    As a 3.0 player, not only do my opponents never know where my serves will go or how hard they'll be... neither do I! I guess I'm naturally doing it right!🤪

    I love your tip about serving directly to the person. I’ve had so many people who are thrown off by that one while they can easily return forehand and backhand shots. It’s especially useful if they are the type to hug the baseline as you serve.

    Excellent video! I'm a lefty and feel super comfortable with a backhand drop sidespin serve that is super lethal. Add wind factor and it will bend 4 feet across a court. I also use a drop top spin forehand serve, but sometimes get the yips with it and go back to my comfortable sidespin drop backhand.

    I only try 'tricky, fancy serves' only when I'm ahead by at least 3-4pts. Standard serves must be constantly 100% in firstly, then 75% deeper. Keep it simple for a start.

    Do you have a video for the side spin and the underspin servers? A close-up/slow-motion view of how the paddle moves would be ideal. I'm working on those serves, but it still needs a lot of work.

    What you can do is go frame by frame on youtube. You'll do that with the "," and "." keys. The comma for back and the period for forward. If you're having trouble. Google KZread hotkeys. I don't believe we yet have anything closer up than what is shown here in this video.

    On your sidespin serves, all except one had some amount of low to high motion when you contacted the ball so they would have been legal as volley serves too. I loved the tip for using the drop serve to chop down with backspin - that's cool.

    Yeah, if you really swing at a sidespin shot… you’re flirting in a bad way with it being not low to high. If you hit a slower side spin with more loft then you can do it.

    Hi Nicole, watching you hit I believe you have been borrowing my playbook :). I use all of these except number 6 the slice forehand off the drop. I will have to give it a try. I have been the recipient of a serve used indoors that has so much backspin the ball literally stops moving forward on the bounce (usually it doesn't come up) and it seems to fool me every time. Is this your number 6 serve or something else? The other thing I noticed was how big your backswing is and how hard/deep these serves are landing ... I am guessing as much control as you appear to have your opponents will be struggling to hit good returns. I will be hitting the practice court when it warms up.

  • @primetimepickleball

    @primetimepickleball

    Hi Jim, Yes, the slice that skids and barely bounces is the the one I mean. My "seemingly" big back swing is actually due to a strong shoulder turn. I use my body rotation to hit it. Thanks for the kind words and thoughtful comment! Yes, hit that practice court. :)

    Can you do serve video with the c motion vs taking paddle straight back? I am experimenting with each to see which is more consistent and allows me deeper serve.Does starting c motion high effect consistency vs taking paddle straight back and through ? I use the c motion from your video on my third shot drives and it’s very powerful, is that pretty much same c motion for serve?

    One suggestion is to just learn to hit a drop serve exclusively. That way no one can question it. I had the same thing happen where someone questioned my volley serve and it got it to my head. With a drop serve, as long as you just drop it and let it bounce, you can do whatever you want! The only time it might be more difficult is on super windy days!

    True, you can put sidespin without a drop. Point taken. I was referring to a heavy bend sidespin which would walk too fine a line on being legal in my view. Sorry if that wasn’t clear enough.

    I suggest that serves 6 and 7 would be legal as volley serves. “The server’s arm must be moving in an upward arc at the time the ball is struck with the paddle”. When ball struck, your arm is going upward.
