video. My Goggles X have the issue with the overheating, but they also have the issue with the right screen displaying flickering lines. The flickering screen happens when I move the right IPD knob inwards from the right edge. So I can't have the IPD spacing set to how I want. Are you, or anyone else, getting this issue with the flickering on the right screen?

Your goggles is from new batch? I don't have flickering issue. I did move the right IPD inwards to get a better fit but didn't have issues

@@windfpv Thanks for the reply. I have been talking to the shop I bought them from and will be sending them back today. I hope they send me a replacement soon, as this is obviously a defect.

Yeah, if you will be able to get one from new batch then it should be good unit
So does the heat sink come pre installed? And if not can you use thermal paste to help with heat dissipation?

I got the Dec 2023 batch. Someone mentioned that the Jan 2024 got the black heatsink pre installed now. For sure it will help with heat dissipation. Planning to put my heatsink to do the tests again. Although my goggles don't have overheating issues, I just wanted to check how much decrease in temperature will that upgraded heatsink give

@@windfpv I got my Goggles X few days ago. Jan 2024 batch with new black heat sink preinstalled. Haven't done any hard tests but they work fine. No overheat problem

It's nice that they still included the black heatsink. It seems to me that it's Caddx wants to avoid any overheating issues in the future thus they still installed the black heatsink. Although as Caddx informed me the batch I got and future batches won't really need the black heatsink, but they still provided it just in case. Good to know that they installed it from factory on newer batches.
The 2024/01 has the heatsink preinstalled

Yes.. the silver one is barely something I would call a heatsink

Actually they also provided the black heatsink with my goggles, but not installed. They told me i won't need it, but still provided it 😁 although after my tests, the goggles OLED were totally fine even at elevated temperatures for 2 hours run, I saw that I didn't need to use the black heatsink. I guess caddx is just being a little careful now that they got the black heatsink installed for "just in case" situations 😉

I thought the improved version of the Walksnail goggles X is coming out in August 2024???

Yes the major upgrade still to come out by August yet. That's promised to have newer rf board.
Imma Wait for the new heatsink to be applied as deafult. then i'll buy them

New heatsink is applied at default in batch Jan 2024 as confirmed by Caddx and those who just bought recently. 😊 I'm going to install the black heatsink that caddx included too and see how much more the temperatures will get reduced in my goggles X

Edit: caddx also confirmed this information about the heatsink getting installed from factory on Jan 2024 and newer batches
