    Thank you doctor, I have vitamin D diffency. My pcp has me on 4000 mg of vitamin D3 daily. Recently I found a supplement that has vitamin D3 with vitamin K2 that I'm taking now. Great information on this video. I do have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, stage 2 CKD, and since last year I've suffered with a low platelet count since last year and right now my count is 99,000. Doctor, what are your thoughts on this?

  • @ThinkYourHealth

    @ThinkYourHealth

    Has your low platelet count been worked up? In NAFL , the liver has fat buildup, but is not inflamed, it can become NASH( non alcoholic steatohepatitis) the liver has fat buildup and is inflamed.Now these types of liver diseases can be associated with low platelet count.The diagnosis of hepatic steatosis requires imaging(or biopsy) and your Doctor will need lab tests to determine this.CKD stage 2 is only mild and would denote some renal disease and the way to encounter that is with health lifestyle choices.

    @@ThinkYourHealth Yes I saw my hemotologist in September and my platelet count was 99,000. I have to have it rechecked in December. He explained to me that my platelets were low because of my liver disease. On the first visit that I had with this doctor, they took 9 tubes of blood from me so they could find the cause of my low platelet count. Like leukemia, hepatitis, etc and those tests came back fine. Lately I've been having problems with feeling cold almost all the time and I've noticed a couple of blood blisters on my arm. And now I have one on the top of my hand and it's right on top of one of my veins. I don't know whether to call my hematologist office and let them know or not.

    You can supplement with Vitamin D2 or Vitamin D3. You can supplement with both but most experts recommend VitaminD3 as it can raise levels more effectively. If you are Vitamin D deficient supplementation is as follows: 50,000 IU of Vitamin D2 or D3 weekly ( or twice a week) for about 6-8 weeks and then 1000IU of Vitamin D3 daily. Now if there is a compliance issue or you have too many pills you can continue with 50,000 IU monthly. If you are Vitamin D insufficient; If your level is between (20-30 ng/mL) you can get supplemented in the following way: 600-800IU of Vitamin D3 daily to reach your target level. While taking in Vitamin D it is recommended to take 1000mg daily of calcium for premenopausal women and men , and for post-menopausal women 1200mg daily. Look for dietary choices which are Vitamin D rich: Here is a resource ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminD-HealthProfessional/

    There is no set time to take Vitamin D as long as you take it around the same time.If you prefer take it in the morning after breaking fast or with a meal with higher content of fat as it improves absorption.There is some research to suggest not to take Vitamin D too late at night as it can interfere with melatonin.
