He knew the apathetic Manhattan would not see the forest from the trees and kill Rorschach, who he knew would have the righteous indignation to "have" to report on this. I have always said that the Star Wars prequels were just as much a story of the rise of Palpatine as it was the rise of Darth Vader. In fact, the duplicity and manipulation from Palpatine was my favorite part.

  • @KaijuAKD
    @KaijuAKD Жыл бұрын

    The real master plan of Palpatine was not taking the Senate, although was a big part of it. The genius move was... hiding. By not fighting the Jedi Order as a Sith, he allowed them to grow compliant, letting them become arrogant, and weak. He exploited every weak link in the order, and he only failed just because Sith had the same wrong concept of The Force. The Force is one thing, it doesn't really have sides. Luke ends up becoming a true agent of it, embracing all of it.

    Good example and I think she would classify as a villainess, especially when she abandoned her love interest to die, locked in a small portion of the mansion. Her arranging the death of her creator is arguably justified given he was holding her "captive" (assuming we grant her the same rights as any self-aware being), and experimenting on her, and generally being cruel to her. But the other guy? She played him, then left him to die.

    Yeah, and it didn't work because of sentimentality. Piter wanted Jessica, so he spared her and her son, thinking that they weren't a threat and leaving their demise to underlings. He should have just had them both shot in the "crossfire". No explanations needed, woops, sorry, collateral damage... Or "no, I said Don't shoot them, you must have misheard me". Oh well, that book would have sucked. Things turn out alright in the end, just needed to cause the scattering once people were no longer so predictable as to make prescience useful.

    What about HAL 9000 in "2001"? Yes, he's made more sympathetic in "2010", but in the first story he's pure inscrutable malice. And his plan to get rid of the crew was brilliant: Fake a malfunction, draw a crewman outside to fix it, kill that crewman with the pod, draw the only other active crewman out to rescue the first one, kill the three crew in cryosleep while he's gone, and then don't let him back inside when he returns. This plan failed, but I think it had a better chance of working exactly as HAL intended.

  • @trintenm8551

    @trintenm8551

    Жыл бұрын

    I think the issue keeping HAL off the list is that HAL wasn't acting out of evil or intentional malice. He was trying to resolve a conflict between his core programming ("Don't lie.") and his mission orders ("Lie about what the crew is really going to investigate."); paraphrasing on both of those. The solution? HAL doesn't need to lie if everyone is dead, meeting both of his requirements. It was a logic driven decision, horrific by human standards, but to something which has morality defined in binary code and very clear parameters... not so much.

    not only Did Palpatine succeed but he also managed to become the Emperor through purely legal means, as well as manipulate the Jedi into comitting treason and attempting to seize power for themselves. In fact part of what led to Anakins fall just happened to be when he was shot down while reminding a certain Jedi that does nothing but insult and disrespect him that the Jedi way and the law said Mace had no right to kill Palpatine. And told flat out by Mace Windu turning to the dark side that Mace's word is law.

    I once read a fan theory that Palpatine is Anakin's father & he had spent decades behind the scenes not only gaining power to become Emperor & take out all of the Jedi, but also to have his son become his apprentice to take over the Empire from him. Now, this is based on a story about Palpatine written before Disney gained the rights to Star Wars, so it's no longer canon, but given everything else Palpatine did during films 1 through 6 this isn't implausible.

    You say that Palpatine was just a "lowly Galactic Senator" but I can't tell if you are joking or being serious. Even if you are just a galactic senator, that still means you are basically in charge of at least 1 planet. Like if we had a single world government here on earth, and there was 1 person in charge of that government, they would be the equivalent of a galactic senator. So that's still kind of a ton of power actually.

    I've often said that what Thanos should have done in Avengers Infinity War was 1) wipe out between 1/8 to 1/6 of the population of just intelligent life in the universe & 2) double all natural resources in the universe to help meet the growing population's needs. Thanos wiping out 1/2 of all life was a problem since he wiped out all intelligent life & animal life which still resulted in further inequality of resources that would be difficult to distribute amongst the surviving 1/2 of the population.
