I’m a hobby Maple Syrup producer here in the U P of Michigan. And I was outside making Maple syrup this spring. Our Governor said we could be outside doing some activities while not in contact with others. So I was in my sugar shack boiling maple sap and enjoying it, and happy to have something to keep me busy. Our evaporator is wood fired so uses a lot of wood firing every 10 minutes to keep the boil. So with that in mind I must make many trips to my wood shed with a wagon and wheelbarrow bringing wood in for the evaporator. As you probably know it takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of Maple syrup. This year we ended up with just 2 quarts shy of 67 gallons of Pure Michigan Maple Syrup, about an average year for us. We are so Blessed to have acres of sugar maples, good friends, and health to keep this hobby going since 1973! My Father-in-law was with me from the start and did most of the boiling until he turned 100. He is no longer able to boil but just had a Birthday in April turning 103! Brule Valley Sugar Bush, Iron River, Mi. Dave and Betty Lindahl.

Hi to Mike and Melissa from all of us in Central Massachusetts! Lots more folks outside walking, doing yard work, playing with the dog and such. More target practice around here too. We're working on firewood, gardening, and getting the veggies planted in the greenhouse. The garlic is already coming up nice. The chickens are laying up a storm! This week is supposed to stay sunny through Memorial Day. Really enjoying the new Kubota tractors getting their workouts.

I live in town in Cape Girardeau, southeast Missouri. From the outset of the virus I have noticed a lot more people walking the neighborhood. Individuals, families, kids in strollers and more dog-walkers. It seems that girls walk dogs more than guys. And then the icing on the cake - I just love those big, fluffy dogs! Archie is a riot!

For the last 12 years, I have commuted 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day. I have been fortunate to be able to work from home for the last 9 weeks but what has been amazing is, I have made it a point to find a project each day (weather permitting) utilizing the time that I would otherwise be sitting in traffic. I have gotten so many things done. It has been amazing.

Mike, we can only hope that what you and I are seeing will actually keep up its momentum after things fully come back online. I work at Home Depot in Georgia and have witnessed near sellouts of paint, flooring, etc since first of March. An added bonus down here is that all the animals at the pet shelters have been adopted out. Now that warms the heart! Archie - Nothing like having a new kid in town to "stir up the puddin".

I live in Missouri. I recently bought an unimproved 13 acre property way down in the sticks. During this time in our country, i'm building a cabin (25' x 16'). It will be completely off-grid. I've noticed at LOWES there are many more people buying hime improvement items. Yes. It's almost like when we were kids and played outdoors everyday. What a joy it is to get out into the woods with just me and my dogs working on the cabin and property. Thank You, Mike, for the videos. They are greatly appreciated. Blessings to you.

Hi Mike, This is your neighbor to the north in Caledonia, NY. This is a dairy community and we grow all types of beans and feed corn and corn for ethanol In our village I see a lot of families out for walks and bicycle rides.. Best of all there are neighbors standing out talking with each other. That hasn't happened much in a long while. The fellow across the street has constructed a castle from wooden pallets for his 2 young kids. It has a slide, swing and many internal passages, also many places to climb. I had a recent surgery, but have been tinkering with my cars and doing yard projects. I still have to convert my tractor from sno-blowing to lawn mowing. As I have been recuperating, I've been watching Outdoors with the Morgans.

Hey Mike! This is Chris in Lake Stevens, (North of Seattle Wa). Yes! All of the hardware stores, whether small, medium or large chains are slammed with bidness! I have been spending all of my time working on my property and I have discovered that everyone else has the same idea. Doesn't matter whether you have a small back yard or 20 acres. They're making the most of what they have. My project is big so I'm hitting all the stores... hardware, lumber, rocks, dirt and co-ops. They are all busy and many are running out material. Fencing is a great example. I'm converting 5 acres into equestrian pastures and it was a struggle to get all of the materials I needed before they ran out of stock. I have to wait two weeks to have a brush hog delivered because they are so busy. The salesman said he has sold more tillers in 6 months than he has in 6 years. Co-ops can't keep gardening supplies in stock. Cabellas is a big sporting goods store on the west coast and they ran out of ammo. Smaller gun stores are in the same condition. I have seen the same for online ammo stores. I'm not one, but I remember a lot of people poking fun at the preppers, but this pandemic gave everyone a taste of reality that you need to be at least a little more self reliant. Maybe a LOT more!

To the question you asked in the middle of the video the changes we are seeing in coastal CT are similar to what you are seeing with people doing more things outside. The first noticeable thing is that people are exercising more by taking advantage of hiking trials, biking, kayaking, and neighborhood walks. My Deere dealer says that he's never been busier with new mower and parts sales. The other thing that's happening which is a good thing for farmers is that people are clearly taking time to cook a lot more. That means more sales for farmers and for the DIYers more "Victory" gardens going in. The only down side is lower seed, plant, and compost supplies. For us in the farming business(grape growing) the daily work is the same and very enjoyable. At this time of year we are seeing all the migratory birds coming back onto the property. I'm guessing you're seeing the same. As you mentioned this new environment is a wake up call on being prepared to take advantage of new opportunities. It is also a breather for many that allows for more family time which is a good thing. Thanks for the video post. Cheers!

I see a trend towards things like victory gardens, which were seen in WWII. In today's day and age it's important to be more self-sufficient.I've planted fruit trees, built a huge garden, designed an aquaponics system to help grow produce and raise fish, rearing chickens, and want to build a greenhouse. I definitely don't want another situation like we are going through right now to dictate my ability to get supplies again.

We get lots of folks over the last 2 months wanting to buy our chickens. We also have honeybees and sell honey. Folks not only buy our honey but also are attempting to buy our bees! Folks seem to be very interested in homesteading! It's great. I always talk time to help folks out. We just raised 10 little chickens and they were bought at two weeks old. Folks here in Western Kentucky are also all starting gardens...those that didn't already have them.

At 73 I finally got smart put feed on pallet, with ladder on top, picked up with bucket forks and leveled it off at feeder with ladder to the side, just pull a bag forward and fill feeder. Why did it take me so long to figure this one out I will never know. Love you shows.

Great to see people out walking and exercising too. I agree that is one of the silver linings from all of this. Good to see many people spending more time together, getting innovative and finding creative ways to entertain & also educate themselves and their families. I truly enjoy your videos. I live in the San Fernando Valley which is part of the city of Los Angeles. I still live in the same area where I grew up as a boy. In the late 1950s, much of the San Fernando Valley was still very rural, orange and lemon groves still populated the Valley along with Olive groves, vineyards, and several horse ranches too. I had a few classmates who rode their horses to school. But the area became the birthplace for our nation's space industry. The huge rocket engines that powered men to the moon and back were developed, built, and tested in the area where I grew up. Today the heavy industry has given way to apartments and retail/restaurants/bars. In some respects it's cool, but it's the big city lifestyle.

I agree. I think a lot of people's lives have been forced to "slow" down. Everyone was so busy going here and going there and even with their children, running, running, running, baseball games and practice, football games and practice, soccer, band, etc. These are not bad things but sometimes we get overloaded. Families have had time to really connect again and yes, find things to do TOGETHER while so many things have been shut down. America will bounce back; it may take a while, but I hope NEW family oriented activities will continue also. Mark and Debbie Powell from beautiful Ocala (Central) Florida. #HorseCountry

Mike instead of staining, try this get a good exterior paint and some media blasting sand. First put a coat of paint on the trailer immediately after painting sprinkle on the desired amount of media blasting sand and once you do that put another coat of paint while rolling the sand into the paint. (Gives it that linex Berliner texture at a fraction of the cost plus you get awesome traction and durability. Have done this to my snowmobile trailer and utility trailer and it has been holding up great!! Have a awesome day!

I live in a farming community and I haven't seen any changes with the farmers and ranchers in my area.... we also have zero covid-19 cases in my county. Before I retired at the end of 2005, I was working my tail off and never had time to work on projects around my home. I'm now working just as much living on a farm as I did pre-retirement, but my quality of life is so much better. My daughters both live in large cities with their families and they are stuck in their homes.... all I can say is that country living is mighty fine these days. Eastern Washington

I saw lots of people at Lowe's when I had to go last week for some essential stuff! I am ready for things to get back to normal! As someone said earlier, Archie looks like he is going to rule the roost soon.

I agree with the observation of more people out and about here in New Baltimore, Michigan . . . Bike trails and parks are attracting a lot more people than is typical in spring.

Here in Muskoka, Ontario, spring has finally arrived and things are greening up. Home Improvement stores are very busy, with both contractors and homeowners. This being cottage country, we would normally see a flood of tourists and seasonal residents now. That is coming much slower as everyone is cautious about Covid. Retail stores are just opening up now, but no camping allowed in the parks and beaches and resorts are closed. Much more is expected to open up in the next few weeks. No real problems with any shortages, except perhaps Lysol wipes. Stay safe Morgan’s!

Hey Mike. Yes down here in Florida they are keeping the home improvement stores busy. I even put down about 25 bags of red mulch around the yard myself. Refreshing the red mulch is my usual spring thing.

My wife and I have been cutting and cleaning up the dead trees at our cabin. We've done projects we've been putting off for years. I stained our large deck. Three more smaller decks to go.

Was in Walmart to pickup mixing bowls for the Pizza dough making wife and all the kitchen supplies were gone, bicycles gone people riding the strip as it’s temporarily turned back to the locals. Crazy world! Thanks for your channels.

Hi Morgans family, I’m in New Zealand and we are at level 2. Your not wrong there about people getting out more onto their properties and doing a lot of home maintenance, building and that. Our Bunnings and mitre 10 warehouses have been bombarded with online orders and in-store shopping its crazy even on this side of the world.

Here in Michigan, I had to stay downstate while my wife and kids took off for the cottage in Northern Michigan. They’ve been up there this whole time and I visit on the weekends. At least they’re enjoying the great outdoors (when the weather cooperates). Hi Hunter:)

Hey all, I grew up in Bedford Co. PA, about 2 hours east of Mike. The cold weather started getting real annoying, so now I live way down at the southern part of Virginia about 25 miles from the North Carolina state line, and about 20 minutes from the Martinsville Speedway.

We are in NW Washington. The big home improvement stores around here are PACKED every day. We are moving to our new house on 5 acres and need some things for it but have been avoiding going to the big stores due to so many people. People are for sure keeping busy doing home improvement stuff! Next week we start milling up 17 huge trees we dropped with our woodmizer LT35. Making 2 storage sheds and siding for our new shop. Cant wait to start making boards.
