Came over a hilltop, traffic was stopped, checked my mirrors then pulled to the shoulder ,just as the semi, behind me ,smashed the 10 cars stopped in front of me. Mirrors are a must.

You can assume that will happen at that type of bend or hill. You will ride defensively to compensate. I mirror delete and it just increases your awareness and has you shoulder checking more. Same way riding makes you more aware than a driver.

@@bearwolffish half my bikes have had mirrors, a couple only had one. Sport bikes like GSX-R, GS and CBR lost their mirrors, stands, signals, inner fenders, plate brackets , chain guards ,reflectors and passenger pegs. Mirrors are handy in a group. Hate the way they look! Ride safe!

I'm 6'4", and on my 1978 shovelhead, bobber my handlebars are about 2" below my shoulders, I find that on a long ride, it's the most comfortable for me. My 1992 Electra Glide Ultra Classic has stock bars, and I start feeling a little bit fatigued after a couple of hours on the road. I agree with mirrors that they are definitely a safety factor. I had to purchase extended mirrors for my Electra Glide because of the low bars, and all I could see was my shoulders.

The part I like the most about is that it comes on even when I am engine braking. My motorcycle's lights are off but my brake free starts flashing red behind my helmet when I engine brake

Hey Hegshot, excellent video and beard! Couple things I HEAVILY agree with are the mirrors and lights. RIVCO makes these LED Turn Signal mirrors that I have had on my Honda for about 13 years and I just got a set for my Harley from the fam for xmas. Reasons they are so great: 1) they look cool. obviously the most important reason XD 2) they have nice bright LEDs built into both the front and the back of the mirrors, the front LED acts as both running lights and turn signals (turn only on the mirrored side). 3) the mirror itself is very slightly convex, so you get such a massive field of view in each mirror. If I am on the highway and there are 5 lanes, I can see all 5 lanes in either mirror all the way up to where my peripheral vision kicks in, which makes it so it is very very easy to know where every vehicle is on the road around you.

Even when it were newer, I’d only occasionally get it inspected. I’ve never been stopped for any violation for the police to get close enough to be able to read the expired sticker to get cited for it. I’m retired LEO motor officer and never looked at or cited a rider for inspection. I’ve never seen a rider who didn’t take much better care of their motorcycle than their cars.

Selling the exhaust is not the problem, installing the exhaust when you're a licensed mechanic, is a problem. Owning a vehicle that you change the exhaust on I don't believe is a problem. That has had a case that has existed since at least 1976 if I remember properly. As I recall, was a fellow in Washington state who had a 1975 or 76 Cordoba. He had a 440 engine in it and he had taken the catalytic converter off of it. At the end of the court case Not only was it clear that he could take the catalytic converter off. Because he owned the car. Not only that they intended to prove to him that the car would run worse without the catalytic converter on, and when they tested it it was actually cleaner because he had done some upgrades to the engine to make sure it ran better. The EPA is actually running into that issue with a lot of these Mustangs that people have converted to track vehicles, and they are finding out that the engines are actually running cleaner without the catalytic converter. But that is not a normal situation. Getting an engine to run better without catalytic converters is actually a lot of work and expense. Losing the case because you're selling an exhaust system that somebody should not be putting on their bike or you're putting the exhaust system on, you got some really shity lawyers. While we're on the subject of exhaust, you do not have to have a loud exhaust, to either allow the engine to run with better efficiency, nor is it any help in safety. Loud pipes do nothing more than fatigue the operator of the motorcycle.

So on the exhaust subject, I have a Suzuki GSX 8s and there are only a handful of Manufacturers making exhausts for this bike and I opted for the one that Arrow makes. For this particular bike you have to purchase a full system, I'm not sure but it looks like there is a catalytic converter integrated into the mid pipe. It also comes with what they call a homoelongated catalytic insert no idea what it actually is but I assume it's part of the catalytic converter. After I rode my bike about 15 miles I removed the baffle ( it is welded in place along with a set screw and you have to use a Dremel tool or equivalent to remove the welds). After another 10 or 15 miles I took the can (or whatever you want to call it) off and removed the catalytic insert. Removing the baffle made the pipe considerably louder with a deeper tone, removing the catalytic insert only made it slightly louder but made the tone a little deeper. I want to get the ECU flashed because removing the baffle and catalytic insert made my bike backfire

Good video. A few remarks: asbestos is, as far as I know, only dangerous when you drill in it, saw it, break it. As long as it is left alone there is little danger. You worry about PFAS (a big thing overhere in Europe), fine, yet you seem to ride with short sleeves... I see that a lot in videos from the US. If you have an accident or even a simple fall, you will hurt yourself rather badly. Never, never ride without proper gear on! I know, when it is hot, it is not nice. Been there, done that - yet I never ride one of my bikes not properly dressed, including back- and hip protectors.

Asbestos is lethal if you breath the dust, microscopic particles that can become airborn if its even bumped.. My grandpa and dad both died of mesothelioma (asbestos) lung cancer from working in our town's power plant, they never actually touched it, but it was used as insulation for things all over the plant.. Even bumping against it caused it to get airborn, and they didn't even start spraying it or using masks while removing it for repairs until the mid 80s at his plant called IPL, or Indianapolis Power & Light.. Also prior to the mid 80's there were not any precautions for it whatsoever, dad said guys would spray it with a hose for a few seconds and pull off the asbestos wrap around leaking pipes ect, and the dust would be floating all over the place..Also said guys would use the asbestos wrap as a pillow to take naps on long overtime shifts.. He retired at 58, was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, at 61 and passed away at 63.. Lost my best friend way too early due to people keeping quiet when they knew for 15+yrs there was serious issues just to maintain selling the inexpensive products.. It was a know carcinogen for almost 70yrs before the real truth was being leaked out to workers, hidden by government and large companies/suppliers of it.. It kills 15,000 people yearly and you don't want to mess with stuff that is a known carcinogen.. They will say sorry years later, if its known yet still being pushed out its fucked up and I will never wear another helmet without checking for this first... Our govt doesn't care about us, they just want our tax money..

PFAS is something that I would be interested to find out more about. Which manufacturers use it and which don't. I have an Indian Pursuit, and I'm all about being seen. My ONLY criticism so far are the blinkers. I do wish that they wrapped a little further around the fairing. I believe that my next upgrade will be bag lights with running, brake, and turn lights. I've always been a little confused about deleting the catalyc converter. If it's a federal mandate to have one, then how is it allowable for manufacturers to make crossovers that delete the catalyc converter? Very good information. Keep up the videos.

Most new bikes (cruisers) have handlebars that are more than 15 inches above the seat. Also, I’ve always been told that it was integrity. I had 14s on my Dyna, 25ish? Inches above the seat and it didn’t impede my vision at all.

  • @Garrett1986

Re handlebars, I've never seen anyone pulled over for handlebars (GA and FL are where I've ridden most). I *have* seen cops threaten to add that to the ticket during a stop for something else, but even then, nothing came of it. I'm 6'2 and over the years went from 12" to 14", up to 16" on my old Road King, and presently I run 18" bars on a Road Glide, and those have been on there for 11 years now. Never had a cop even comment on my bars, even during traffic stops, and I don't find personally that they restrict my ability to see or maneuver the bike in any way. Not saying any of this applies *generally* - I'm sure someone somewhere has been pulled over for it - but this has been my experience over 20 years of riding.

I said NO! I earned those battle-scars. They are my character. They can pry it off my melon. I have an add-on DOT sticker because it is refurbished military, but simple inspection shows it to have every required DOT component. I also have a cheap Chinese DOT Compliant helmet that comes with a factory sticker but is clearly inferior. Take your pick?

I have seen people stopped for handlebar heights at Sturgis and Daytona and down by the Tail of the Dragon. The police officer at one of those stops actually got a yard stick long level out of his trunk to verify the bars were not higher than shoulder height. Lake Geneva, Wisconsin they will check the sound of your exhaust with a decibel meter. This year (2024) at Bike Week in Daytona there were multiple citations issued for people cracking on their throttle. It’s all over KZread. California is wrecking motorcycles for the rest of the country. And Illinois, where I live, is quickly following suit. There’s a bunch of changes in the works. Indiana State Police have pulled me over for my GoPro mount on my helmet. I was not cited. The Trooper gave me an earful though. He referenced a Federal Law regarding the manufacture of motorcycle helmets. Some choppers are set up with rear brake only. In some states this is illegal. A motorcycle needs a front and rear brake in most states over 125 cc’s in most states. Also a motorcycle in many of those states is defined as being over 125 cc’s and made to be operated on the roadway. Indiana anything over 50 cc’s is a motorcycle. Some states it’s illegal to wear a tinted visor, or dark lens glasses after dusk. I can’t find the state that actually has a law against it currently.(There is at least one. It was pointed out in my group last year on one of our trips. I’ll keep looking.) Some states have a section on it in the “State Motorcycle Manual” (I didn’t know these were a thing until recently?). I am informed that you would cited under a reckless driving statute.

Motorcyclists in South Carolina don't have to wear a helmet. But some people still wear a helmet. Not all helmets are protective. The bandana full of hard stinky sweat on hot days.

I look at all this, the same way as I look at drinking and driving. (as a former firefighter, emt etc). If you want to get totally smashed and drive. .go for it. As long as you are on your own land. But, the moment you get on the street where your actions can increase the risk to others on the road, without their permission.... Nope.

Minnesota runs a separate check on the engine number. The number appears on the title right under the vin, and if engines are swapped the new title has to be issued with the new number on it. If the bike the engine came from has been reported stolen, you're in possession of stolen merch and possibly gonna be arrested. I'm literally about to do this on Tuesday with an empty frame I just bought. The donor bikes were both parted out.
