808 Day Special: Lex Luger builds a trap masterpiece with MASCHINE+ | Native Instruments
Музыка
Watch as pioneering trap producer Lex Luger (Juicy J, Waka Flocka Flame, Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa) builds a cinematic trap beat from scratch with MASCHINE+ and the KOMPLETE KONTROL S61 Keyboard at the Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Los Angeles.
Luger starts by using the Auto Sampler on MASCHINE+ to sample sounds from several vintage synths in the museum’s legendary collection. Then he uses MASSIVE to lay down a bell sound for the foundational melody, a cinematic string sound for additional atmospherics, and a ragtime piano for harmonic support.
With the foundational elements in place, Luger programs the drums with MASCHINE+. Using Note Repeat to nail trap’s signature hi-hat triplets and quantizing individual sounds to tighten up the production, Luger lays down a bounce-heavy 808 and drenches it in reverb and delay for added warmth before programming several more drum patterns to add more excitement to the beat.
Making use of the museum’s collection, Luger adds a dark horn sound sampled from a vintage Elka Synthex and a violin sound sampled from a vintage Jupiter 6. Then he removes elements of the track to make space for the artist and brings it all home with a sonic switch-up featuring more hi-hats and a triplet-inflected 808.

Notice how Lex kept everything simple and kept it moving forward. That isn't because he can't do complex things either; being able to move a workflow like this takes a lot of discipline and experience.
After Shawty Redd and Lil Jon, Lex enhanced the way 808 drums are used and now you hear this way of using drums in almost every Rap, Pop, and even R&B record.

Just bought the Maschine Software 2 after brushing the dust on a used Mikro mk2. These drums from their expansions hit hard, I got the Ultimate 14 and that comes with many. They fill like completed sounds and studio ready. Not like the sample packs from the edm world, many companies just fill with crappy drums to sell packs. But Native Instruments Expansions are no joke, they feel and sound like the real deal.
Man its always refreshing seeing this young man sober and seemingly happy and in a better position mentally.

what some people don't understand about lex is that he started off taking the vintage brass trap sound to new heights but after that era he pioneered a completely new sound. tyga - lap dance, smoke dza - loaded, juicy j - smokin and im sippin to name a few. the mark this man left on the music industry is insane 🐐
I've had Maschine 1 and 2 since they first dropped and only imported the sounds into FL because the sounds are so clean. I keep my Native Access updated even though I never used it. This motivated me I'm digging my 2 out the closet this weekend...
