8 Tips to clear mucus from the lungs

How to clear mucus from the lungs? How to get rid of airway secretions and sputum? This is a very common problem for patients with chronic respiratory diseases such as bronchiectasis and COPD. It is generally a mechanical problem, with either increased sputum or dilated airways where the phlegm builds up.
8 tips that may help with airway secretions:
1. Keep well hydrated
2. Deep breathing and progressively more powerful coughing (not sudden bursts)
3. Consult a physiotherapist
4. Can use certain devices such as flutter valves or vibrating devices
5. Consider nebulizers with normal saline or hypertonic saline
6. Some medications can help - such as acetylcysteine - check with your doctor
7. Avoiding medication for dry cough (such as codeine or other cough suppressants)
8. Routine consultations with your doctor to make sure your chest condition is treated well overall.

Try Proning too. It will help the mucus to come up if you assume the prone position and cough.

I've been told i have allergies. Since i always have flu like symptoms, and turn slightly asthma like during winter. And at times, randomly, my lungs fill uo with mucus. Like last night. And my chest feels tight. So i take a bronchi dilater syrup medication, Vifex. It helps. And I breathe freely

Thank you very much doctor, my doctor prescribed seretide diskus, ventolin inhaler for me with predrosolon tablets,. My question is pls tell me what’s the actual work of the tablets. 2. Is it a must to spit out the mucus? 3. Do you rinse your mouth after using ventolin inhaler? Thank you.

I take seretide everyday)it’s a control inhaler and ventolin only when I feel congested.I take prednisone only when the congestion is pretty bad and the inhalers aren’t clearing 💯. I rinse my mouth bcoz the aerosols tend to dry my throat.

Doctor I have been suffering from this exactly. I have a fever, no cough, they did a spinomertry test I failed (obstruction/restriction). Administered nebulizer for 3 times / 3 days but that is temporary after a couple of hours it comes back 😢. I don’t know what to do. They gave me a turbuhaler but I don’t feel anything even after taking it.

I have tried this and for me it only helps for a short while maybe between 30 min to 2 hours relief depending on how bad the cough is. But it is still useful and worth trying because it does offer temporary relief and for some it may work better than on myself.
