88 MPH DeLorean Kart Build Pt. 2 | We Have a Runner!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This week on our Back to the Future inspired 88MPH American Express 2.0 go kart build, we assemble the go kart kit, put a stock Predator 212cc engine on it, and make a top speed run with the kart. Then, we race the kart around the CarsandCameras Grand Prix to see how fast this American Express 2.0 go kart kit is in a circuit race against our other projects.

I have to agree completely with the “averaging” of the runs. Between height and weight and driving styles, that’s the best way to keep the “Grand Prix” leaderboard as accurate as possible. But I think you should do all the builds with a lap to get a good idea of your build history. Only exception would be the rail car cause it’s made for straight lines.

Ya'll need to build a digital lap timer. Instead of relying on a human that is trying to beat your time, wire up a photoelectric sensor like the safety beam used on garage doors, similar to how a drag strip operates. I've got seven beam sensors on my small backyard track that gives me split times down to .001 of a second and it is easy to calculate average MPH too.

i kinda think the whole timing thing and leaderboard is useless if they aren't actually using the fastest time they did on it. kinda dumb to use a slower time just because he won the first time.

I have a new name for the hard left hander at the far end of the property after crossing the last driveway section. I guess that’s technically the front of the house. The part that parallels the road you rip up and down on. Hopefully 3 separate descriptions is enough to let you figure out what I’m talking about. That is now called the “slow is fast” corner. Slow is fast because spinning out, or almost spinning out isn’t 😬

So I bought a 212 a while back for a cart but I had to abandon the project sadly and I sold my frame so instead of a cart I happened upon an old razor dirtbike from when I was a kid and I'm wondering what I can do to make the engine smaller (ex relocate the gas tank) and basically I was hoping you guys could do an instructional video on how to make a basic cart or bike. I've learned a lot from your channel by watching various vids but I can't find one that's a basic how to video on assembling everything.

The reason why it is so wobblie on hi speeds . Is the tire size , get some azusa Tri Star wheels 5” , and some 4.10/3.50-5 tires , they will handle the high speeds better , beefier tire rods are also a safer bet for high speeds

38T sprocket 10T pinion with 10 inch tall tire at 5250 rpm is @41mph 3.8 to 1 ratio. SO... for 87mph you need a 18T sprocket at 5250 rpm with a 1.8 to 1 ratio. Now you can see the rpm improvement in the motor upgrades.

$1292.00 + freight. You can find mostly complete carts on Craigslist for 50-500, $100 for a predator 212, and say another $150 for wheels, tires, assundries etc. Total cost can be as low as a couple hundred if you are resourceful.

Im not sure what about my engine is different but I bought a predator last year and I've been using it on my go kart for a while now and I have never had the governor kick in and it is a really fast engine. If you are full throttle and you reach back to push the governor it is not able to be pushed in any more. After I went full throttle for maybe 30 seconds down the road the engine cut off and wouldn't start up again until it cooled down. What would make it not want to run like that? It ran fine when it cooled down again.

Hey guys... Really glad you went with the NON-hemi engine on this one. The two engines are manufactured by two completely different factories and about the only thing they really have in common is the color scheme. The non-hemi is a far better quality engine and can easily be built to make plenty of power. The quality of the hemi engine leaves a lot to be desired. Fit and finish, as well as machining tolerances are not nearly as good as the non-hemi. I have owned over 15 of these engines and have put them all to the test. Non-hemi wins. Also, the non-hemi is essentially a true Honda GX200 clone that has been bored and stroked. Honda GX200 parts are interchangeable with it. The Hemi is its own breed and not many of the Honda GX parts will fit.
