...which is all well and good for a minor abrasion or minor ailment, but please, don't turn this channel into some smelly hippie "don't need no western medicine I gots plants" channel. There are enough of those lunatics who garden and also run "homesteads." (See: retreatists / shut-ins.) Seriously, one of them had a serious problem with her liver and her doctor was trying to do a differential diagnosis. This is where the doctor tries to rule things out and asks the patient to go off all medications not prescribed. And this homesteader mentions how she's "taking thistle." A simple google search of "liver problems" + "thistle" returned a scad of pages urging people not to ingest that herb due to possible *liver failure* . Let's just see our doctor for anything beyond "mild irritation," okay folks? Hundreds of years of research into chemical compounds of plants in search of medicines wiped out by some home-schooled twit pedaling thistle for some stupid (unscientific and unproven) "remedy."

This was the first season I had Calendula in my garden and I L O V E D it! It could not be easier to grow, I grew from seed directly in the garden bed in late May. I swear every seed germinated, I easily transplanted them and had gorgeous color in the garden through til mid November in Cleveland, Ohio zone 6B. After watching your video, thinking I’ll sow some in a pot too next year, already ordered some different colored seed for next season.

The chamomile is good and has a bit better flavor than the calendula but the calendula is the one that really seals the deal and heals the sickest and most tender stomach. I just add a little bit of honey to it. It's got a little bit of a natural sweetness on it's own. 😋❤

@@Bamboo4U2 Don't take my word for it... I dated an herbologist who owned an herb store many years ago. Calendula was his main go to for ppl with stomach flu or bugs. Here's what I found, quickly, on the web. www.mountainmels.com/blogs/news/supporting-gut-health Calendula (Calendula officinalis) Calendula, calendula! One of my personal favorites for many reasons. However, for the purpose of this post we will focus on the benefits calendula provides for the gut! Calendula can improve digestion and absorption, reduce inflammation in the gut wall, detoxify the body from pathogens, help fight amoebic infections and worms and help to heal pelvic and bowel infections. It’s very diverse, gentle, and effective for clearing the gut and helping to heal your damaged gut wall!

My goto flowers to start from seed are calendula, cosmos, marigold and corn marigold. They're all super easy to grow from seed and flower for a long period (corn marigold tends to get a bit messy because it's a wild flower though... It flowers late into autumn though). Poppies are also easy, once they're in they reseed and grow every year, they're almost like a weed so if you don't want them to come back don't grow them. Despite the fact they're quite hard to start from seed in a controlled environment, they're much better once they reseed. I'm also growing borage (which is also very easy to start from seed) this year to spread around the veg garden to attract more beneficial insects to that area.

Who knew this beautiful plant had so many benefits other than just looking good - one being they are edible! I would love to see videos on how to make some of the medicinal products you mentioned.

I would be interested in seeing a video on making the salve. I am trying to make a medicinal food forest and this video was so helpful.
