7 Signs You’re About To Be Fired from work, find out if you are getting fired from your job. Are you wondering if you are about to lose your job? These signs are an indication that you might have reached the end of your journey in your current role, that your job is in a danger, that your manager or boss might be firing you immediately.
First sign and a very clear one for most of the employees being laid off is: When your boss does not like you, your boss dislikes you, your boss hates you. The relationship with your manager is crucial for any position and any company you will be working at. You you boss doesn’t like you and is not pleased with how you work.

When You're placed on a PIP (Performance Improvement Plan)... The worst part is that HR is "not your friend" in this situation, they protect the company’s interests so be careful with what you discuss with them. You’re only a tool to get results, use HR as a tool to get your results as well.

    You’re awesome. That was absolutely the right thing to do. Most of the time a company does this, their intention is to let that person go and the PIP is a way of covering their asses.

    In the NHS they call it a "supported improvement plan" and say it is not disciplinary action. It does appear in their disciplinary policy (NHSGG&C) though as actions that can be taken against staff alongside verbal and written warnings. My experience came as a result of false allegations, that I could disprove but management were determined to take this forward as they didn't know I had recorded them - when they found out they dropped the "plan" but pushed me out the door by refusing to provide "reasonable adjustments". I will have the last laugh when this is publicised, recordings and all!

    I had a manager that didn't like me no matter what I did. The process of being fired was slow and painful, and the PIP was little more than a show trial with constantly moving goalposts. The rejection hurt but I came to realise that despite my flaws, I could have been perfect and it still wouldn't have been enough.

If I am honest I am still a bit upset about my situation, it really damaged my confidence and made me feel like there's something fundamentally wrong with me, to the point that I feel any employer will now treat me the same.

    I quite understand, as I had a good for nothing boss in Tennessee who did nothing at all but condemn me and constantly stuck me on the crapp list then started playing head games. There were may other things such as minor silly infractions that weren't the end of the world, however to him, it was, and he was a heavy cocaine addict and abuser so, you can see just exactly what I had to deal with with that idiot. He won, I lost, and just decided to resign than allow him to screw me around and mess up my future any more than it was after I got done working for that jerk.

    I don't judge but companies gave me the double of my last wage each time I have been fired. The worst, I am super afraid to lose my job each time. I was not a good job seeker so I did entrepreneur experience instead of working in a business. Some businessmen consider if you are good enough to do 6 million in 4 months, you deserve better than 30,000$ par years and much more responsibilities. This is often a problem related to the power trip from my manager or other employers who refused to work with me.

    Worked at a datacenter where i was doing the workload of 6 people. Saw all the signs that i would be let go. Right before leaving they asked for me to write up documentation on how i do my job. I outright refused, and this became the point they fired me. About a week later they were calling me in a panic at midnight because no one on site knew how to run month end processing, or tasks like regulating the tempature of the facility, leading to causing overheating, outages, and penalties .Never, ever, write a manual for your replacement. If you can be replaced so easily, they can afford the costly mistakes of figuring it out together with your "cheaper" replacement.

    You don't have to always leave!!! Continue to work by executing your duties. Most of the time when this happens is because your manager sees you as a threat! So what- you have bills to pay, screw their emotions. When you keep showing up, it's making them more eager to fire you but can't cause you're giving them no real reason to. God has us going through circumstances like the work place for the season for a reason. Colossians 3: 23-25 This is for somebody; Don't Quit!!!

    I did that with one of my first employers. My idiot supervisor who NEVER liked me had the audacity to try and sway my decision to leave after a year of employment. He said and I quote "you know you don't look happy here, have you every thought about finding other opportunities?". The arrogance on this a$$hole was nothing I had ever experienced before. I was going to quit that day but then I realized I wasn't going to give him the satisfaction so I ended up staying for almost another year. He had no reason to fire me until one day I showed up 5 minutes late because of a traffic accident on my way way to work. This was reason enough for him to let me go. Still want to punch this guy in the mouth to this day.

    I have heard of other employees being fired and they end their life. The company never talks about it even though it was in the local news. That is super stressful to have that happen here in America.

    These experiences are always traumatic and sometimes tragic. Which is why we can never give a job so much power over our emotional health. Being an efficient and professional employee has nothing to do with being completely obsessed with work.

    @@TigerPaint92 You are 1000% correct, I would NEVER kill myself over some junk ass job nor would I go to prison killing some supervisor (who is a damm employee like me anyways). Its all in the mind. Think of it as a contractor. If I am a home re modeler or electrician and the customer does not like your work and fires you, do you think the contractor would go home and hang himself? Why would it be any different if your an electrician working for someone? I pray people have some type of job skill they can bring elsewhere. Its all about confidence.

    This happened to me. I was once an individual contributor. What's ridiculous was that they were discussing to me about PIP like they have an actual program, but they were still drafting it. Another thing that was disgusting was that they didn't even have performance metrics in place. All they had was verbal feedback, which was subjective in nature. It was indeed unfair in many levels. I never signed up for the PIP. I left. Blessing in disguise, the endeavor I had after them is that I am now an IT operations senior supervisor of one of the best companies here in our city. The best come back ever.

    I had the hint when our new manager came in. I was over loaded with work. Finishing at 10pm and sometimes 11pm for an entry role. I was forced to stay and finish. I was overworked it took a hit on my mental health. Other work colleagues even noticed that I am not fairly treated. He did not care. He once said he’s dog is better than humans.. mind you I was the only coloured lad in the office. I had to apologise to things I did not do. I remained positive throughout and left on good note. As I was loosing it mentally. I decided to leave without even having a job in line. Best decision I ever made.

    I was at my job for 17yrs when by boss passed. me and my help took over.it was ok until they brought in a another boss that did no work just sold work he started to change stuff move people around basically he brought in his son &nephew they could not read blueprints or do anything. every thing changed these kids sucked we buttedheads he took my truck give it back told me I was the best and learned from the best.so let do my thing with my helper and will take care of it .well he told me he never has fired or paid out on unemployment .so at that moment forward I set out to get fired. you quit no unemployment .I came in and left early come in late finally he fired me so I drawed unemployment i told him the man that was the best .told me you always learn from other people don't be a know it all because someone might show you a better way

    I had this happen to me with one job. I was constantly being yelled at and was walking on eggshells every day. They also liked to gaslight me as well. After a month and half I left as I knew this was a toxic environment and I deserve better.

    Glad you did manage to get out safely and yes you deserve better. I have pity for those employers since they couldn't behave professionally and handle things like adults. I was an artist at a game studio and one fine beautiful day, the new boss came and decided to fuck up an already good line up of a team, we've been there for years and he fired more than half of them and hire the freshly graduate sprouts. I was among those who stayed but he made a very toxic environment, especially the play favorite game, gaslighting, blaming game and shit like that. I knew I have to leave and during the meeting, he accused me of having bad attitude and all of issues in the world, including his failing management and such just because i was not one of those butt kissing and he couldn't manipulate me. I physically punch him in the face and we got to the police nearby but definitely worth it. That studio appeared to be very professional to everyone but not so much i guess since people don't know much what actually happened behind the door.

    what astonishes me is that we are raised to tell the truth, be kind et and when you get to the corporate world it is anything but. It is snide, hidden, unfair, mind games and if you're super sensitive like I am I feel it all. I had to leave a huge corporate job due to a jealous colleague, who was, ostensibly better at the job that me but she enjoyed her underhand tactics and humiliating me, that was what hurt that she got away with being conniving. I luckily have a teaching certificate and took a year out to get over it.

    Most firings have more to do with simple fact the boss not liking you rather than poor performance. If they call you into their office for a write up or a negative performance review, just leave. The Titanic has struck the iceberg and it's time to abandon ship.

    That is so true. In my 1st job I invested a lot in productivity and avoided socializing at the office to not waste time, I was terminated and replaced by someone else. I had another collegue in my team with a family that only worked 4h/day at most but he invested a lot in his relationship with the manager. In my new job, I am trying to cultivate more a meaningful relation with my manager and avoiding being too goal oriented. I am much more liked at my new company then I was at my last and even if my performance got worse my manager is more empathetic and gives me better reviews than my older manager.

    The unions here in the UK will advise you not to quit your job but will not offer any tangible support either. They seem to look at as, so we lost a member, hey ho, the next employee will probably join. A lot of NHS managers were once reps themselves so they know that the union (Unison) are total crap and they have nothing to fear! Jeez Unison even turn on supportive reps and force them out the door. My advice, don't work for the NHS and if you do don't join Unison! Check trustpilot first!

    Almost every single point you mention reflect what I have been through and, surpsigly, I intuitively developed some coping strategies to deal with toxic work environment and boss. Micromnangent, exclusion/avoidance, removal of big tasks I used to do, and blaming were the major signs. I managed by hard work, acomplishig my tasks and meeting the deadlines as well as documentation of my achievements. Howeve, the mistakes I committed were confrontation, challenging my boss and complaining to coworkers - all turned against me. I experienced all the pain of stress, desperation and depression but, luckily, I survived mainly because the whole issue was from my direct boss and not part of the whole institution and my assignment was temporary after which I had to move to another location within the same institution with new boss and work environment. I will add your advice to my repertoire. Thank you so much for your valuable channel and for the great guidance you provide. Big like and subscription

    It doesn’t have to be your boss. You can be outsourced and taken by surprise. It happens in many fields. If you’re being pushed out. Change departments or companies. Who needs to feel like killing oneself or being depressed. You may see your job on a job site. Some bosses are so sneaky that you won’t know what hit you.

    Thank you for helping me heal from the many experiences where I have been psychologically abused, gaslit and had damage done to me in the form of depression, anxiety, fear and outright abuse as a hard working , courteous,helpful and thoughtful person with a disability. Even though the disability is not one that affects the work I do as it is manual labour. I always feel I am started off on a lower playing ground of value. Even though I work non stop even doing more than I'm asked to try to make everyone's life better.

    all this sign happened to me and I was put in PIP..PIP is really hell..I hope I didn't experience that again..at the end I was forced to resign..I have worked really well with previous manager..but the new manager didn't like me and she want to take employee that she trust..and the blame game is real..everything blame it to me..even small matter..

    I just started my work in a school 2 weeks ago and the leader of the team I am in has already shown her dislike towards me. In the first 3 days of me working, she told everyone (including the school coordinator) that I cannot do anything. She would critize me about everything in everytime. She also avoids my presentation when I'm around her and limits any kind of interaction & conversation with me. Tbh I really REALLY DO HOPE to get fired asap rather than to stay and work together with toxic leader. I cannot resign yet since I am working under contract until mid 2025.

    Excellent video and information to say the least. I’ve been through all the crap he listed expect the PIP. I did 11 years for a huge DOD company and made them money through my efforts on proposals only to be fodder in the end. Sorry to be “jaded” but if you’re loyal to a company you’re a fool. I got a good severance package but the stress wasn’t worth it. His video is really good as it hit 90% of the “slow death” techniques my old company used.

I am not saying that the employee is always right, but even if one wants to learn, improve and get better, they can still easily get rid of you and make your life a living hell. At least you are now out of that place, step by step and you'll be feeling better. The damaged self-esteem, which these situation produce, is soon going to be fully repaired.     I experience some of this and my boss was very rude to be until late December on a Friday night, it was about my hours being cut 😑 that’s when she was being nice to me again but I still ended up leaving because of how petty that was

    My boss ignored me, never listened to me when I tried informing her about not being trained properly with correct information, tried telling her how coworkers were isolating me and not trying to give me correct info because they’d all say I was her favorite, workplace mobbing…. The list goes on 😂 She was finally happy when she took me to another department saying I’d be trained to take over someone’s position because they were about to go on vacation and no one wanted to learn his machine since it was one of the most difficult in the building. An hour into being trained, I get informed I’m permanently staying in that department by someone else 😂 I’m staying a few more weeks just so the guy can take his vacation because he’s so sweet and actually trying to help me learn what he knows but afterwards I’m out

    What about when your hours are constantly being cut? What about when Human Resources are giving you dirty looks or directly laughing at you every time they see you? I had this one part-time job where I kept on asking for more hours, but my hours kept on getting reduced. One time, I said to my supervisor, "You could have put me in that slot there." His reply was, "Just leave the schedule the way it is." Next week, it was the same position and we had the same conversation. About one month later, the supervisor walks up to me and said, "George is retiring from the company and we are doing a collection for a retirement gift. Do you want to contribute?' My reply was, "You keep on cutting my hours and now you are asking me for money? Here is what I am going to do. All those hours that you took away from me, that's my contribution to this guy's retirement gift." His reply was. "Okay, forget it."

    I was fired once by a Zoom call. Worse, I asked to return my diabetic medication that was left in my drawer, but no one responded. So my attorney contacted them and they sudden reply they couldn't find it. My manager had it thrown away knowing very well that I had type 2. How lower can you sink as a person?

    Years ago, I remember hearing in the news about fired post office workers, coming back on the job & going postal. 🔫😂 But its not worth it. Just apply for unemployment benefits, while looking for another job. And if you happen to figure out that you are about to be let go; Just quietly, start looking for another job. Because you just might found another job before you are let go.     Many years ago. I was asked to train someone to do the work I do. Nobody knew how to do the job, and I pretty mutch learned how on my own. Then they put me on a performance improvement plan for something someone else did. I refused to sign, handed over my badge, and walked out. They were left high and dry. Then they really started to loose money big time, and it was really hitting them on their profit, and loss statement.

    A company that I worked for a few years ago had an HR director and she was my boss. When she came into the office and I said Good Morning, she avoided me. She would go to a lady sitting near me and loudly greet her with happiness. I was laid off, not fired because there were other people laid off during Covid but, I remembered she told me when I first started working there that she laid off some people because she didn't like them. I must have been a person she decided to lay off. I was so happy because I don't want a boss like that.

    My manager's manager was mentoring me. She found a better position at another heath care organization, and left. My manager proceeded to fire me and the other two employees who had been hired originally by her boss. Everything at the organization was done on the cheap.(Two of the three positions had required professional licenses. This manager demoted the jobs to avoid having to pay a fully qualified professional. When serious legal complications ensued fourteen months later, the manager was fired without notice.) My question: how/why is there zero professional oversight in some of these places? Their very existence is brought into jeopardy by managers who attempt "cost saving" measures that ultimately ruin the organization. Then, remaining management refuse to take responsibility for past chaos that almost destroyed their own careers. I don't think the American work force is in good shape at all. I write this in August, 2022, during a period of enormous inflation and recession. Even though they're already short-staffed, many organizations continue to hemorrhage employees. The American economy is in free fall and there doesn't seem to be a bottom. I am very glad that I no longer have to work.

All these layoffs and firings,and in June,they hire college graduates for a dollar a hour above minimum wage!!     I have recently realized why I get panic attacks at jobs is because of past job abuses that took places and though I keep getting back up bc nobody else will pay for my bills, I have become traumatized/have work-related ptsd ....     I like the way he frames it as you being a human and this not defining your existence. Being fired is emotionally disturbing. Its social rejection. There was a person studying the KKK as infiltrated it and was socially rejected by it or something like that. Even though the person hated the organization in the first place, they still documented it hurt to get rejected.

    These are very good points. I would add that if the company has you doing menial task outside of the scope of your JD, (for instance, having you come in in Jeans and a T-shirt to move things around) it shows they don't respect you. That is a good sign that you're about to go. A new manger, _or new ownership,_ can mean bad news. They may keep key people in place for a year or so in case they need them, and then sayonara. Best to just leave. Also, if the company says that they will retrain you on a new system that's replacing an old one, they're most likely lying. Plan to be told goodbye when they're confident the new system is running smoothly. Just leave. If they ask you to write a job description, say goodbye. If they ask you to train a new employee, tell them your training fee is $300/hr. (I'm not kidding). A PIP is not only a bad sign, but they will make it unfair, and try to trip you up if they can. Also, if they're giving you a PIP, it's only a matter of time. Bye! Don't be afraid of your managers, or even the owner(s). If you can defend your situation/performance, do it before you leave. Let them know what was unfair about their treatment of you. if they're treating other associates better than you for the same thing, point that out too. Have a GTH (go to hell) fund, or have a side hustle to fall back on so you can leave immediately, and on your own terms. Don't give them time to react, and don't give them a 2-week notice. If they are replacing a whole department of, say, 5 to 10 people, being the first one out the door will do you well, as it means you're not competing with your co-workers for available positions at other companies. Corporations don't give a flying four-iron about you, and will throw you under the bus to save their own skin; no remorse, and no regret. Who do you think pushed for the _at will state_ laws? They don't worry about you; don't worry about them. If you think your company is phasing out a department, and you find work at a place where there are multiple openings, call your former coworkers and tell them you found a place that's hiring pulling them away from your former job before that company is ready. Never, ever, take a counter offer. If you do though, get it in writing, ask for double you salary, a minimum time frame for them, make it one sided (your side), and have an attorney review it. Make them pay for the attorney.

    Jr IT Support at a publicly traded company. I have solved 99% of tickets on the same day; always professional and polite to everyone; took multiple initiatives; helped company save money on new security camera systems; started a comprehensive IT asset database; resolved issues they used to deal with by reinstalling Windows...many more to list. 3 months later my manager said to my face "I can grab a high schooler off the street and they can do your job". I have resolved many issues that he failed to. I also caught an IP belonging to a hidden device somewhere that was seeding torrents & mining cryptos, to which he said was not that big of a deal. Gave me the ultimatum today - accept 2 months of extended probation and behave, or walk.

Just don't do or say anything criminal. However, the biggest no-no on a job is to give your honest opinion about something without regard to offending someone. That's how I got fired the second time around.

    Wow, this sounds so familiar. Last year I was laid off on 4/1 due to loss of business from COVID. The manager who recruited me to the company (a friend) had left a few months earlier after only being there around 8 months. That was bad sign #1. I was pushing 50 and the average age at the company was around 25-26. Bad sign #2. I had a conflict with the director above me. Bad sign #3. I'd just come off of a bad employee review (many items I could tell came directly from this director I hated). Bad sign #4. Then, one day I came into work with 4 or so new team members out of the blue! They'd been transferred in from other projects that had been cancelled. I was asked to onboard another person with my title, but lower salary and half my age. A couple of days later I got the layoff notice. Strange deja-vu based on what you're saying.

    That's how it works, just as one of the comments pointed out, it's a slow death and they do it step by step. There is hardly anything you could have done to be successful in such situation. The worst part is the stress, because it's a huge psychological pressure.

    And it's incredible how they've also asked you to onboard these people, that's like sticking to the manual 100%, without even trying to hide it. In most cases, such managers/companies want to intimidate you first, so you'd leave your job by yourself, which for some people is completely out of question. I hope you are in a much better place right now, you have so much to offer, any company would be lucky to get you onboard!

    After my company acquired another company, there was overlap in my role. However, I was offered a choice of either a layoff (RIF) or a position that was open for 2 yrs in the new acquisition company. I took the new role, as my boss was always supportive & had me do a plant tour as he was to visit them since he was to be there a week later, but it was secretly an interview. My question is, does that mean I should still send my resume out, even those I was told this was a lateral move?

    @@myemmotion I was told the person who was there before me was promoted, he is still there. They say when my company acquired them, they hold off filling the role until the sale was completed. Once it was done, COVID hit, and everything was put on hold. That is why it took two yrs to fill. I just think it’s fishy they had me do an interview in secret to see if I/they wanted me for the position, instead of telling me the truth. My resume is current, and I’m seeing what is out there, but not pushing any panic button yet. Thanks for the analysis!

And as I said, if they've been going on without this role for 2 years, it might not be such an important/strategic role for them. You say "yes" to all, but keep looking for another option. If things go great, you might not need to do any changes, but I have a feeling that you won't like this new role much.

    No one person can fire anyone in my company. It takes a process (1 warning) (2. Formal warning accompanied by a trade union rep) (3. No improvement - a team looks at the issues, and you may be fired) But this may also mean being placed on performance management. However, this may end up in a tribunal case, which is free for an employee to file. If you're being excluded from info that would enhance your productivity, it's definitely a case for tribunal case for unfair dismissal, and as long as it can be proved, there could be a hefty payout.

    HR supervisor does not like me at all, because i guess i do not need a lot of instruction or not a needy person and can see through BS. Not easily manipulated as well. I shared personal medical health information with them that could have an affect on bathroom visits due to new meds, told them no one else. That PIH was shared with her hairdresser who is my ex sister in law, who in turn tells my ex and the very next day my ex calls me to ask about this health change and told me how he found out. How is this legal???

    The problem with HR Pros is their qualifications don't cover Group Dynamics or any Management knowledge whatsoever. As a former victim of bullying and a holder of a Diploma in Management, I can tell you that Micro Management isn't necessarily a sign of bullying and can be mistaken for insecurity by misuse of Leadership Style eg: Exploitive Authoritative - a common mistake made by even experienced Managers, and should not be taken alone as a pre-cursor to Termination. Managers make the mistake because they aren't actually qualified eg: they don't hold a Management Diploma at all, as their main credential is in another subject. Most are nothing more than a semi-decent admin type, and business admin is not difficult to grasp - but Managers they most certainly are not, hence the reason for bullying in the first place, which is - inadequacy...... Most are incompetent, the very thing they will almost certainly try to get you on. So you suggest applying for jobs, which means resignation time - actually that's the last thing you should do - as once you leave, you cannot gather evidence and it's more difficult to take action under the umbrella of 'constructive dismissal'. You must gather evidence and take them to an employment tribunal.

    My current situation. I'm federal, dealing with workman compensation, knowingly false accusations, harassment, discrimination, etc. My post is trying to accomplish 3 things with me. Death, fired, quit They've violated my rights in many ways. People say im a punk for not getting into a physical/verbal altercation with me. (No matter how right you're. DO NOT do this. Get them on paperwork, file a lawsuit, etc.) I remain professional and mostly non-verbal. Document everything. What sucks too is that the entire post, Director, Zone Mgm, etc are all in cahoots with everyone. Bad behavior is promoted. I know I have a strong case of EEO, Workman's compensation, and a piss-poor union. Sadly, they will never be held accountable. You will be fired. People have to worry about their families and paying bills.

    I was the victim of illegal discrimination by the SSA in Jax Florida. I let it go and did not file any type of formal complaint as it was an entry level position which was nearly all black females and being a white man I just wouldn't fit in no matter what.

    4 years back I got appointed in a school as a teacher.. And my boss here tells me that she is not happy with me , I am not doing enough, apart from teaching( as I am a primary teacher), do something else. Whenever I meet her always saying me the same words.. she is not happy, not okay with me. Even though it's her first year as a boss(newly appointed). I don't know what to do, i hv started doubting myself, am I not good enough for this job or should I leave .? Is Anyone here who can suggest me ? ( Sorry for my bad English 🙏, as i belong to non English background)

    Happened to me, my boss brought in someone else, asked me to train him on one ofmy accounts, saying that he wanted the new guy to help me woth the work. My boss thought I was dump, but i had the information earlier enough... I trained the guy with full dedication, and in 2 mos, we had become great buddies with the new guy and learnt we had studied in the same foreign country. My boss yelled at the new guy once and he got a taste of his own medicine. 3 mos, he decided he didnt need this guy. He called me to a meeting and revealed his hidden agenda. I asked him to continue with his plan, stating the guy was a great fit for the replacement, esp with my cauching. The guy was transferred to another dept. We remained great buddies though which pissed my boss. 1 yr later, the new guy left the company for better.

    I was fired 2 weeks after my promotion to supervisor. Had been there for 1 year, and had 3 raises total. My last raise, I was moved into salary. Then they canned me. Wow.

    That's ridiculous. They must have been happy with your job, giving you raises and promoting you. Did anything happen during these 2 weeks at the new role?

    @@myemmotion Nope. My first background check, they were fine with it. Up for the promotion, second background check. They let me go.

    @@mrtwister9002 Post-employment background checks can't be used as a reason to fire someone, especially after previous background checks/raise, etc. There must have been someone else going on, either way that is extremely unprofessional from their side. They could have at least given you a certain reason/explanation.

    @@myemmotion Thank you for responding. Your comment is encouraging. I plan to file with the EEOC and am currently applying for UI. This whole experience has been heart breaking for me. On a side note, they NEVER offered me a chance to explain, they said, "We spoke to HR and there is nothing we can do." The report was a state wide search, they fired me for a conviction that wasn't even on the copy of the report, as the conviction was in a different State.

    @@mrtwister9002 You are very welcome, I definitely know what you mean. It's an emotionally draining experience which affects your health and peace of mind. File that complaint, they had all the background search done while hiring you, nothing had changed a year after. Best of luck and keep me posted!

    I hope you make a video about HR. My impression on how things work with HR seems to be wrong, I trusted them with my case and they let me down. How can I talk to them right? Thank you for your help and for always valuable content!!!

    Unfortunately, it’s best not to discuss anything with HR. They are not the school counselor.

    It depends on each situation, but when it comes to your manager involving HR isn't a good idea. Especially if you don't have concrete and proven evidence against that person.
