For our long time followers, scarf-tying may be a familiar topic. And we did film a video back in 2014, and we think it needed an update. Also, we always strive to do better, so today, we share 7 of our favorite ways to tie a scarf for a truly classic cold-weather ensemble.
00:00 7 Men's Scarf Knots Introduction
Best Scarf Knots for Gentlemen
First of all, all these ways to tie a scarf require a scarf that’s between 70 to 75 inches long. If it’s shorter, it won’t look as good. Why is that? Well, you won’t have enough scarf left at the end of the knot to actually tuck it in so it keeps you warm and looks dapper.
Whenever you buy a scarf, definitely check the length, for example, the Burberry scarf I reviewed was too short. The Fort Belvedere scarves that you can find on our website all have the proper length. On the flip side, the scarf is much longer, you just have a lot of material to work with and if you tuck it into your coat it just makes you look bigger.
Our 7 favorite knots in order from the least involved or least secure to the more involved or more secure knots:
02:07 1. The Over-the-Shoulder
03:17 2. The Once-around Chest Warmer
04:11 3. The Loop Tie
06:14 4. The Knotted Once-around
07:20 5. The Pull-through Knot
08:14 6. The Count
09:29 7. The Modified Four-in-Hand Knot

@@aurin_komakSo, in the New Testament, Jesus essentially poked fun of the upper classes. A big part of that was the hypocrisy surrounding how they painted themselves as perfect (including with their clothing), while their behavior was as bad as it gets. So, I'd say God is all for dressing like a gentleman, but you should also behave like a gentleman for any of it to count. That's why I don't understand the modern hate for religion. The Bible is a very good book to read for anyone, you don't even have to be religious. It tells you a lot about how to be a good and exemplary person. I'm not exactly religious, but I try to stick to most of its guidelines.

That tie beautifully compliments the outfit and the tweed jacket is one of my favourite things that I see Raphael wear on the channel (probably the only thing that I love more is Raphael’s double breasted charcoal flannel suit, which I swear I’m only mildly obsessed with and definitely need to get one myself!)

I admire you for keeping style alive. I had to explain to someone why wool is superior to the "fleece" blankets sold in stores (which are polyester, also known as plastic). They did not know that wool socks were better than the other socks sold in stores. They had posted a general question which was something like, "If an ice storm hits our city again this winter, what are the best ways to stay warm?" Anyway, at least they will be buying wool socks and blankets. They will be cozy now.

I'm sorry, but I've had wool clothes which are both cold and uncomfortable, but never a cold fleece. The only thing I find better about wool is it feels cleaner; polyester encourages unpleasant microbes. I'd love to live all natural, but I'm very sensitive to cold and very much notice the difference. However, I haven't tried thick all-wool jumpers in recent years. It's possible my bad memories of wool are based on the very old clothes I had when I was little, especially one jumper. I'm thinking the numerous washes it had been through may have destroyed the microscopic fibres which stop the air from circulating and make it a better insulator. (In synthetics, Thinsulate was developed to have similar microscopic fibres.) But I have had a recent bad experience with wool socks. A few years ago, a gentlemens' outfitters sold me some wool socks as "good for winter", but they are useless for warmth! An ordinary pair of synthetic sports socks with no pretensions to warmth are much better for me in winter. They're thicker, and especially with the help of boots, they trap air just fine. All in all, I have to suspect the "wool is better" is just a holdover from before the development of Thinsulate.

  • @BlackSeranna

@@eekee6034 did you actually look at the tag and see that it said “100% wool”? There are a lot of terrible clothes being sold right off the rack that are not well made, and they feel like wool but they aren’t. When you have something made out of alpaca or wool, you have a very warm garment.

  • @eekee6034

    @eekee6034

@@BlackSeranna There's no tags on the socks, of course. The first time I had a problem with a jumper was in 1980 and I don't suppose it had been made later than 1975, so I doubt it was anything but wool. I'm sorry I can't give you a more objective reply. I do have a classic Norwegian jumper somewhere. I'll try it when I can find it. I have noticed that keeping the wind out is the most important thing. I almost always wear a rain-proof outer layer as it totally blocks the wind.

Hello, I love your videos, could you guys consider making a video about children's/teenager's suits/clothing? I'm in high school and still not at my permanent height yet, so when purchasing a new suit my parents will usually tend to buy one a big larger than usual so I can grow into it. Another aspect is price, we usually buy from Ralph Lauren, and they're not too keen on spending $133 for the Suit Jacket made from wool, and instead opt for the "Blazer" made of Polyester.

My dad was never a scout. But he used to be a mountain guide in northern Sweden. He used to wear his scarf with a woggle like the scouts. It was a Sami piece made from reindeer antlers. A brown Harris tweed jacket over. Gray riding breeches and brown boots. A dark grey felt hat, almost a sombrero Cordobés, on top of that. Aged 90 on our Connemara pony I would guess you would have to call him a gentleman.

I think it would also be a serviceable fabric and design as a Car Coat. Two: I remember a photograph showing two allied officers during WW-2, one American and the other a Royal Army officer in a Paras Smock with a scath fold with a knot that came over the top from within and broadly spread out and into the zippered Smock. Not sure what knot it was though it seemed to resemble a cravat.

Being severely colourblind, I’ve learned color “rules”, one of which is that green does not pair well with other greens….then I watched the last few minutes of this video….now I’m totally lost 😩

I think your overcoat is a bit small for everything you are wearing. Between the vest, thick tweed jacket, and depending on the style of wearing the scarf. the overcoat seems lumpy at times. Maybe if you ditched the vest or had a thinner jacket. The video on the scarves themselves, spot on.

I love how fashion goes round and round so you a guy dressing like a old school man dresses the same things as me a trans woman.
