72hrs With The Ethiopian Tribes of Omo Valley
The tribal life of Ethiopia's Omo Valley is one of the most fascinating in the world and being able to see, experience and better understand some of it is truly a privilege.
From the Mursi Tribe living in very uniquely made huts and know for their lip plates, the Karo Tribe living in larger villages as fishermans along the Omo River and known for their body painting to the Hamar Tribe known for bull jumping and their women's clay hair, each and every tribe is unique and worth visiting.
If you ever decide to visit an African tribe, we highly suggest that you spend the night there as well. Will this be the best night of sleep of your life? NO! But it will most likely be the most memorable.
These tribe members are all amazing in their own ways so get out of your comfort zone and go witness a different way of life in Ethiopia's Omo Valley!

The facial art is beautiful. I admire how warm, vibrant and content the tribal peoples seemed. Good trip. I would like to watch you do more explorations of Ethiopia in future, if you can. I see so much of what I would call, "their cultural essence" all over East Africa. Which is why we love them so much.

@wow - very nice. Thanks a lot for showing this other & "uniquely more African" part of southern Ethiopia. PS: many of the tribes in the southern borderlands of Ethiopia also extend into northern Kenya, northern Uganda, South Sudan & Somalia. But & obviously, those in Ethiopia tend to be far less affected by foreign influences [Arabs', highland Ethiopians', Muzungus'/Europeans'] - for now. There are many Christian & Islamic missionaries hovering around these tribes to convert them. In that sense, these are literally "the last authentically African tribes". And, the Omo river is the main source of water for Lake Turkana [ex- Lake Rudolf]. About 90% of the waters that feed & sustain this "largest desert lake in the world" come via the Omo river. The rest of the waters come via the Turkwell river that rises in the Kenyan highlands. Lake Turkana is one of the largest lakes in Africa & even the world. It is the 24th largest in the world with the dimensions of: 290 km (180 miles) long & 32 km (20 miles) wide. Over the past decade or so, Ethiopia has built 3 major hydro dams in the upper sections of the Omo river & some of the electricity from these is exported to Kenya. But, there are fears that the dams will cause major & negative environmental impacts by reducing the amount of water that flows into Lake Turkana & into the lower sections of the Omo river where most of those unique tribes live. The lake could easily be reduced into a series of small & shallow puddles if Ethiopia takes-out more water from the Omo river, say, for irrigation. Many of these tribes also depend on Lake Turkana as the source of fish to supplement their sorghum/millet-farming & cattle/goats/camels herding livlihood. Nagaatti. Best wishes.

I wonder if you have thought of visiting Shashemane a city no so far away from Addis. Here you will find the Rastafarian community which migrated from Jamaica 60 years ago when Emperor Haile Selassie gave them 50 Acres of land to settle in. They have a shrine there and quite interesting. Worth visiting indeed.

Amazing video! One of the best I’ve seen. I thoroughly enjoyed it. However, just a correction. It was mentioned that the Hamar people is the largest ethnic group in Ethiopia at some 65,000. The Hamar people are not even 1% of the national population. A number of ethnic groups are well over a million strong. The largest group would be the Oromo people followed closely by the Amhara people.
