I've got a 91 Capri XR2 with 51,000 miles.. it's actually a blast to drive around! People always ask about it!
The back seat in the 1991 Capri was helpful in lower car insurance compared to the 2-seat MX-5 Miata.
I have a 1991 and I love it. It’s great around town and in the summer it’s a dream. Only one thing wrong with it and that’s the roof it’s not made very well I have 2 new ones.
I own one of these in Germany imported from Australia. I really love it as it is something special everyone is gonna asking for details. A Miata is just a "regular" car here. Thanks for the great review!

Right on
Drove one of these and ended getting a 86 323 (GLC) instead. It was a better car in every way. Well the DOHC would have been nice. Anyway the Protege lx that mazda was making at this time had a very nice 1.8 DOHC and a good front sub frame. It would have been hard to justify all of the quirks that this car had and were easily found in just one test drive.
I have 1 and I like it a lot
Thanks for another great reaction video, bringing back some 90s memories for me as well.

Glad you enjoyed it
I have two of them. One with hard top one without. Both base models. Pretty darn fast and the handling is great. Hey Miata try that in the winter time. At least I can go get groceries with mine.

LOL. :)
I had a Capri not the xr2 I didn't not like it cause it ran okay it was the control's for the heat the arm so you can get heat was broken but luckily took it to a shop that could fix it cause said no parts available but I didn't like the top cause if top was down can't just stop and put the top up unlike can in the bug cause of being in the boot and need key to open it would have rather had a GTA convertible
Ive had 3 of em..not too many problems at all their kinda cute , everyone ask me what it is..
This Mercury Capri should have gotten antilock brakes at least as an option. The 1994 version did get dual airbags but optional antilock brakes would have made it better.
The 1.6 dohc was the same as the initial years of the Miata before it got a 1.8. But the Miata was 116 hp naturally aspirated.

There is a difference in how much power an engine has in a FWD vehicle compared to a RWD vehicle with the same engine. Also, the XR2's turbo engine was only available with a manual transmission. Not for me. I believe that turbo motor was also available in the 1989 Mazda 323GTX performance 2-door hatchback. Same horsepower numbers.
love mine but parts getting hard to get

any tips or sources? i just picked one up
The American Brands are interested in cutting costs and increasing profits, more than the quality/reliability.
Just like the Cougar, the Capri was a failure

Both cars were failures because Mercury couldn't sell sporty cars very well. It was always an issue.

@@davinp The Mercury Cougar I'm referring to is the 1999-2003 version which was based on the Ford Contour. That was a dismal failure. The previous Cougars that were based on either the Mustang or the Thunderbird were much better cars.
This was a overly-optimistic review by Motorweek, in my opinion. This Capri was nothing more than a half-baked attempt to make a cheaper Miata knock-off. This was the answer to a question absolutely no one was asking…to suggest there was a market for this car had me shaking my head.
The car was plain ugly hence the disappointing sales. Could of should of well all auto manufacturers have one of or several of these
