Grey wasn’t recording the beginning (obviously), his sound comes from Myke’s backup recording over Skype. The audio clears up after the beginning.

Thought Grey broke his microphone for the first 15 minutes, Though having listened to the whole exchange Myke and Grey had... I'm not sure that my first inclination was that far off.

Grey's audio has never sounded worse than in this very episode of Cortex.
