Have you looked at the Toyota AA80E 8speed found in the lexus ISF? Learning how that works might help you improve the shifting for this one. They were able to get a torque converter automatic to shift 50 millisecond up 100 millisecond down iirc.

As long as your CLK uses a variant of the 722 transmission, it's doable
