This is the second best looking lens I’ve ever seen. Only second to the Meike version which has a nicer focus ring imo. I think it looks stunning. Not that that is super important, but I just keep looking at it.

Haha, it is important at times, because how a lens or even a camera for that matter makes you feel will determine how you interact with it positively, and that may in tern cause you to take better pictures too in my opinion😊

I have the 7Artisans 35mm f0.95 and in my opinion, based on your honest review, the 7Artisans 50mm f0.95 is more of the same, including the easy to move declicked aperture. Plus on my copy, the focus ring is also too easy to move. I bought my lens used in a late night GAS attack and now definitely have buyers remorse.

Hehe, so sorry to hear about your GAS, I have plenty hehe, but after a while I still get attached to them and I learn to use them with all their setbacks, but if I really don’t then I tend to sell them off and get something I really like 😊

Seems like a fair review. I have a Minolta MC Rokkor PG 50mm f1.4 that I love for some of the same characteristics this seems to display. It's soft and glowy at 1.4, but stop it down to mid apertures and it's gorgeous. Like you say, if you're after the soft glow and BOKEH! this seems like a good choice. I get the impression it is sharper in the center wide open than the TTArtisans version. Do you know if that is the case?

Thanks so much, I’m not sure because I have never tried that lens before, however i think it is possible as I do find some other lenses I use from TTArtisan that can sometimes be the case

Hi Qippy; Thanks for an interesting oveview. 04:35 To what are you referring when you reference "Olympus vintage glass"? PEN half frame? In trying to determine whether the 7Artisans might be a useful addition to my kit, I dug out my OM 50 f/1.8 to check how it performed. I attached it with a Fotga adapter and was shocked how well it performed wide open on my E-M5. No "glow". Of course it is almost two stops slower.

By any chance do you suffer a really noticeable purple haze over the image when wide open on your 7Artisans 50mm f0.95? I get it quite a bit when shooting wide open, especially shooting outside in the daylight.

Hi I just accidentally dropped my 7artisans 50mm f0.95 lens (dropped the lens to the shopping mall ground/floor) and leaving one scratch mark & faded coating. And the lens glass still normal (didn't break) and the video & photo results also seems normal. But when I shook the lens body, I heard some shaking sound/noise, is it ok?

  • @QippysChannel

OMG! This lens SUUUUUUCK! There is no excuse, no justification and no eufemism for such a softness in the center of the frame! It is basically useless unless you want to achive killer-hangover of LSD-trip cinematic effect footage. They really need to make mark II just as better as Kamlan did with its 50mm f/1.1 lens. Second revision is great and this 7Artisans need to elevate it to at least 35mm f/0.95 level.

These Chinese lenses are all garbage.. bottom line. They get all get acceptable but the time you are around F5.6 to F8 and by then, what's the freaking point??? If you never bought one of those, don't. If you already have one, just shoot black & white at least you'll save yourself from 50% of the misery.

  • @QippysChannel

I guess like I said these lenses have flaws. Sometimes more then others and u need to dive into it with that in mind. For me they still do have relevance if you can put up with all it's limitations to achieve a specific look. But I guess it's not for everyone :)
