you can even see the fireman smiling. he knows what's up.

As a former 60's BR fireman equally at home on a 5 or a Brit I can honestly say that I never thought I would see the like again in my lifetime. It could almost have been a 'contrived re-enactment' of a once common sight on our railway's & certainly brought a big lump to my throat, I think there are a lot of ex BR men out there who will feel the same..... I love watching these powerful beasts running free doing what they are supposed to do.I don't care what anyone says,to me they are living breathing beings with a soul.Bless every last one of them.

Love it how the driver of the Black 5 beckoned- "get outa here" as his engine pulled ahead!! Absolutely superb footage.

I like watching these videos not just for seeing the engines but also seeing the joy and camaraderie of the people in the carriages having the time of their lives.It's more than just a train ride,it's an emotional experience which is what steam is all about.

"They're pulling away! they're pulling away!" henry puffed. His driver laughed. "Don't worry," he said, "they won't get away from us!" then, slowly but surely, henry pulled alongside the other engine. "We'll show them! We'll show them!"

I still watch this...one of my favourites of all time.Thanks

Absolutely glorious, I love how many steam locomotives the UK has preserved and how often they run on the mainline.

Had this saved in my watch later for years. Think it has to be my favourite ever steam video. Just fantastic 👏

Even now, 50 years after steam locomotives stopped pulling passenger trains, they still have the power to make people gaze in awe and wonder.

Watch this time and time again. Just wish I had been on Church Fenton Station when they both came through. A scene not likely to be repeated very often if at all again.

Love watching this over and over again with my son. Our favourite bit is when the engine driver on Black 5 sees their being overtaken and opens up!

Where else in the world would you see such a sight? And what a thrill for those standing on the station. Locomotives at speed on both sides!

In Germany they drive parallel to each other quite often. Just search "dampflok parallelfahrt" in KZread, it's awesome!

wow thats the best train clip if seen yet, and so rare that for steam engines running parallel on the mainline, its great when the black 5 draw at the same speed and you get an excellent shot of the engine. This is probably the first time since steam days this has happened EPIC :D

I can see, and see this exceptionally shot video over and over again. In fact even after watching it the number of times the steel wheels spin, there will still be a lot of excitement and involvement in being a part of this pure joy. My salutations to the experts moving these beauties so gracefully. Thanks for the video 🙏🏼

This is a fabulous racetrack for steam, beautifully shown by these two machines that found fame in 1968. I was very lucky in August 1975, my footplate ride to the Shildon celebrations on 43106 was Chesterfield to York. After we crawled through Killamarsh and Rotheram, our private train with 8F 48773 and 43106 opened out, I reckoned that for 2 scrap ex BR jobs, which were largely in ex BR condition. I reckoned we were going at 57 through Church Fenton, Steam Ban barely lifted!

It’s almost like a race between the train you are in hauled by Oliver Cromwell and this loco seen next to you 44932 with two support coaches behind it

There was no way the 5 was losing that race to the 7!! Fantastic. Even though it was load 2 v load 10. Thats why I enjoy being a main line steam registered driver. Pure perfection.

Passing by in opposite directions is rare too, when 70013 was arriving in Carlisle back in 2013 with the 1T57 anniversary train 46115 was passing us in the opposite direction.
