David's dog in the background really stole the show
I built myself a 5 by 14 ortholinear and it's the perfect balance of basically a 65% layout but more comfortable while not being a pain to switch too and from. Absolutely love it
Chord typing is optimal. Fingers stay on one key. Thumb moves between two keys frequently, and the third rarely. No RSI issues. Once you learn it, you can FLY. I first saw this idea in the 70s.
David - buy a big pack of velcro ties and individually wrap each of your cables. It's a big one time job but every time after when you need to take your cables out of their bag you'll see that the effort was so unbelievably worth it!
Glad to see my boy David back at Verge 😄
Fill'em with vim and vigor
For normal typing, my favourite hack is to make long pressing a letter return a capital, without needing to use shift.
Dactyl Manuform Gang rise up!!! I 3D printed my own. And, yes I do use Vim and Arch, BTW.
Thumbs up for the dog !!
Trying to describe a kb layout is probably a visual concept not suited for the podcast format lol
How much do you have to be absorbed in your work to customize such a bespoke keyboard & layout at the expense of familiarity with standards. We are overly obsessed with productivity...

It turns out that most people who learn alternative layouts don't lose their proficiency with other layouts they have learned. If you spent a decade on QWERTY, it's almost impossible to lose that muscle memory

people who create things for a living, and do so for a long time often end up adapting their tools to their needs.
Maybe I’m a weird oldhead…but I have no care to change my keyboard layout. I love customization on mechanical keyboards, but don’t mess with my QWERTY
Bro, that's just a Hitbox at this point
VIM??????
Or you can just not click on the video that "The Vergecast" in the title

Don’t take any advices from a person who uses Vim…
Has the verge fired an editor. Video quality is deteriorating massively. (Specifically pacing) If this is just reposting a podcast and fulfilling a word count by having 3 successive introductions it doesn’t need to be uploaded to KZread
