Children can be really into dancing and other sport, maths, literature and etc and like to do them competitively. Though I do think that she should try and maintain a social life.

She can either do that in school or at a chess academy. Besides, most children her age are too into their iPads to engage in such activities.

They're able to memorize things now that help him them improve and understand the game much faster. Would not happen many years ago, or it was much harder to say the least.

Both of them are extremely inspiring for what they are capable of doing at their ages. The video editing was great as well.

He's adorable towards her, and shes such a good player and good kid generally. Their mannerisms are so adorable to watch, but wow she has a bright future and good sportsmanship!

Bodhana is a serious force of nature. I have watched her play in junior tournaments for a couple of years now; she plays with such accuracy and I have never seen her lose against another junior. Truly a phenomenal player and I am excited to see how far she can go.

He did decent, and more importantly he said he barely plays, and hasn't played a rated game in almost 40 years. He played maybe 1800 or 1900, which I think is reasonable give what we know. If he was in practice and playing rated games then he wouldn't have done so well, but given what we know he did play well.

They were both very humble. Bodhana is a very grounded and curious young lady, who behaves very politely and doesn't seem to have any arrogance about her amazing success so far. Peter is a charming and grandfatherly figure, who was happy to show Bodhana around the building and who had no shame in admitting his own shortcomings against an 8-year old chess player. Bravo to both.

I have had the pleasure of meeting Peter in person a few times, he's a bridge player who has done rather well. Just as this video demonstrates, he is a generous, polite and friendly person. i was lucky enough in the early 70's (?) to play a young girl named baraka shabazz (sp) several times at the anchorage, alaska chess club. i beat her a few times and lost a few times. ultimately, she moved back east and became one of the strongest women players of her time. interesting to catch young talent on its way up . . . and realizing that they have moved far beyond you and on to the upper reaches of the game. very exciting to see a talented young player take hold and start to improve. good luck to all our young players.

I think they both actually had very unique interesting personalities from two different generations. Enjoyed the video.

i dont think your mind really starts to decline significantly until you're past your early 70s really. i've had near 80 year old philosophy professors reciting and engaging with some of the most dense intellectual material with ease, so even past that age its very possible to keep your mind sharp.

I remember when my grandfather taught me chess when I was 8, 8 years later i still remember how the game works and was able to learn the basics in a few days almost a week because I had remembered the movements of each individual piece. My grandfather passed away recently but I will always carry his legacy with me on the chess board. Always respect your elders no matter what!!

This is amazing, huge congratulations to the girl.

You can see that even though Peter has only played 1 rated game since he retired, he still had all the passion and pride of a master so it must have been a difficult pill to swallow. I know that he's going to cheer for Bodhana with proud eyes as she takes over the world in the future years.
