    Like Paco de Lucia, Sabicas and other unbelievable virtuosos, Tina has the talent to access her subconscious without letting her conscious mind interfere. There are early videos of Paco with the same semi detached look on his face as Tina's unconcerned attitude. It's not boredom, it's that look of unconcern as the wild river of all the packed material in the subconscious is unleashed. Go girl!

    The brilliance was the timing of her parents buying her an electric. Two years earlier and we may never heard of Tina S. The key to children becoming great on the guitar is they must stay acoustic until they have mastered the fingerboard. Too many kids get an electric at 8 or 9 years old and then they start using effects to replace skill. Tina S took the long road and it paid off for her.

  • @georgebuck2269

    @georgebuck2269

    Yes you are correct. When a guitarist is not known and auditions for a job, the band sometimes asks the man to play acoustic only. If they can't play no job. I gave lessons for a year and would insist that the young boys play electric with no amplifier. My comment was always "you have no vibrato." I think "The Loner" is one of her best songs..

    @@mikaelbiilmann6826 Understood. I still like them. I am not a guitar player, but it seems to me she is not making extensive use of shred techniques here, but I am far from knowledgeable in this matter. She does use lot of vibrato, pinch harmonics.

    @@gambledw If you listen to the songs, it's clear that she uses way too much distortion, and as you said: her vibrato is not that of a seasoned player like Gilmore or Moore. She also covered a Dream Theater song, where she used way too much sliding into a note. I did the same things when I started to play guitar. Not knocking Tina, because she has more ability in her little toe than I have in my ten fingers, just noting context to a song and the whiz-bang you use when you're "new-ish" because Tina was not new when she made those covers.

  • @gambledw

    @gambledw

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@mikaelbiilmann6826 Yes, other people have made the same criticism about distortion. The slides did not seem to bother Dream Theater too much since they played parts of her cover at their intermissions in the past. I still like her versions very much, but my ear is maybe a bit uneducated. Even though she was not 'new', she was still young by any measure (or at least by my measure). Maybe her taste would have evolved as she got older, but sadly, probably we will never know since it seems she has moved on to other things.

    I liked the video, I really like her performances she is incredible!! Yes, and the Moonlight (that was written for piano, and I like piano) that I don't really love the third part, on the Guitar by Tina I can hear it again and again and every time I can't stop till the end. Beethoven would really like this interpretation and performance

    Every now and then. Be it timing, be it chance. A child’s world is opened up to something. That obviously is a god given gift. She is simply put……on a different level. I’ve watched science specials on people with incredible artistic talents. They just are wired (for lack of better description) different. All of us, in this case. Easily love the sounds coming from the guitar. How they resonate within us. From a early age, I’m sure a music teacher clearly knew. Oh Lord, this is something special. So wonderful she learned on acoustic. Then after many years of practice (in her case 4-6 years ? 🤪) let’s see what electricity added in does lol. I’ve not seen any videos of Tina playing a 12 string. I can only imagine how beautiful that would be. What a awesome ability she has.

    You can't tell from the video you reacted to, but a lot of the early years she was reading sheet music while playing. I think thats where she learned to play without looking at the fret board. I also like that you get to see her performing drills to work on her speed. The only frustrating part of this video is they didn't show some of the best parts of the pieces she's playing. These original videos were on Tina's KZread site but most of them have been removed. So you're looking at someone else's edit of those original videos.
