On your wood trim problem, I think a brad nailer would work perfect. I bought one for my 18 volt Ryobi battery system. I use that thing all the time. It will punch thru the aluminum studs and holds very well.

How about instead of taking the step out, you move it back and turn it in the hallway towards the kitchen? Then it's put of the way, and you can get in and access the bath and bedroom.

My thoughts exactly, put some felt underneath them to prevent scratching, hop up when they are out of the way and secure them safely with furniture blankets to protect the interior.

Can the unit be unpinned when deployed? Thereby removing the need to heave it into and out of the stored position.

Yes, someone could unpin it before putting the unit in storage with the assumption that it would still require quite some effort to remove and reinstall, especially if you need to get into your RV.

I’d personally love to have the removable steps. I can’t get in our 5th wheel when someone is parked next to us. To load it we have to hook up and pull forward, and then we’re able to load it. I’m also 22 years old and I’m not a little guy. 80 pounds to me and 80 pounds to a retired couple is completely different.

I appreciate that they're thinking about the different situations we may run into. This doesn't seem real practical. We had to park next to a curb one night and it made getting in and out very difficult, but I don't know that removing the steps would have helped.

My $0.02 on what I saw was that they did a great job of making a solid step system removable. Moving 80lbs around when its already above waist height is never going to be an easy job and after seeing the thumb nail of the video I thought you were going to have much more of a PITA. Still a great video. (As always).

As always great information. I totally agree. I have a bad should and could not tempt those stairs. I think 2 people would get in each other’s way. Maybe add some kind of locking hinges in the middle of the stairs?? Just brainstorming. Thanks again JD for your information.

Glow steps don't drip all over your floor, when they are put away wet. Also, I doubt that the trim piece is "wood" most likely MDF

Yes sir, I am facing this dilemma currently as my neighbor's RV is a mere 3-4 feet from mine while in covered storage. I did remove the double strut assist as one of the bolts sheared off, and they are not too terribly heavy to lift up and into place for travel. With the struts and cover gone, there is now a very small but unsightly section of raw floor exposed, so I am going to install the fire extinguisher there to cover it, much like yours. We love the steps, so I need to figure something out which does not include having to hook up and pull the 5ver about 10 feet forward to gain access.

We’re getting closer and closer to the head shot. 🤣😂

For the trim, the stapler they use is a 22 guage narrow crown A/D upholstery stapler. It'll set you back around $200 and $50 for a box of staples. I've used 18 gauge narrow crown but they leave a biggest hole.

Great video! I've wondered how easy or difficult it would be to remove that step system. Our new Reflection is coming with the traditional fold out stair system. However, the bottom stair has adjustable legs that make contact with the ground for stability! I'm thinking that will work perfectly for us!

Your Trim - assuming that is real wood, wood does not expand (Move) very much at all with the grain - it moved across the grain. I would be surprised in the grain didn't run along the height of that trim. more likely issue is it was cut a wee bit long at the factory and was simply under pressure. OR, maybe the floor has expanded pushing the trim into a tension mode making it bow. Either way, trimming it about 1/6" would g o a long way in solving the issue. The more I think about it moisture in the floor causing the floor to get thicker is the most likely culprit. FWIW, I am a wood guy...

While that entry ladder is technically removable, and you demonstrated that capability, most people are not going to bother with it due to the awkward nature of its operation and lack of convenience. The design still needs to evolve into something better.

I don’t think that they intended for the steps to come off all the time, just when it’s going into storage, also they probably expect 2 people to be doing that, one person inside and one person out. Realistically, if you’re taking it off at a storage facility, you’re going to put inside the RV where it will live while you’re gone, and you use a temporary step to get in and out. That will reduce the amount of lifting required. When it’s at your home or campsite, there’s little reason to remove it. Most folks will likely only take the trailer out a couple of times a season, and unlikely to pull it out every trip, they’ll just prepare it for temporary storage and then run it over to storage. so I don’t see it as a major inconvenience, However could it be better? yes, but it does what it sets out to do.

Don't think to much. I had the same issue. I simply cut a little off the bottom, glued and added a few nails. Just like brand new. 😁

2 thing's come to mind. I stick with some of my earlier posts about what the difference is when you cross a certain price point. For example the exquisite fit and finish of the beacon. Point 2 is LCI is always problematic. TD

There is a piece of rubber sticking out from the trim on the bottom of door frame!?

If you drilled a oversized or slotted holes as stress relief, then put a cosmetic washer and smaller diameter screw in, the holes. Then as long as it’s not trapped against the floor or the upper portion, ie it’s floating and allowing it to move as it expands or contracts.

We have the same issue on our door trim. I wonder if the frame of the trailer doesn’t flex while driving and cause that to be tight. I’m going to take a small cut off the bottom of ours so it has some play. While I have it off going to put some foam behind it since I can see light out

Double check all your other trim . If it happens in one place , suspect all other trim so you can fix it once.

Like the stairs, just not the debris that collects every time you close them. Other problem is the door seal on the bottom. That is why I don't have one. Great video, tripod and all..

That looks like more struggle than it's worth.. but if you have no other choice then at least you can get access.. I'm lucky enough to store our camper at home with plenty of room for the steps. But I'd love to have those spring loaded pins on the leg extension! Our current gen solid step is great all except for trying to line up the pins In the legs! My wife is usually the one to put the steps down when we get to the destination and HATES that part lol

E6000 tack glue for the trim. (Amazon) removable by peeling. Doesn’t harm surfaces. The ladder sux. I’ll stick with not parking that close. Where did you get that bottom screen on the door? We so need that or maybe a plastic window. Damn cats. 2021 Rockwood 2442bs.

Trim the bottom of that door trim and it will be fine. I have done that to my door trim and have not had an issue since.

Kind of not related to the steps but what is your thoughts on the wind wiggling the door and the friction hinges either wearing out or something cracking? I bought a couple suction cups with straps and clips (from Amazon) to stick to the door and camper to hold it steady.

I would love to be able to remove ours. We part in storage so tight that we can't get into it. It would be really nice if we could get to the bath and bedroom....

Looking at that rig, the doorway is over the wheels. Those are the only stair setups that will work there.

We have a seasonal site and pull in and out. We have a small porch with steps that we can move when we pull out. I think these are no worse than the steps for the toy hauler ramp. I would love to have a set.

Off topic question but for a half ton pickup i've heard you say you don't recommend towing trailers that are greater than 30'. Is that tip to tip 30' or box length 30'?

Did you replace your handrail? If so, where did you get it?

I think the newer with these removable steps in a tight storage yard is to remove them put them to 1 side and them use some kind of small step ladder to enter the RV else it will be difficult to maneuver with out hitting the RV or someone else’s RV.

Talking about how the trim piece separated from the wall. I noticed that the stop for the step when folded up hits that part of the trim. Could this be what is causing the trim to separate?

Somehow I never pictured you with a beard. That just looks to cumbersome for 95% of the RVers.

Steps might need a little improvement, still a bunch better than the old pull out steps. And it's not like it would be something that would have to do all the time. Agreed it might be a challenge for an older camper or a physically challenged person. As with all new items, it may need to evolve a little. Basically sounds as if you've got a prototype and could change a little.

Your lucky you got 4 steps. We have a Chapparel and we only got three steps

I was surprise the hinge is just to little rods that are only an inch long each. It looks to me that is those springs fail and one is already messed up, that the pins could vibrate out of the holes and then when you go to put the stairs down they could twist out and become damaged.

What model is the Makita vacuum that you use?

My question since day one has been, after you remove the steps, are you suppose to hoist yourself up thru the elevated door hole? That also seems less than ideal.

Wood should not expand too much in the direction you mentioned. Wood typical expands in width not the length. I'm wondering is there is adhesive behind it that let loose.

It's probably pressboard or glued saw dust moisture will make it go almost anyway it wants pay off last resistance

Is door frame square? Is the wall square or deflecting?

Put a level on the wall next to the trim.

We've had our Solid steps for 2 years. Never had to remove them.

Not a fan of these steps. Like most people complain about is the fact in close quarters you can't lower them to gain access to the inside. I also don't like the fact they bring in all kinds of dirt, mud or water if it's been raining or is currently raining.

The stairs are a Great idea but not sure if it’s practical for everyday use.

Wait the tripod is back?! Btw I would like to know how they can fix it because to keep the stability and weight capacity it has to be heavy. I do like that you can take it out fairly easy.

Overall we’ve been pretty happy fixing all the defects..... that should’ve been fixed from the manufacturer....... lmao ! Think of all the Money you saved ! The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten.

I understand your need to possibly remove them when under cover and closer to other units, but it looks like it would be easier to remove in the down position. But that's just me watching a video and not there trying to remove them. Nice unit by the way.

Why would you take it out very often? Would be nice if you used it at a seasonal spot with a deck, but occasionally wanted to pull it elsewhere and put the steps back in. My TT has 2 doors, the main has the solid step, the back bathroom door the old basic flip out step under the door. I use that one for quick access when it is in our driveway as I can pull myself up and in without pulling out the steps.

I just use cinder blocks works great

How about sliding inside instead of lifting it out?? Then you a step stool to climb into the camper?

Does the tire cover where the slide closes down catch the wind

Being realistic, how often would you remove the steps? Half a dozen times or less in a year? Not to bad for the occasional use.

If you are parked very close to the RV in storage, you would have to release the steps in the up position as you would not be able to fold them out without hitting the RV next to yours.

I would find a different storage facility!

Never have been a fan of that style of step just for the issues you listed but you don’t have another choice since your door is over the tire 🧐

Why dont you take it off while it's deployed? It would be nice if it had small casters.

I'm not too worried. Nothing I'm doing in this video will void my warranty.

My hope is the manufacturer is also watching these videos and will start to care about the products they build. It is absolutely unacceptable that a brand new product that you spend 10’s of thousands on continues to have so many issues. If they cared about their products they’d build them to last.

Remember when you were asking about what people consider being junk? Trim coming apart or loose like this is included in that category. You comment about the trim being ‘RV stuff’ is faint praise indeed. I for one am not interested in having to deal with this type of stuff constantly needing to be attended to throughout the trailer. This is a high traffic area. So these pieces are going to be constantly being touched, grabbed, brushed up against and snagged while people are entering and leaving. This is not a good indication that the industry is still not paying attention to these issues.

They all come with something wrong from the factory.

The whole thing needs to be made of aluminum.

This defeats the purpose of what you are trying to show in regards to someone parked next to you but can you pull those pins while they are deployed and tilt them out on their legs so you are not lifting the full weight of them?
