    One tip I got from a French teacher is about the articles. "Use the indefinite articles un / une to learn the gender of a word." The reason behind this is that they never change, unlike le / la. Example: l'avion - un avion Since le becomes l' you can't see what gender the word is, but 'un' always tells you it's masculine

    I'm an American that decided 5 months ago to seriously attempt to learn French. Consequetly, I've viewed lots of teaching material on KZread and in print. I'm glad I found your channel because you explain the whys and hows of word and sentence stucture better than any teaching aid I've found. I especially appreciate how you speak slowly at times, something that other teachers fail to do. Merci, Dylane.

    What a great comment to read, thank you so much! To be honest with you, my teaching changed a lot when I moved to Canada and I understood the challenges English speakers have when learning French so I try to reflect that on my channel. I am glad I can help you on your journey. Just leave me a comment if you have a question, I try to answer all the comments at least once a day. Merci beaucoup 🙂

    You have become a wonderful added dimension to my learning French. Your lessons are simple and clear. i am 65 years and have finally become serious about learning French. I had a patient from Taihiti who invited us to come stay with them, a very strong incentive. I had a step-mother from St Cloud, outside of Paris, who would be very proud of me. I am keeping expences to a minimum but I study French every day (634 days in a row!). I will improve even better with you and your lessons. Thank you

    I struggle the most with ‘thinking French’. I have serious trouble communicating ideas that are a tad more complex. Soon as I make longer sentences or write assignments, they don’t make sense because I am trying to translate English to French. Let’s try an example: Des que j’essaie de crée des phrase plus complex, enfin, ça ne pass pas en Francais parce que les structures sont pas pareil. (Excusing the spelling too ;)

    @@purplepuma123 'Thinking French' -- oh la la! I don't even know how French people do that! LOL One of my favorite examples: John's little black book = le petit livre noir de Jean (the little book black of John) French splits the adjectives before and after the nound, with the possessor at the end. Well.......... in English we have honor, queue, yacht, just to name a few with mute letters. Also, we have silent "e" everywhere, and they change the sound of words. Examples: fin - fine don - done cur - cure Then there is: later - water but waiter but daughter - laughter - after English is nuts, too. 🙂

  • @SokootYalda
    @SokootYalda11 ай бұрын

    @11:00 Quite : an adverb, meaning to a full extent, entirely, utterly Similarly: an adverb also, meaning in Like Manner, equally , uniformly. So to me it sounds like if you say " Quite Similarly" , you would mean " Absolutely Identically " --- which I don't think that it is the case. But, omitting quite will correct the sentence and reduces the weight. " Event though we use them Similarly = We use them the same way"

    To expand, conjugation is the changes we make with verbs. English does not conjugate as much as French. For example, in the present tense: je mange = I eat tu manges = you eat (singular/familiar) il mange = he eats ** nous mangeons = we eat vous mangez = you eat (plural/formal) ils mangeant = they eat You can see how English uses "eat" five times, ** "eats" once. French changes almost every time. So, conjugation is the details of how verbs change according to the subject. Of course, we haven't addressed past tense, future, conditional, imperfect, subjunctive... well, let's not go crazy, eh?

    I suspect Spanish will be more helpful than English. As an expat American living in France and growing my vocabulary and grammar, I've come to learn just stupid English is sometimes. Given there is no gender, agreement with adjectives, no gender specific articles, etc, it can really make the transition to French confusing. But you have to start somewhere. :)

    In Spanish people usually say "ellos" when there are, for example, three women plus one man, but it is more correct to say "ellas". This might explain some people's confusion in French, regarding when to say "elles" or "ils".

    A trick which helped me learn 100% of the words that I encounter and much much faster is using a card app (e.g. AnkiApp) where you make your own cards and then revise them infinitely. Before using this app I wasn’t able to learn any language by myself without giving up but now using this method I have already passed level A1 in German and I’m using it for French now as well.

    Hello dylane. I have just discovered your channel and I’m happy for that. I still try to learn french. And as you imagine it’s a tough and requires “longtemps”. I have two questions for you. The first one, I don’t have any partner to speak with, how can I improve my speaking skills without a partner. In reading I understand somethings better but when I try to speak or listen it’s being like a disappointment :( the second one how can I understand somewhere there is a linking (liaison) or not ? For example “parlez-vous anglais “ in this sentence the translate pronounce it “parle vu zangle” but when I ask the french people They tell me that there is no liaison. So which one is correct? And why in this sentence there is liaison or there is not? Merci d’avance et bon courage

  • @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    @TheperfectfrenchwithDylane

    So sorry for the late reply! I somehow missed your comment! To fix your first problem, you need to make connections in your brain :) Spend time reading and listening to something at the same time. You need to connect the speaking and the reading. (check out my other channel - French chit-chat with Dylane). You can also try to read out loud. (check out my French speaking practices on this channel). For the second issue you have, we have optional liaisons. So sometimes we can link words, and sometimes not. I have a video on that in my French pronunciation playlist. I hope it helps :) PS: All the things I recommend here are free to watch on this or my second channel.

    Another suggestion: I'm not sure where you live, but could you possibly connect with a local school French club/class? Being with students who are also learning French could be an excellent opportunity for you both. You can practice speaking and listening at the same time.

    That's a very good question! For pets and more common animals, we have a difference between female and male : Un chien - Une chienne | Un chat - Une chatte But for souris we will just say "une souris mâle" if we really have to specify. There is no real rule of why this animal or that one is feminine or masculine, besides the rule with the 90% chance that the ones ending with E are feminine

    Number four- maybe students should be thought that all together should be used with the verb in plural. Meaning plural with plural. In English we can’t use They is because of the plural, that’s why They are is correct disregarding if it is feminine or masculine.
