72 Days Outgrown Gel Manicure - What Happens to Your Nails?
In this video I am going to show you my 72 days outgrown manicure on my right hand. Will definitely do a transformation - give myself a new mani + simple design. Will also share my thoughts on outgrown nails and why clients sometimes may think that it's ok to do fill every 2 months.

Here where I live, nail techs unscrupulously skip steps in prep (with acrylic) so you’re guaranteed to be back in their chair every 2 weeks. Beautiful transformation! 😍

Yep. Same here where I live. They don't push the cuticle back before starting prep or even to do a fill. I started doing my nails when quarantine started last year. My nails don't have much lifting anymore thanks to watching her as well. I learned so much from her.

@@tomspencer4855 Oh, that’s terrible. I’d have returned and darkened their doorstep for resolution on shoddy service. I used to be a nail tech, so I see everything they think I don’t notice. They don’t file off the lifting, they just put product over it. When it comes to removal, they typically pry the nails off instead of soaking them off, which is painful and damaging. I do my own nails now.

I agree with you 100. I also want to add, it’s physics (simply stated) as your natural nail grows out the extensions move up, causing the weight to be distributed further up from the nail bed; the longer you let them grow out the more weight is pushing down on the free edge, which can & most likely will cause the natural nail to split, crack, peel and grow out irregularly. (it’s not always visible to the naked eye, at first, but damage is happening when they are really out of balance). I don’t believe as professionals , we should encourage clients to go more than a month without a fill or rebalance, some can go longer and that’s fine but we should at least be educating our clients on why regular maintenance is important before there is damage. -bragging around ZERO lifting is nuts, lifting is the number one issue with extensions -many of us struggled in the beginning of our careers to reach that no-lift set. When we finally get to that point it’s like “YESSS”. Most nail products begin to break down at a molecular level with wear, contact with water, chemicals, and hormones - honestly that’s what they are designed to do, they are not permanent additions. Every client’s nails are different & it’s up to the professionals to try to help the clients understand this. Really great topic! I love the insight. Thank you for sharing

As a nail tech of nearly 20yrs I never have matching nails. I'm always trying something out, so I often cycle which nails I pick and completely take off one or two nails let them rest for the weekend and then try out something new. My clients are always checking out the designs and colors. It gives me great ideas for my clients when they want something special.

I’m definitely not a tech- I’m just now learning how to paint my nails/manicure my nails, after miraculously quitting a 32+ year nail biting habit (I say “miraculously” because one day I woke up and I literally just...stopped. No plans to do so, it just weirdly happened! I never had the urge to bite them again, and that was almost a year ago!🤷‍♀️) I usually keep a hard gel overlay on to reinforce my natural nails...and about a month ago I learned to NOT push my luck with letting it grow out too much, without a “rebalance” (yeah, I learned the hard way lol). The gel apex was basically grown out to the free edge, but I kept pushing it back to do “later”- until the day my hand decided to slam itself on the edge of the kitchen counter!! After yelling ALL of the cuss words, in all the languages I knew any cuss words in (😆) I finally looked down to see the aftermath....most nails hurt, 1 broke the entire free edge off, but most were “ok.” My thumb however .... it had broken not only the “nail”- but nearly 1/2 of my nailBED ripped up!!! It’s still growing/repairing itself, but I don’t think I’ll be repeating that same mistake again anytime soon!!!😆❤️

If my nail tech took the time to explain and educate me as simply and thoroughly as you did in this video I'd be willing to take their advice. I've had so many who don't explain what they're doing or when they want me back, when I first started getting my nails done years ago (I'm 41, so definitely before the internet was like it is now) I felt so lost and inexperienced, I just had to watch everyone around me and guess as I went.

I agree, not everybody has the lifestyle either to accommodate nail enhancements either. For example, I had a client who chipped two nails a day after I did them. I would have felt like it was my fault - if she didn't work in an Amazon warehouse moving boxes all day. Also square shape probably wasn't the best because the corners are prone to chipping. Side note, I would love to see a tutorial on stamping.

For me it depends. Sometimes I do my nails every week, sometimes I don't do them in over a month. I am happy to say that I've found a way to make my nails never have lifting, and for the few customers I have as well. When I used to have the service done by another nail tech, way before I started learning ans doing the nails by myself, my nails would lift very quickly and I can honestly say that the service quality was bad. Now I always put 2 layers of primer on the whole nail, non acid one because my nails are very sensitive, then I out the base coat and hard gel. My nails are very thin and without hard gel or polygel I can't even scratch myself. So even after a month and a half, I don't have any lifting or cracks. But I agree that for clients it is best to do the service every 3 to 4 weeks.

But then after a couple fills I wasn’t enjoying the vibe and the tech couldn’t always do styles I preferred. So I didn’t rebook and let them grow out. Finally after about 4 to 5 weeks they were just too long, so I decided to file them. There wasn’t any lifting, but I needed them shorter so I could type at work easier. As I was filing off the product, on several nails I found product that was still WET after 4+ weeks. I haven’t gone back since, nor will I.

I was always wondering why my water decals never last and make my nail goopy, I never actually thought that I would need to add some non acid primer before hand. Thank you!

I used to go to a pretty expensive salon and they did awful nails, like an untrained 12 year would do them and they'd still have the nerve to get angry at me because my nails would come off after a few days. By now I do my nails myself, they still can last up to a month, despite me skipping some steps out of laziness, working on cars, digging in the garden and taking long hot baths.

1st time seeing one of your vids but found it really helpful. I've never tried gel polish since I usually do my own nails and didn't want to buy the UV light thingy you set the gel with until I'd researched more about using gel polish. Over the years I've become really frustrated about normal polish cause honestly I'm lucky if it lasts unchipped through a day, which is a major problem since I have arthritis in my hands and honestly can't stand my natural nails uncovered. Your honesty here has finally got me to the point where my next paycheck will be used to splurge on getting everything I need to have gel nail polish on that hopefully look as nice on me as yours looked in this vid. Will be definitely subscribing and look forward to your other vids.

You don't have to splurge until you are more practiced! Amazon has some great starter kits with everything you need for around $35-40 USD. I got the Beetles brand one about a year and a half ago and it has been working awesome for me! Get a cheaper one to play around with before spending lots on one.

I am learning so much from your education. I do my daughter’s nails and we notice lifting and cracks after 2-3 weeks. Her nail grow very quickly but also unevenly across the nail plate so once the free edge grows out, it pulls off the underside of the product. Is there a way to repair the nail bed and even it up so the nail looks even from side to side. I also have uneven nail beds due to years of nail biting and tearing the nails off in layers. This set is simple and stunning. Keep up the fantastic work and videos. xxxx

Gods I WISH my nails looked like that after 3 months. MIne look like that after about 8 weeks, and that's if they don't lift off before then. I usually get 3 weeks tops out of mine before they start lifting off, and max 10 days before they REALLY need to be touched up due to half the nail being exposed. They grow super fast and are really really thin.

I have a gel overlay over my natural nails because my own nails are very soft and break easily. Without the overlay my nails would break often into the nail bed, which we all know is very painful. With the overlay I don’t have that issue anymore. My nail bed has gotten longer as I have no breakage, but my nails grow very fast. I get them filled every 2 weeks and the length taken back.

Hey girl, I just love your channel because I am studying with a school in Moscow right now and its so hard! I only speak English so I have to watch each lesson 2x and translate with Google so it's even harder. Then some things are lost through translation with the app. So I enjoy seeing the techniques I am learning broken down in English. I love your channel. I am working hard on building mine up but with only 73 subs I don't know. Anyway Good job.
