Please remember ((Belt system) since 1910 exists to (Create wealth) by the (dojo/ Martial arts Class room environment) extending the Instruction over months and years, because there is (Overhead/costs) of the business. The Instruction NEVER extends beyond the Classroom environment to outside (Urban/Field) environment where the (Art of War/Mars) exists. Is of No rules, Kill or be Killed during a war environment. Do you know why those "jiujitsu" moves are grappling the wrists each other? It was because stopping the enemy Unsheath the katana and stop the "iai jitsu" of enemy , and throw them down in to the ground. This kind of move is very much deep rooted for the selfdiffence of the "Japanese traditional occasion". If people forget this and respect for jiujitsu background then it has almost no meaning but just a movement without knowing true meaning of behind it.

Deciding between Hapkido and Krav Maga due to my profession. Realistically, how effective would this be if someone is swinging punches at you?

  • @AK-rg9rm

Block those punches, learn to attack as well then use these techniques if you don't want to knock your opponent or thinking about to have some fun. Otherwise don't use these techniques in a street fight. Or as you already mentioned Krav Maga above go for it without a doubt.

I think Krav Maga is overrated, one of the easiest ways to stop somone swinging punches is to grab their arms and trip them up or go quickly from a clinch to something that makes them hit the ground hard, Hapkido gives you skill in both trapping, throwing, grappling, kicking and if you mix in a bit of ordinary boxing then it is actually one of the most complete systems as regards useful techniques for various distances and attacks whereas Krav Maga seems to be all about defending against people with guns and knives and stuff. From what I've seen some Krav Maga techniques are actually ridiculous and put you in greater danger of hurting yourself if something goes wrong.
