I love how instantly applicable your lessons are to my playing with my band. Most other lessons are so theoretical and less directly relevant.
I absolutely love your content bro. Your video is so helpful and so well layed out. Easy to understand and to the point. I can't exaggerate this enough, thank you for a super helpful lesson and your drumming is inspiring. Thanks for being you.
Great video Jeff! Incredible material for the beginner and intermediate drummers also, because these beats sound fantastic, help you build a great skill, but are not RIDICULOUSLY hard! Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the one on shuffles!
I am a metal/core drummer who loves groove. These beats are so amazing for warming up my ghost notes
AMAZING selection, 4mo in and these gave me a really good practice run
Useful video, just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thanks, Jeff!

Totally agree with the last one ( clyde stubblefield ), i think as a drummer this is my favorite of all time
halftime shuffle is my favorite groove with ghost notes, bernard purdie's drumming is a gift from the music gods

My personal favorite Ghost Note beat, and one that I was hoping you would have added, is Digital Bath by Deftones. But I will note that James Brown's drummer was on point. Dude stays funky fresh and I swear he never messes up.
Amazing as usual. Thank you

You’re very welcome Yaroslav.
Awesome, I'm not even a drummer but watching and trying to understand what drummer or other instrument/instrumentalist do is essential for music production, I think it's even easier to program midi drum if we can imagine what a drummer would do.

Definitely. Apparently a drummer pet peeve is trying to play parts written by guitarists or non drummers in general and contain parts where you need 4 hands lmao

For sure!
Funny that after almost a half a century I didn't know what everybody was always talking about, when they were talking about "Yeah yeah sure I play these Ghost notes on my kit!" But then I find your way of showing what it is. Well in a matter of fact, I had been playing these so called "Ghost" notes all the time, especially in the beginning (around 1968) when I wasn't so GOOD on the bass drum, so I often used my Snare drum to fill up what was missing. But luckily I managed to get how to do that famous "Double Beat" on the Kick drum that in a way came instead of these ghost notes on the snare.
0:40 this is legit just the amen break lol. plus im pretty sure its originally from the song "amen brother"
That’s a pant load of sick grooves right there!

Would love to see you take on a Biffy Clyro cover. Maybe golden rule, you’ll love it!
I'm impatiently waiting for weekend to play this
I realized after years of amateur playing how we use the word "beat" in a bunch of mutually exclusive ways and somehow we drummers can still understand each other lol. You beat the drums on beats 1 through 4 to play a beat 😅
As soon as you mentioned Chad Smith I knew the song you were going to play. However, I was even more pleased to hear the Steve Jordan reference on Steve McQueen. I had NO IDEA that was Steve Jordan.

Yeah, Steve demonstrates the groove in his DVD “The Groove Is Here” which is how I picked up on it.
Very Interesting hi hat combination with those 17" crashes👌

Ah I need to correct that actually. Playing 16” K Light hats in this one.
The 2nd to the last one is difficult for me. I dont hit my snare and bass drum together very often unless I am playing double bass. Gonna take some getting used to.
PH vibes are strong with these beats
Ahhhh spin doctors ya had to pick 'shinbone alley/ hard to exist' .. THATS funkin nasty 🤘
These get better as the video goes on really cool! How about Fool in the Rain Bonham?

Thanks Ron! And yes they do.
Sounds like there's 2 separate bass drums or undertones notes on some beats (like the Sheryl Crow ne), is it only due to your playing ? Great videos, thanks !
Hey Jeff, great video and cool playing. Do you have the transcriptions of these beats available to download please? Many thanks, Elred

Did you find out?
most difficult I ever faced was Porcero and the half time shuffle from Rosanna. just learned it last night (not very well, but I can sync the roots). for a year I tried ot learn that song and was misinterpreting the ghost notes on snare as highhats. I would get frustrated and say "my hand cant move that fast dammit!" ha ha..
@seaburyneucollins688
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, he ghosts the snare so delicately that it almost sounds like a hi hat, your mistake is totally understandable LOL! And that's exactly why it's my favorite too, the way those ghosts fit in with the hi hat is just ungodly smooth.
Two princes was always the one for me for ghosties
Again, giving us something to practice and have fun. Thanks man. Shuffle beats next time?

The ghost notes are the softer notes on the snare drum in between the backbeats on 2 and 4. Try a google search on it for more clarification!

LMAO
One dislike! Probably from the far-too-busy, ghost-note hating bass player that I played with for a short period of time. Seems he had all of that covered and wanted me to stick to 2 and 4. Huh!
