88 MPH DeLorean Kart Build Pt.1 | Vintage Go Kart Chassis

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Our drag rail is on hold until we get new flywheel magnets, so we're starting a new project! Inspired by the time traveling DeLorean DMC-12 from Back to the Future, we're building an American Express 2.0 chassis with a 20+ horsepower build Predator 212cc engine in hopes of hitting 88 miles an hour.
In this video, we prep and paint our chassis to achieve the stainless steel look of the DeLorean, and assemble the front end of the American Express 2.0 go kart kit.

Isn’t it sad how a 212cc tiny little motor can go 88mph but a real DeLorean with a v6 can barely even go 88mph

Not to state the obvious but there is a thing called power to weight ratio, so yeah of course it's faster.

The reason is because of emission standards at the time, the nation speed limit was 55 mph so there really wasn’t a need to make a car that needed to go any faster

In 1973 I went 57 MPH on a Bug Cart with a 6ci Tecumseh 4 stroke horizontal shaft. Full disclosure; I worked for a racing engine builder in North Hollywood, CA. A flat head ported and relieved, milled head, modified piston and the oil system modified for dry sump. The crank was drilled so the rod bearing was pressure oiled. Custom intake ported and a diaphragm carb. Direct drive to the axle and yes it needed to be push started. I still have the motor on a display stand. Did I mention 6 cubic inches? Build on my friends. going 60 with your butt 2 inches from the ground is a thrill.

nightmare in action. I'm having a blast with mine. And from what I've found on various sites there's quite a few "performance" parts. Not only that in my state I can get it registered as a moped with an inspection. And plus With the way gas prices are going here. $3 dollars a gallon it's getting expensive to keep gassing up my truck every few days. ( 95 chevy 1500 powered by a 350 sbc) Verses filling up once a week with this bike.

Hey, John, the DeLorean was only "coated" with stainless streel; its chassis was regular steel, and its body was glassfiber reinforced plastic, coverd by the SS panels. Loved the idea and can't wait to see it finished. Dont't forget the soundrack!

The best bang for your buck on an engine build is to take a predator 212 put a gx140 emulsion tube with stock jet in the carb. remove the muffler and replace with shorty header, no muffler. Unlink the gov. And keep the stock flywheel on. Also cut the yellow donut stopper wire on the back so you can do donuts

It would be nice when you build a stainless steel DeLorean body around the go kart! Great video!
