    If these Bosch units heat down to 5° outside air the gas burner will never come on in most cases. Just installed the 5t light system in my son’s house. He had 100° at register’s on a 15° morning. Game changer.

    Our 26 year old Goodman heat pump is still hanging in there. 😀. I have considered going with this type of dual unit when this one goes down.

    Goodman announced a recall on their plastic drain pans in their coils. Apparently, the melting drain pan only happens with the Goodman high efficiency horizontal up flow furnaces. I believe the high efficiency furnaces cause the issue because the burners are located at the top of the furnace next to the coil. The burners on the Goodman 80% furnace are located lower in the furnace, further away from the coil drain pan.

    Very informative. Just bought a house with a Bosch 5 ton heat pump with oil back up running though a Bock Oil burner/Water heater. How would you recommend it be set up? 2900Sq ft house....it would seem the heat pump could easily handle entire home with little help from aux oil especially in southern Virginia. Oil usage data says otherwise. Thanks!

    Yes, I would definitely run it as much as possible. If you set your thermostat up at the set point of switch over to about between 30*~35* this will make your Bosch run more I have heard these units still can produce heat when it’s in the teens, not as efficient tho.

    How old is your furnace? I have an older Carrier 58MTA two stage furnace from 2004. Runs perfectly. I just had a contractor say it wasn’t worth installing the Bosch IDS heat pump unless I replaced my furnace also. I haven’t read or seen anything online that would back him up. Is he right?

    Carriers are known for their secondary heat exchanger to fail. But if it has a Variable speed motor on it? You should be good I would not put on a bosch if it had a PSC motor. The unit is 19 years old. mechanical equipment usually last 15-18 years. So you are getting to the tail end of its life. If you are going to upgrade, it would probably make sense to do the whole system.

    Question, When you did initial set up. You made the thermostat control it and not the appliance. Why?

  • @ADVANHVAC

    @ADVANHVAC

    6 ай бұрын

    Because this is a forced air furnace. If you looked closely at the option it said if you have a boiler you would let the appliance control the blower. When you have a boiler and your using a heating coil you would want the appliance to control the blower to move the air across it.

    Does defrost cycle turn gas burning on to warm the house or just supplying cold air to the house?

    That’s great that the unit only runs 10 amps. So realistically you could run that outdoor condenser of off a 14/2 cable and be totally fine. By chance do you remember the minimum circuit ampacity requirement for that unit?

  • @ADVANHVAC

    @ADVANHVAC

    Max fuse is 40amp Min circuit 24.8 so I would roll with a 30amp 14 gauge wire would be a little dicey. So possibly yes if this was set up as a 2 or a 2-1/2 Ton you might be able to get away with that.

  • @everythinghomerepair1747

    @everythinghomerepair1747

    @@ADVANHVAC yes oh course I wouldn’t violate what the manufacturer says is the minimum circuit size. I agree a 10 gauge wire would be appropriate wire for this unit. I was just saying that it’s interesting that theoretically if the unit is drawing 10 amps a 14 gauge wire would safely power it.

    @@ADVANHVAC It's disappointing that only a couple of the Bosch matchups are "cold climate" rated, but the next generation coming out this year will all be cold climate heat pumps. No need for backup except for defrost cycles and breakdowns.

    why in the hell would you not wire 2 stage, your missing out badly on comfort that Bosch can bring, even if the furnace is single stage add a relay for 2 stage fan, its easy

    So maybe I’m missing something here? The Bosch INVERTER Heat pump is not two stage. It’s 100% modulating, and I guess the only thing they would be missing out would be when it came to the 2nd stage at the board on the furnace which would make the blower on the furnace ramp up to a higher speed correct? Not the Bosch itself because that is controlled by the board on the Bosch.

  • @Gutter-Snipe

    @Gutter-Snipe

    9 ай бұрын

    Kinda of correct, with out hooking up Y2 and Y 1 on the furnace your missing matching the need of the home more closely. The Bosch is modulating and takes its good old time getting there, but the thing communicates through temperature and pressure of the suction line. it seeks to maintain 47 degree indoor coil temp no matter what,,, so slow the indoor fan down the out door slows down to maintain that temp, if the need is higher the stat brings on high Fan and evaporates more refrigerant and the outdoor responds in kind.@@ADVANHVAC
