The extra sound would not be heard by the driver until you were almost beside the car. You do get more attention though, irate neighbors, occasional law enforcement. Thank you sir. Is a flush license plate illegal, if it can be seen slightly?

  • @SigmaSheepdog

    @SigmaSheepdog

    2 ай бұрын

    @@sir.636 It's going to depend on the laws of your state. A kinda-storta rule of thumb would be to park your bike, walk back around 20-30 feet and see how visible the numbers/letters are. If you can clearly see the plate characters, you most likely be good to go. If your state has the small registration stickers on the plate, see if you can make out the date. Also, some states require license plate illumination, so, if you are planning on riding at night, make sure that there is a light for the plate. The bottom line is, If it is reasonably visible, chances are, you won't have a problem. But, keep in mind, there are officers out there that will stop you for stupid things like a plate that isn't displayed in accordance with the law. I used to stop people that had plates tucked way up and screwed to the inner fender, which made the plate barely visible. But, just about everything else, I didn't care.

    I put a small white strobe on my R3 centre running light. It looks discreet and is not super bright, but I hope the movement is a bit more visible in mirrors, especially on dark early morning freeway commutes. It’s technically not legal here in Alberta, but I’ve passed several cops even at night with no issue. It’s not bright enough to be distracting, and being white it doesn’t impersonate ant emergency vehicle. After all, bicycles are allowed to use them...

    the federal regulation on helmets only pertains to construction of helmets sold(or what conditions manufacturers need to meet to be legal). not street legality. it's a common misinterpretation of the law by police looking to ticket riders. Unless your state has added specific laws regarding fins/spikes etc. And especially if you're ticketed for a go pro. Might be worth fighting the ticket. (don't argue with cops... odds they'll respond aggressive or abusive probably go up. don't admit to a crime just take your ticket then dispute it)

    The Yoshimura kit for the Busa keeps the plate visible and doesn't affect the rear turn signals, because, Busa. And a rectangular piece of DOT red reflective tape adhered to the flat surface above the license plate gives me some reflectivity to the rear and doesn't look as obnoxious as the stock rear reflector.

Most dumb reason to get an after market exhaust ever invented. Drivers are not hearing you because they drive in a closed off vehicle with good sound-insulation. I have an exhaust system where there is a straight section of pipe held on with quick release connectors,this allows me to get rid of the cat,but it is also reasonably easy to switch the section of pipe for the cat at MOT time.

    I've seen some newer license plate kits that are spring loaded and set to that when airflow gets above a certain point it allows the plate to push back and up, usually around 70-80+ mph depending on the bike. Considering messing with "airflow" in that area of the bike will not slow you down at all , there really is no need to tuck it up anyways.

    the only two reasons i can think of are. 1 breaking the law tuck and run. 2 going to a show, tuck the plate for pictures and so on.

    Although I don't condone hiding the plate, I study engineering and aerodynamics and disagree with your airflow statement. It creates substantial drag. Unfortunately motorcycles in general are have a terrible coefficient of drag (A Hayabusa- long time the most aero bike, now beat by CBR1000RRR was similar to a full size pickup in drag coefficient). So alot more than flipping the plate would be needed to make it somewhat efficient, but a 'more legal' fender eliminator kit is a start. I ride in a tuck even at legal highway speeds, and it's pretty easy to beat the manufacture's MPG rating, but not when I'm sitting up.

    The helmet thing is wrong. If you read the law it states "from the factory" it only works with things mounted FROM THE FACTORY if its anything thats you put onto it without compromising the rigidity of the helmet its ok. A lawsuit about this happened a bit ago when a guy got arrested for a gopro. All charges were dropped.

    @@0s0sXD Money's worth? Sure? I got it for $12,700 before tax and for a leftover from 2018, it was a steal. It needs to see the track when I have down time. A little much for the streets and it's my daily. Is owning it a life threat? I've got self control, sorta. Well, most of the time. No danger other than a few distracted drivers and close calls. I love it.
