The panels where he traps the Red Skull underground with enough water for two months (if carefully rationed) and NOTHING else sent chills down my spine. Red Skull, mouth hanging open in a silent scream in several panels, growing darker and darker as Magneto seals the door behind him. Not quite. The What If has Doom successfully beating the original Beyonder and never losing his powers. He returns to Earth, wipes out any remaining threats before returning to the cosmos. There he gets the gauntlet and enters a war with the Celestials that lasts for centuries. The universal backlash of this war is so great that in order to save the Earth, he has to use up all his power. Then he returns to Earth, takes up a plow and helps rebuild society. And introduces himself as "Victor". He had nearly destroyed everything and it humbled him. Just enough for him to willingly return to mortality and fix his mistake.

Marvel and DC have great villains! Its hard to give a top 10 but in no order I gotta put Apocalypse, Thanos, Doom, Luthor, Joker, Darkseid, Vandal Savage, Ultron, Osborne and 10 could be Twoface, Ras Al Ghul, Kingpin, Red Skull, or many others ( I never really saw Magneto as a proper villain and is a better antihero or just a deep character) also does anyone who read the 911 comic feel that doom crying was out of character

It's a long story. The TL;DR version: first there was the Squadron Supreme from an alternate Earth. They were heroes; then the Grandmaster used some of them as a model for his own personal bad-guy team; Those guys became the Squadron Sinister. For more info use the Marvel Wiki.
