75" LG TV has HDMI control issues (with Yamaha Receiver) - RANT & FIX

Музыка

Last fall I purchased a 75" LG TV - Model 75NANO91ANA
The TV would not allow the HDMI to handshake properly with my Yamaha RX-A1070 Receiver. LG could not have cared less

    I bought a 75 Nano as well. I've not messed with my setup in a while now. I gave up. I remember getting mad at the set-up before and my eARC would cause zero sound from the speakers. I followed the instructions on the TV and the Yamaha with no success and now I have the optical line providing my sound. I really hope this video helps me get the eARC issues fixed! From what I've read the sound is better than what the optical line can provide. Thanks for the video!

    I have an LG 86" NANO with very similar HDMI switching issues with my Yamaha tsr700 receiver . Thanks for posting this video. I'm going to try to set up the LG as a dumb TV as you've mentioned. I just want a TV monitor without all the other smart features.

    As things have progressed, I now get that HDMI message only when I change inputs, but it disappears after a minute. It's no longer an issue.

    Thanks for the video. I bought a 75" LG "nanovision" tv and have been having major problems hooking up my Yamaha RX-V477 to it. I'll follow your lead and hope I get some results and just deal with a dumb tv. I didn't want a "smart" tv in particular anyhow but all new tvs are smart tvs these days I found out.

    Hello, Elliot...I appreciate your video and will attempt to alleviate the problem that seems to be a function of the HDMI signals from peripherals through receiver and into TV. Clarification...trying to better understand how you ultimately connected your Yamaha and LG together. Sounded like you had previously had ARC (video out) from receiver to TV, and the independent peripherals plugged into receiver's HDMI input ports...then you took the ARC (video out) and instead used the regular HDMI out (2) to the TV...right?

    Hi, Thanks for watching and asking. I'll try to answer your question. 1- The TV is now off the wall and replaced with a Samsung. I had an accident taking down a 45 and the bushing flew 15' and cracked the screen. There is now a Samsung in place. There were only minor issues setting up the Samsung and they were concerned with the order of loading devices in. The ARC is functioning with the Samsung and it is the only HDMI input I'm using. I was also able to reconnect the Network to the Samsung with no issue. So I can now either watch via the TV or my peripherals. 2- The problem with the LG seemed to be as you progress the more it wants to take over. 3- I first shut down the ARC so that the TV WOULD NOT SEE any peripherals. I used one of the other inputs so the TV could only work with an incoming signal that it could not take control of to send back to the receiver. 4- I shut down the Menu items that allowed the TV to turn on and control devices. (Simple Link and auto-detection) 5- I shut down the HDMI Ultra color because for some reason it affected the DVD with bringing up the menu and would give me a no power message. 6- The Hard Reset was supposed to lock the above in place. BUT, this only lasted until the TV looked for and performed auto-software updates, then I would have to go through this all over again. 7- I DISCONNECTED THE NETWORK CABLE so the updates would no longer occur unless I wanted to do one. I'm done with LG. The Samsung has been great. My issue with the Samsung was when first plugging it in I gave it the OK to control volume, this was a mistake. I had to turn it off and re-configure the Yamaha and Firestick permissions and all was good. I could then go back and change the Samsung setting for volume without interfering with the Yamaha. All is good. AND yes the Samsung is plugged into the Network without issue. The final problem I had that I could not resolve was my Logitech Harmony Remote. Logitech is no longer supporting the remotes and when I went to update it for the new TV everything went to s^*t with it. I finally sold it on eBay. I don't understand why people are buying these old remotes, but at least it wasn't a total loss on a 20yr old remote.

    My new (and expensive) 65" LG OLED and Yamaha V-685 (which I've had connected to countless TVs) doesn't seem to work. When I use the different surround sound programs on the receiver, it goes to "STRAIGHT" sound.

    You don't say what your source is and whether it is plugged into the TV or the receiver. I plug my sources into the receiver and I have no issue with surround sound programs.

  • @ejcheck

    @ejcheck

    1- I stopped using the ARC 2- As you can see in the video I had to shut down all of the smart features. 3- I'm now using a Samsung TV which has a similar but easier to handle issue. I now just use them as monitors, and keep the TVs off the network 4- The switch to the Samsung was prompted by a cracked screen that occurred while cleaning my 45. The bushing got away from me and flew 20' and cracked the screen.

    @@ejcheck did you use optical for the sound?.

  • @ejcheck

    @ejcheck

    4 ай бұрын

    No, my preference is to use the Receiver for switching. I use a Firestick with KZread TV for my main source with Blu-Ray and Google Chromecast on the other Receiver HDMI inputs, I do no switching on the TV, the receiver sends the sound to the speakers and the video to the TV. There is no need for optical video

    @@ejcheck so how does the receiver send the sound.”

  • @ejcheck

    @ejcheck

    4 ай бұрын

    @@lycett64 The same way the TV would send the sound. ARC simply allows the 2 way communication between the TV and the receiver. ARC is only needed if you are using the TV as a program source. So, if you have the Blu-Ray plugged into the TV you need the ARC to get the sound to the Receiver. If the Blu-ray is plugged into the Receiver you do not need the ARC. It sounds like you need to review some basics on HT setup and sources.

    This took care of it the TV is now used as only a dumb tv. I have disconnected it from the internet so it will not update software, because after every software update it reactivates the HDMI high def. So then I have to redo the reset again. I do not use the arc channel. I use HDMI 2, although I don't think it matters which one you're actually using, as long as it's not the ARC HDMI. But my concern is if I activate the arc it's going to end up activating the other HDMI functions and slowly worm its way back into taking control
