My grandfather had one in gray, and I remember driving in it as a little kid. Honestly so amazing to see it still on the road. People talk crap. But Mercedes has made some amazing reliable vehicles in its life as a auto maker

Money pit? Have you ever owned one? Typical trash talk, almost always from people who can’t afford them. I’ve owned MBZ all my life, presently own five of them. I’ve never had a ‘money pit’. This car will last 500,000 miles minimum with routine maintenance from someone who appreciates and respects this awesome machine

@@SavedbyHim if you call W123 300D absolute snail you obviously haven't driven W123 200D (for European market) ! That car was like slow motion video BUT it had some of MB's most recognizable, or should i say, iconic features... It could hit the BigBadDeep afterwinter hole in the road or horizontal speed bump or sidewalk border and act just like a boat rather than a car, it could really "swallow" it. It could also literally "break" its front wheels on full left or right position of steering wheel like no other car on the earth, those vehicles engines could hit 1.500.000 kilometers without any intervention inside the engine, just oil, filters and brakes. W124 and W140 were in my opinion last original German quality MB's, they were made like hybrid's between tank and passenger car. This kind of quality is nowadays sold only in high premium segment and is not meant to last like old MB's cars. Even premium cars are "programmed" to end lifecycle in ten years, doesn't matter driven or not.

I had a 1982 300SD with a few hundred thousand miles. I loved that car!!!!! Used to adjust the valves myself. Million mile engine. I miss it so much. Rode like a dream. Mercedes built great cars back then. Too many electronics now. 240d, 300d, 300sd, and the SEL extra long S class were all awesome.

My father still owns one of these and its in pretty good condition as well ~ These cars were built very well, true German quality

One of the best W 126's I have seen. Absolutely amazing, nothing really lasts like these Mercs from the 70s,80s and 90s.....

No. TD is the wagon (estate, shooting brake) and it’s a diesel. SD is Sonderclasse, D is diesel. The diesel engines were not called, “D”, but OM (Oil Motor).

That was a gorgeous car. Hard to imagine one that only had that many miles. I don't think I could have put it on the road as a everyday car to drive. I would only bring it out every now and then.

Because the new ones have a bunch of electronics, cheap screens and black glossy plastics. This is a timeless classic that is very simple to maintain.

This was a real car made right. Merry Christmas!

This was one of my friends first cars he bought for like 1200 dollars in 2004, we fixed it back up to work and he would drive it around without a license since were like 14 - 15. We were constantly working on it, worth it tho. Good times.

Together with the Citroen 25 TRD Turbo this used to be the fastest diesel available on the market. No idea why YT suggested this video to me but what a pleasure to see.

Awesome blast from the past! My neighbor had one back in the day and put 300,000 carefree miles on it.

Gorgeous car! W126 was the most popular and longest S class Mercedes Benz in history, including an update for 1986 on. Best built, REAL steel frame and body, titanium passenger cage. Drives like the wind, solid 2 ton tank, saved my life and many others. Too bad Mercedes Benz Germany doesn't respect them

Oh yeah, and I believe it was Top Gear who declared that generation of 300D to be the best car ever made in the world, and this example is probably the best example in existence. So what does that make this car? Priceless beyond priceless. If I had a million dollars, I would pay that for it. It IS THE best example of the best car ever made. How can you top that? You can’t.

My parents and I had several MB in the past (i'm Belgium). They were outstanding reliable vehicles. Their parys also were ridiculous cheap. I regret not having kept my dad's 190 2.5-16v. I sold it presteen to the dealer.

Dem' old MB's were built like tanks.

There is a model just like this one here in Rio de Janeiro, the owner brought it walking. In case I'm not mistaken, it went from Maryland to Chile and then to Rio de Janeiro. This happened in the 90's, I also brought a vw Fox by ship to Chile that here in Brazil is called Voyage and then from Chile to Brazil by land.

I learned my lesson, never believe a second-hand car salesmen!! I was sold a 15k R107 and later on i found a service receipt for the 40k service.

Only downside in those older MB cars are all of the vacuum lines they use to control everything. Nowadays it is all electronically controlled. Other than that, these are as solid as Sherman Tanks. That thing is beautiful 😍

I love green cars. I would pay serious money for this car. Such a nice vehicle. These old cars are so simple and reliable.

My Dad had a 1985 300SD from 1990-2004 with 285k miles when he sold it. Its 2020 now and he's looking for another one. Suchna boss car.

Extraordinary ❗ I have seen W123 300D and 200D(or 240 unsure now) models with lower mileage though. Factory plastic-cover still over the seats. First service reminder still on the key (with rubberband). Below 30 miles(50 kilometers) on the clock. Anyway, those were W123 and what you have here are the dreams of many. 👍🏻

THIS IS A GREAT CAR. I OWNED A 1984 300 SD AND A 1991 300 SE. THE 126 CHASSIS IS THE BEST. I STILL HAVE THE 1991 300 SE AND IT IS IN FANTASTIC SHAPE INSIDE AND OUT.....LOVE DRIVING IT OCCASIONALLY.

The entire replica kit ontop of the gas power unit or in some instances Dsel fluid is only neccesary to power certain key components within the power unit to drive train. lets say upper carberator unit for the benz operates at 125 psi of Liquid gas power however semiconductor a-b-c,d,e,f,g, alternating currents, you could remove everything and replace with a cng tank and a bleed line for each. depending on the internals if you want to switch it out and personalize

I use to own a 1987 300SDL Turbo, great car. Had it since new.

80s was Mercedes’ golden era. Those things will literally go five times around the clock. That will be the 5 cyl Diesel: not quick but bomb proof. Now the Mercedes range is huge, all bling but no overengineering and bombproof reliability anymore.

My father had one from the late 70’s/early 80’s that had a Turbocharged diesel engine. He ran it on a ~4:1 ratio of used restaurant cooking oil to petroleum diesel fuel. It never stopped running. He got about 700,000 miles out of it and never had to work on the engine or transmission. Only reason he got rid of it was because everything else started breaking down. Wish he kept it for me.

I was in an old Mercedes w124 And the taxi drivers were 2 brothers Done split shifts the night and day Shift it had achieved 2 million 380 thousand miles and I gave dealt In many car sales it looked and felt Like a car of with 80.000 miles That's such a testimonial I bought a w124 320e but it had only One owner garaged all its life a legacy sale with only 75000 miles I don't need to sell it don't think I ever will it's like sitting on your couch Watching the road come at you on big screen

You are right. The W126, 124 and 201 were glorious quality. But a 126 with the Diesel and automatic transmission might be a bit boring.

If it is legs you want, please come to Thailand. Here we have beautiful legs and kind hearts.

I had one in Florida. The ac is weak because it’s just how it was built back in the days. And on the cold days, in winter time, especially if you would have some snow outside, you most likely can’t start it. You have to plug it in, for about an hour and it will warm up the entire engine area. So it’s not “of course it’s starts up every single time “…….. especially not diesel
