8 Ways to build a Custom Clutch | LEGO Technic

Ғылым және технология

Hello everyone!
I'm back (🥳) with a really common mechanism: the clutch. There is a compact Lego version, but that never stopped me from designing lots of custom versions to find a use for :)
Enjoy watching,

Nice video, very practical fpr us who can't get ahold of those fancy synchro pieces! I was about to go yapping about how you ised the word clutch for the gearbox-like mechanisms in the video but thankfully I watxhed to the end first. I see you do know what a clutch is, I would've been pretty embarrassed to give a lecture and then find out at the end of the video that I was wrong. Anyways yeah most of the designs you showed are really similar to the meshing and unmeshing designs used in archaic automobile gearboxes, amd sometimes the mesh-unmesh design is still used in reverse gears. But a clutch is meant to disengage the power to the gearbox so that shifting can occur, since as you noted, those mechanisms wouldn't work too well while turning under force. :) Anyways again good job

Yeah, again that's a point where I sacrificed terminology to have a way to put these mechanisms in a single video :) The original Lego part is often referred to as a "clutch", so I went with that, but yeah, that's not really correct.

those aren't cluches they are transmissions and differentials

  • @ABaumstumpf

Those are gearboxes - not clutches. So why insisting on calling them clutches when you know it is wrong? No sane person would call that a clutch and you are just making them use the wrong word then.

  • @in1

Replaces the Lego part called "clutch", that's why I called them custom clutches. They do the same as a clutch, while I would expect a gearbox to at least have a transmission.
