I do plan to test this ammo in shorter barrels, like just try the .38 Special in my 2" Taurus 605 and the 9mm in my 3" DB9 or 3.2" Taurus G2C. Once in a great while you get ammo that doesn't like some barrels so even if you get good velocity, the bullet might not stabilize correctly and not impact the target straight. It's possible that happened here and gave potentially worse performance than a shorter barrel. Probably not, but it's possible. Good enough of an excuse to justify more tests with it.

@@wolverinegnr Consistently it's been the Hornady Critical Defense 110 gr+P, but also the Federal Hydrashok Deep does really really well. There's a lot of various loads that do well but they often have negatives like too much recoil, if lead bullets too much smoke. The Hornady Critical Defense from a 2" barrel seems to do well most of the time, and I have tested it a lot. The standard pressure or light version don't do very well at all in a snub.

Interesting as you said, most of my revolvers are 357-Magnum, and in the defence dept, I use the Remington 125gr SJHP, In the 9mm, all defence rounds are +P or +P+ with one exception being the Hornady 115gr C.D. Thanks for posting, have a safe weekend.🇺🇸

I been keeping the Federal 9BPLE +P+ is my M&P pistol. I am getting to the point of studying ballistics and information, testing etc that I feel like it's the only way to go for a defensive 9mm in a larger pistol.

With Fiocchi, you may get ammo made in their USA plant or Italy. And, their USA ammo is often made from Italian components. So, you never really know what you're going to get. I do love their ammo, but carry Federal HST. 🤠

Reminds me of Magtech. It's decent, but defensive wise I don't like it that much. HST, Gold Dot or Win Ranger for me. Anything with the blue primer seal is what goes in my carry guns.

Thanks. It's one of those things that seem difficult, but once you do it a lot it's really not. Usually not a lot different than say, shooting a coin sized target at maybe 5 yards. Same thing, just as easy. The only time when it's not is when really funky exterior ballistics happen like a .38 wadcutter dropping like a stone over distance or a round that is so fast it will impact 2 feet lower than other ammo, stuff like that.

I watched one of your old videos on deiseling pellets what you should try is the hand gel we all was using for covid and vaseline together the gel is like a explosive charge and try putting a theoben gas ram in your rifle for the 30 cal get a .22 makes it a lot quieter and more powerful should be getting 1100 fps you may need to alter the ram length depending on your rifle not hard to do but well worth it 😀

I still carry a 340PD in a pocket holster instead of any of the 9MM offerings b/c they’re lighter & easier to conceal. It’s something I can always have with me where most 9MM will need to be on a belt or in a shoulder holster, limiting how I can dress.

If the ammo is cheap, it's fine. At least in this test. I would probably pass on it for short barrels. The thing with cheap ammo, if it is so-so, you can at least practice with what you carry. Although I would like a bit more heat or better bullet design. For revolver, I'm rather sold on SJHP designs with soft lead and large HP cavities. If only the solid copper bullets from Barnes weren't so expensive!

@GunSam Thanks for your informative work and please keep the long distance segments. For those shooting situations where it's Friday the 13th, you've broken a mirror, walked under a ladder and have a herd of black cats cross your path, the long range information is interesting and might prove useful.

  • @GunSam

With stuff like .357 Sig or .357 Magnum, I think plain brass can have some advantages as the pressure and power is high enough to crack case mouths if they are nickel plated. With 9mm or .40 S&W or .38 Special, I do prefer nickel.

Yeah I get a lot of people flipping out over ammo costs and who refuse to buy like, HST or Gold Dot or something decent, just to save money. When most guns only hold 15 rounds and you have to pay $1 for each round instead of cheaper .70 cents a round, to me it makes the least sense to skimp on something like that. That's like $4 more...But I guess if people want to save that little money and gamble on their lives, they can play stupid games and win stupid prizes.
