86 Honda 350x Goke Starter, Battery and Gauges Install
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Finally scored a Goke electric starter for my bike. Watch as I design brackets and wire in new components. Also went for a ride with the girlfriend and showed our restorations at video end.
Just scored a 2014 Honda TRX400x. Like new, last year made!
We had a blast that day - left some of the goofy stuff in the video for your enjoyment.
Like 3 wheelers and vehicle field romps check this guy out!

Awesome job on that Goki install Jeff! Really looks and works great. Looks like you and Jackie were having a blast riding around. Hey! That's the good dust you're wiping off! Its not gonna run right without it. :) I did have ONE super nice three wheeler that I did keep clean, and up in the shed. But then sold it before it ended up like the rest. Though, I sold it to my buddy mike, and it ended up like the rest. hahah. And that was nice getting a good walk around of all the machines in the sun. Can really see how great of condition they are in. If you'd want it, i'd like to donate a hitch for the 250SX. I have quite a few, and they are pretty small, just mount on those 4 bolts on middle of the rear axle there. If you want it. All around, great video sir. I know what you mean about re shoots. I've got folders filled with different versions of the same thing. Sometimes that's why it takes months to get something spliced together, edited, and uploaded. But always great when its worth it in the end, like videos like this one.

Tommy - dig your response! So nice for you to offer the hitch, actually Jackie blasted and painted - we do have one just didn't put it on. Man I cut another 12 minutes out of that video for the second upload. Too much same same. Neat to know I'm not the only one with..... Oh - we finally bought a toy hauler. Went camping last weekend. Her Dodge truck pulls it great at 70. I don't have anything to pull that with. It is a Wildwood 260rt if you care to research. We each were researching for 3 days on the internet before purchase. Wanted to get what we desired so no need to purchase another in several years. That's a lot of $. I don't need a new or other car so.... Love that old stuff, one can keep going forever with very little $ and a tad of maintenance. So nice having you stop by - Jackie always has to read your comments too. If needed we could always blame that on those Bolens tractors. :>) Now that we got the group pictures - dang - yeah - the machines are grubbed out now. Should of took another picture! Catch ya again Tom, Jeff.
I like. Your doing better? Hi Jeff's girlfriend too. Thanks for sharing. God bless you and yours.

Thank you! Now that you scored that sweet new shop - is a museum next for your homemade collection....
Great video, thanks for sharing your work. Best thing anyone can do to keep Goki working is to get a modern dirtbike clutch lever with a shorty Hot start lever. Run a cable from the HS lever to the decomp arm on the head and pull it in while starting. The Goki is known to eat it's own ring gear (cannibal), that's just one of the reasons why they're so hard to find in good shape. We had a guy get a new ring gear machined this past year and I believe ti ran him about 600$ including the print, he can get them done cheaper now and based on the going rate for Goki's, it's worth it.
Just something about having a girlfriend that enjoys it all with you....I want to put electric start on one of ours for my girlfriend.
Nice job on the electric starter, starts up real smooth. I've got a 1986 350X, pretty much stock condition, just Renthal bars installed. Mine's really clean. Would love to some by and check out your collection. I live in southern Ontario.

Jeff, tremendous video, fantastic build, thanks for sharing! Any chance you could add a parts list for the 350x Goki install? I can’t get over how well your 350x turns over, she’s running like a top. Thanks

Ha ha, Thanks for the comment, like that kind!
amazing video jeff! about to do my goki setup as well and this video ill be referencing back too! the amount of detail and craftsmanship i really enjoyed and being new to the channel i love the videos! only concern i had was ive herd and seen alot of guys say you gotta use the compression release (slightly kick over the starter to engage it) while starting with the goki and i see this kind of as a pain and almost defeats the purpose of having the goki to start with, my question to you is that i noticed you dont do that, has it chewed up the flywheel? or had any problems hard starting without using the compression release? only concern for me is i finally got a minty kit and i dont want to ruin the flywheel within the first month of having it on lol! again, great video and really entertaining, thank you- sam

Keep the machine tuned good so as little starter use is needed as possible. That lithium battery helps to make cranking easier. (no problems) I do think I will try what you brought up - use the kicker to relieve the crank. Does sound logical to ease on the system!
yep
Hi jeff, i was wondering if you can tell me how you hook up the wire for your tachymeter? 🤔 ...
i had one of those on my 350 but it broke because my compression release wasn't working
Need to do a camera mount.
Did you have to kick the kick start to start it?
HI I AM TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING ON MY ATC I HAVE THE STARTER FLYWHEEL KIT AL THAT JUST DONT HAVE WIREING AND SWITCHS WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD HELP ME OUT ON WHAT TO USE AND HELP WOULD BE GREAT
I have had to replace my Gokie starter every 3 or 4 years how do I keep it good so I don’t have to keep replacing it
Sorry I'm a 4 wheel guy! Those 3 wheelers are dangerous!!!!
Jeff I have 2 questions for you . First I'm the guy with the 2.9L 86Ranger and wanted to put a tac in it up don't know where to hook up the distributor wire because it has the computer like yours. Any thoughts on how to hook one up? Also how would I change the distributor so that it would accept points. I'm looking to go old school and go with a carb I already have an extra intake which I'll have a machine shop cut down and weld a plate on the top to accept a carb. The intake isn't the problem that's easy to do but it's the distributor that I'm stuck on. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeff!!!!

Hi Dave. You would need a distributor with a mechanical/vacuum advance to get it to run as needed. It sounds simple but there would be a lot involved. I wasn't happy with how mine ran being the first year for port efi. I did convert it to the newest year computer, (think it was an 1992, long time ago for me now where I did that, many projects here) - but - even tho it would plug into the connector there was multiple wires that had to be changed. I could understand why - the benefits but there was a bit involved without a doubt. I don't mean to be a Debbie downer but if you cannot find a distributor with above listed.... worried about you spending a lot of money with undesired results.
Long time no c
Could I pay you to install one on my machine
Looks ugly 😕
