    How important is general fitness for adult beginner swimmers? For instance, kicking requires a lot of energy and can be very tiring, so if you can't float easily, and kicking is tiring, that can be quite discouraging when a beginner is learning forward movement in water.

    Great question. Quick answer is fitness is not important for the beginner swimmer. As a matter of fact swimming is highly recommended as a way to become fit. There are much easier ways to move through the water than vigorous kicking. Watch out for an upcoming video about kicking.
