Knowing This Could Save Your Life!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

We were on our way home when things went bad. We decided to post this where it could save some lives. Learn from our mistake. I was knocked unconscious, unable to get out of the burning truck. A BIG time Thank You to all that assisted! I have multiple stitches in my head from the impact. Jackie was banged up, as we both are on the way for recovery. I have obtained replacement camera gear where I will still be posting video's. My last one was done before the accident. I did loose others which needed to be finalized. Have some pretty neat idea's for future ones so stay tuned. Thank You all for being part of my life, so much enjoy all your comments. I always hope my video's make your life better too! Jeff.

So happy to hear both of you are okay! You can replace vehicles, create new machines, but never get back a lost life. Take it slow, rest up, and thanx for posting this all-important info here. Doug@ the "ranch"

Dang! I'm glad you guys are OK. I'm very sorry to see your hard work get damaged. I really do think they should offer or even require some training so people know what to expect when towing serious loads. We all learn through trial by fire but some of us aren't as lucky and don't make it through. I've lost control of loads but only through this trail by fire could I save myself these days. Besides holding the wheel straight, not letting off the gas and actually accelerating (along with applying only the trailer brakes) will save you. It's our natural instinct to over-correct and apply the brakes when these situations happen. I can't believe any modern vehicle would catch on fire like that. That's scary.

The GF brought that up too that they should include towing advice along with the initial walk thru of your trailer purchase. Your totally right - that probably would of made all the difference.

I can definately identify with this crash. About 12 years ago a tractor-trailer passed me but didn't complete the pass before cutting over into my lane. This move forced me off the highway and down an imbankment. Trying not to hit the huge trees at the bottom I tried to turn away. The trailer overpowered the truck and everything rolled over. Of course the tractor-trailer kept right on going like nothing happened. It seems you got knocked about much worse than I did. Thank God you survived! Things can be replaced or repaired. People, on the other hand not so easy. Take care of yourself and heal up. We'll be praying for you.

This happens a whole heck of a lot because truck drivers are always pissed they don’t make enough money for their time on the road. They are paid by the mile but the trucks are limited to a certain speed and no more. Also drivers are limited to 11 hours during any time of the day, no matter what common sense would make you believe. So this forces drivers to drive fatigued change lanes aggressively, and sit in the passing lane for minutes on end trying to pass trucks going 0.5mph slower. Because they know that half a mile an hour for 11 hours is an extra 5 miles and an extra $2-$5 in their pocket every day. That adds up quick over many months and years. There must be a change for driver compensation, reasonable driving hours, and road etiquette. Government already messed it up, they shouldn’t get involved again. Drivers just need to form a massive union and pass their own laws.

You have had a couple of bad years, hope things come together. Trailer whip is scary and I have had it happen a few times. We just have to remember stuff can be rebuilt or replaced, life can't be. You have to keep telling yourself that until it doesn't bother you any more.

@@testing-sp2en Hi there! Not sure how to answer your question. Actually not familiar with that car. Just purchased the battery's which they delivered. Do as much research as possible prior to purchasing anything to try to figure out if that thought will be financially feasible to execute. Some times the final job can excel the previous thought for investment. (Worried about costing too much for you!)

Wow, you were really lucky! It may not seem like it but you both got out along with your pets and that's all that really matters! Stuff can be replaced but life cannot! I disagree on the airing up the tires to the maximum psi though! That means when the tire gets hot it is over it's maximum and therefore more likely to have a blowout. Having tires and vehicles that meet the load rating for what you are pulling is important along with knowing the actual weight of your trailer when it is loaded with everything is very important and people just assume they know when the truth is it usually weighs a lot more than you think!

Wow this is one of those devastating crashes where your wondering did they live? Glad to hear your ok. I saw a guy pulling a 39 ft camera with a v8 explorer enough motor but not enough tow vehicle. I asked him about sway and sway bar. He told me it was bad on windy days even with a sway bar he had almost wrecked swaying a couple of times. I have towed a 30 ft camper and others for many years it can go bad fast as you know. I am glad you are both around to tell others you story and how to handle it. I was also a first responder for more than 20 years the things I have seen sometimes you just say it was just luck that no one was killed. Good luck repairing all you nice things those wheelers were beautiful.

You were very lucky. Unfortunately this is something we see in the fire service to much. Your truck is to small for this trailer you were at best 600 lb under the capacity of your truck. Figuring dry tanks and no luggage. There is no replacement for a heavier tow vehicle and experience. As for the response time remember somebody has to make a phone call. Has to be taken down by dispatcher and toned out to the crew. Then they're turn out time and drive time start.
